OE dweorg also occurs in a group of five charms and medical recipes, where it seems to designate an ailment, characterized by a strong and sudden onset of fever. Particularly, in the remedies contained in the Medicina de quadrupedibus and in the Peri didaxeon – both translations of Latin medical treatises – OE dweorg means ‘fever’. We investigated, with a series of field and laboratory observations, the possible effect of the starfish Marthasteria glacialis predation on the operational sex ratio (OSR), i.e. the number of sexually mature males divided by the total number of sexually mature adults of both sexes at any one time, of the edible sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus. Ar C hepatīta vīrusu inficēto cilvēku skaits pasaulē ir apmēram 170 miljoni. Pret HCV nav vakcīnas, tāpēc tiek veikti pētījumi, kas saistīti ar tās izstrādi. Darba mērķis bija iegūt HCV alternatīvā nolasīšanas rāmja proteīnus divās plazmīdu sistēmās, un optimizēt ekspresijas un attīrīšanas apstākļus augstas kvalitātes proteīnu iegūšanai. Darbā tika izmantoti dažāda garuma un genotipa ARFP un divas klonēšanas un ekspresijas plazmīdas ar atšķirīgu 6xHistag iezīmes novietojumu. Pēc indukcijas ar IPTG apstākļu optimizācijas augstākā ARFP ekspresija E. coli BL21(DE3) šūnās tika iegūta, inducējot 4h pie + 37°C un 6h pie + 30°C ar 0,4 mM IPTG. Introduction: Postmenopausal monozygotic twin pairs discordant for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) provide an advantageous study design controlling for genetic background for elucidating the relationships between aging, sex hormone levels, muscle strength, contractile capacity, and fatigability. Entrambi accomunati da un interesse scientifico-sentimentale per le più inconsistenti forme di vita naturale – il lichene e la farfalla – i due poeti si distinguono tuttavia per una diversa declinazione della loro passione: è sufficiente scorrere i sei inventari lichenologici redatti dal poeta ligure per accertarsi dell’impiego di un formulario tecnico privo di qualunque orpello estetizzante o astrattizzante, com’è possibile rinvenire ancora negli scritti gozzaniani.

Evolution on islands, and the often extreme phenotypic changes associated with it, has attracted much interest from evolutionary biologists. However, measuring the rate of change of a particular phenotypic trait of extinct animals can be challenging, due to the incompleteness of the fossil record. Here, we use combined molecular and fossil evidence to define the minimum and maximum rate of dwarfing in an extinct Mediterranean dwarf elephant from Puntali Cave (Sicily). Pro gradu -työssäni tarkastelen suomalaisia hakukone- ja flarfrunoja, joiden materiaali on lainattu toisten ihmisten kirjoittamilta internetsivuilta. Tutkimusaineistonani on suomalaisen hakukonerunouden merkittävimmät kokoelmat: Tytti Heikkisen Varjot astronauteista, Teemu Mannisen Lohikäärmeen poika sekä Harry Salmenniemen Texas, sakset. Olen myös haastatellut hakukonerunouden parissa työskenteleviä runoilijoita. Ensimmäinen tutkimuskysymys selvittää, minkälaisilta internetsivuilta runojen materiaali on peräisin.
