[a]-Anellated carbazoles with antitumor activity: Synthesis and cytotoxicity

1996

The cycloadducts3,5, and7, readily available from methoxy-substituted 3-vinylindoles1 and2, were dehydrogenated withDDQ to the coplanar [a]-anellated carbazoles4,6, and8. Compound4a, also characterized by X-ray structural analysis, shows significant cytotoxicity against K562 und RXF393 human tumor cell lines.

Current Research on Medicinal Mushrooms in Italy

2019

Historical data and current research in Italy reveal the permanent interest of people and scientists toward the importance of fungi as functional food and medicine. This chapter reports the main studies on medicinal mushrooms carried out by Italian researchers on the antibacterial activity, the characterization of β-glucans content, antitumor activity, Alzheimer’s disease, characterization of bioactive compounds, antimicrobial activity, dietary supplementation, chemical contents, and animal health. Currently, in vitro experiments are prevalent with respect to clinical trials on human and animals.

ChemInform Abstract: Acetogenins from Annonaceae

2010

In 1982, Jolad et al. isolated uvaricin, a new antitumor agent, from the roots of Uvaria acuminata (Annonaceae), a bis-tetrahydrofuranoid fatty acid lactone (1) related to polyketides or acetogenins. However, it contained a number of original structural characteristics, particularly a linear acetogenin, a bis-tetrahydrofuran pattern flanked by hydroxyls and a terminal unsaturated lactone. Two years later, Dabrah and Sneden (2, 3 and Cortes et al. (4) described four new products presenting the same structural characteristics. Because these products formed a new class of natural compounds, and are only found in species belonging to the family of Annonaceae, they are commonly called acetogenin…

SKRINING FITOKIMIA, UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIMIKROBA DAN ANTITUMOR TUMBUHAN OBAT KABUPATEN MANOKWARI

2008

Pythochemistry screening and testing of antimicrobial and antitumor activities was carried out on 31 species of medicinal plants distributed around Manokwari Regency. All parts of the plants were collected and screened for the presence of alkaloids, saponins, and tannins; antimicrobial and antitumor activity. The number of positive tests obtained are 17 (55, 3%) for alkaloids, 6 (19, 4%) for saponins, and 26 (84, 7%) for tannins. Eleven species shown inhibition activities (antimicrobial) to Candida albicans, Staphyloccocus aureus, and Echericia colii while only seven species have antitumor activity, especially against tumor cell P-388.

ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of the New Ring System 6,8-Dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[3,4-h]quinazoline.

2009

Abstract A convenient synthesis of the pyrrolo[3,4- h ]quinazoline ring system is reported. Our synthetic approach consisted of the annelation of a pyrimidine ring to an isoindole moiety using tetrahydroisoindole-4-ones as building blocks. The antiproliferative activity of the new compounds was investigated and one of them showed antitumor activity against all the 59 tested cell lines at micromolar concentrations (1.46–18.4 μM).
