Supravital Uptake of Methylene Blue by Dendritic Cells within Stratified Squamous Epithelia: a Light and Electron Microscope Study
1996
Electron microscopic data on methylene blue staining of dendritic cells in the epithelia of the soft palate and skin of the mouse after supravital dye injection are presented. The ultra-structural details were compared with corresponding light microscopic findings. Methylene blue stained tissue was fixed by immersion in a paraformaldehyde-glutaraldehyde solution containing phosphomolybdic acid. The ensuing dye precipitate was stabilized by ammonium heptamolybdate. The light microscopic investigation revealed that selective staining of dendritic cells depended on the presence of ambient oxygen. In addition, delicate morphological characteristics, like spinous structures of the dendrites, wer…
Enantioselective addition of nitromethane to α-keto esters catalyzed by copper(ii)–iminopyridine complexes
2008
The copper complex of a chiral iminopyridine easily prepared from (R)-(-)-fenchone and picolylamine catalyzes the enantioselective Henry (nitroaldol) reaction between nitromethane and alpha-keto esters. Good yields and modest to good enantioselectivities are obtained for a wide range of alpha-keto esters, bearing aromatic, alkyl or alkenyl groups attached to the ketone carbonyl group.
Historia parafii pw. św. Michała Archanioła w Opolu-Półwsi w latach 1937–1958
2019
Uszkodzeniom uległ i kościół.
Verbi locativi in italiano come varianti di verbi supporto
2021
Data from: Plant – herbivorous beetle networks: molecular characterization of trophic ecology within a threatened steppic environment
2015
DNA barcoding facilitates many evolutionary and ecological studies, including the examination of the dietary diversity of herbivores. In this study, we present a survey of ecological associations between herbivorous beetles and host plants from seriously threatened European steppic grasslands. We determined host plants for the majority (65%) of steppic leaf beetles (55 species) and weevils (59) known from central Europe using two barcodes (trnL and rbcL) and two sequencing strategies (Sanger for mono/oligophagous species and Illumina for polyphagous taxa). To better understand the ecological associations between steppic beetles and their host plants, we tested the hypothesis that leaf beetl…
Science Signaling Podcast: 5 August 2014
2014
This Podcast features an interview with Juliane Mooz and Krishnaraj Rajalingam, authors of a Research Article that appears in the 5 August 2014 issue of Science Signaling , about the cellular functions of the kinase ARAF. RAF proteins are serine-threonine kinases that mediate signaling through the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, and aberrant RAF activity can transform normal cells into cancerous cells. There are three RAFs in mammals: ARAF, BRAF, and CRAF. The most studied of these is BRAF, mutations in which are associated with various cancers. Whereas the cellular functions of BRAF and CRAF have been extensively studied, not much is known about ARAF. Mooz et al . found th…
Dimerization of the kinase ARAF promotes MAPK pathway activation and cell migration.
2014
The RAF family of kinases mediates RAS signaling, and RAF inhibitors can be effective for treating tumors with BRAF V600E mutant protein. However, RAF inhibitors paradoxically accelerate metastasis in RAS -mutant tumors and become ineffective in BRAF V600E tumors because of reactivation of downstream mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling. We found that the RAF isoform ARAF has an obligatory role in promoting MAPK activity and cell migration in a cell type–dependent manner. Knocking down ARAF prevented the activation of MAPK kinase 1 (MEK1) and extracellular signal–regulated kinase 1 and 2 (ERK1/2) and decreased the number of protrusions from tumor cell spheroids in three-dimensi…
The LepR-mediated leptin transport across brain barriers controls food reward
2018
Objective Leptin is a key hormone in the control of appetite and body weight. Predominantly produced by white adipose tissue, it acts on the brain to inhibit homeostatic feeding and food reward. Leptin has free access to circumventricular organs, such as the median eminence, but entry into other brain centers is restricted by the blood–brain and blood–CSF barriers. So far, it is unknown for which of its central effects leptin has to penetrate brain barriers. In addition, the mechanisms mediating the transport across barriers are unclear although high expression in brain barriers suggests an important role of the leptin receptor (LepR). Methods We selectively deleted LepR in brain endothelia…
Occurrence of Spontaneous Cortical Spreading Depression Is Increased by Blood Constituents and Impairs Neurological Recovery after Subdural Hematoma …
2019
Acute subdural hemorrhage (ASDH) is common and associated with severe morbidity and mortality. To date, the role of spontaneous cortical spreading depression (sCSD) in exaggerating secondary injury after ASDH, is poorly understood. The present study contains two experimental groups: First, we investigated and characterized the occurrence of sCSD after subdural blood infusion (300 μL) via tissue impedance (IMP) measurement in a rat model. Second, we compared the occurrence and influence of sCSD on lesion growth and neurological deficit in the presence and absence of whole blood constituents. In the first experimental group, three IMP traits could be distinguished after ASDH: no sCSD, recurre…
