Epidural spinal abscesses.

Fifteen cases of peridural empyemas are reported. 12 patients reported with motor dysfunction of the lower extremities and pain radiating from the spine. In one case, localized pain of the spine was discovered and in two cases there were no signs of spinal or radiating pain. Treatment in all cases was laminectomy and systemic antibiotic administration. Microbiological analysis showed staphylococcus aureus in 11 cases. 9 patients recovered with no neurological defects, two had major improvement of the paresis, and one died. Three patients with paraplegia recovered from the primary infection.

[ES] Introducción y objetivos: La posturografía permite evaluar el control postural de un sujeto. En este estudio se presentan aquellos parámetros biomecánicos del sistema de posturografía empleado, que han resultado útiles para valorar funcionalmente los pacientes vestibulares de nuestra muestra. Material y métodos: De un total de 89 participantes, 59 eran sujetos sanos y 30 presentaban un trastorno vestibular periférico. Todos ellos realizaron un estudio posturográfico mediante el sistema NedSVE/IBV que combina pruebas estáticas (Romberg) y dinámicas (límites de estabilidad y control rítmico-direccional). Heterogeneous Firms, Globalisation and the Distance Puzzle

Despite the strong pace of globalisation, the distance effect on trade is persistent or even growing over time (Disdier and Head, 2008). To solve this distance puzzle, we use the recently developed gravity equation estimator from Helpman et al. (2008) (HMR henceforth). Using three different data sets, we find that the distance coefficient increases over time when ordinary least squares (OLS) is used, while the non-linear estimation of HMR leads to a decline in the distance coefficient over time. [EN] In this project, we intend to explore video as an evaluation tool with great potential in the foreign language classroom. The main objective is for the students, future teachers of French in secondary education, to use two different forms of evaluation to compare them with each other. Starting from the oral presentations of a didactic sequence for French, which are recorded on video, our students had to evaluate them using a rubric designed specifically for it. Topology testing of phylogenies using least squares methods

[Background] The least squares (LS) method for constructing confidence sets of trees is closely related to LS tree building methods, in which the goodness of fit of the distances measured on the tree (patristic distances) to the observed distances between taxa is the criterion used for selecting the best topology. The generalized LS (GLS) method for topology testing is often frustrated by the computational difficulties in calculating the covariance matrix and its inverse, which in practice requires approximations. The weighted LS (WLS) allows for a more efficient albeit approximate calculation of the test statistic by ignoring the covariances between the distances.

Resumen Caso clinico Varon de 21 anos con historia de exoftalmos izquierdo y diplopia de 2 semanas de evolucion. La resonancia magnetica mostro una lesion muy vascularizada etmoido-orbitaria con invasion de base del craneo anterior y extension orbitaria. La biopsia etmoidal confirmo un tejido fibrovascular compatible con angiofibroma. Discusion El angiofibroma nasofaringeo juvenil (ANJ) es un tumor benigno con caracteristicas locales de malignidad debido a su capacidad de invadir areas adyacentes.
