Isolated childhood growth hormone deficiency: a 30-year experience on final height and a new prediction model
2022
Purpose We aimed to evaluate the near-final height (nFHt) in a large cohort of pediatricpatients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and to elaborate a new predictive method of nFHt. Methods We recruited GHD patients diagnosed between 1987 and 2014 and followed-up until nFHt. To predict the values of nFHt, each predictor was run in a univariable spline. Results We enrolled 1051 patients. Pre-treatment height was -2.43 SDS, lower than parental height (THt) (-1.09 SDS, p < 0.001). The dose of recombinant human GH (rhGH) was 0.21mg/kg/week at start of treatment. nFHt was -1.08 SDS (height gain 1.27 SDS), higher than pre-treatment height (p < 0.001) and comparable to THt. 1.6% of the pat…
Characterization of impervious layers using scale models and an inverse method
2009
We describe a novel procedure that uses an inverse method to determine unknown parameters for impervious layers used in multilayer structures. The proposed model of the multilayer structure is limited to an ideal double plate separated by an unbonded, fibrous, sound-absorbing material. Experimental data were obtained by nearfield acoustic holography for the calculation of the transmission loss of various multilayer structures mounted in a window in a wooden box designed specifically for this purpose. We used the Trochidis and Kalaroutis forecast model of acoustic insulation for multilayer structures, which is based on a spatial Fourier transform. The experimental pressure and velocity data …
Depth of response to isatuximab, carfilzomib, lenalidomide, and dexamethasone (Isa-KRd) in front-line treatment of high-risk multiple myeloma: Interi…
2020
8508 Background: High-risk (HR) multiple myeloma (MM) still has a significant impaired prognostic outcome. Addition of CD38 monoclonal antibodies to standard-of-care regimens significantly improved response rates and depth of response in newly diagnosed (ND) and relapsed/refractory MM patients (pts). Here, we report the prespecified end of induction interim analysis (IA) of the investigator-initiated GMMG-CONCEPT trial (NCT03104842), evaluating the quadruplet regimen isatuximab plus carfilzomib, lenalidomide and dexamethasone (Isa-KRd) in HR NDMM pts. Methods: 153 pts with HR NDMM are planned to be included into the trial. HR MM is defined by the presence of del17p or t(4;14) or t(14;16) o…
Physical fitness, hormonal, and immunological responses during prolonged military field training
2018
Physical fitness is crucial to warfighters’ performance in the battlefield. Previous studies have shown negative changes in their hormonal and neuromuscular responses induced by military field training (MFT). The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in hormonal and immunological values and body composition during a prolonged MFT and to find out how warfighters’ physical condition influences these changes. Conscripts (n = 49, age 20 1 years, height 179 9 cm, body mass 73.8 7.8 kg, fat 12.6 3.7% and BMI 23 kg/m²) were measured before, during, after MFT, and after a 4-day recovery period. Serum insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-a), interleuk…
Starfish and Xenopus oocyte maturation
2007
Treatment with heavy metals, such as nickel, lead or cadmium, elicits different cellular stress responses according to the metal used and the length of treatment. In Paracentrotus lividus embryos the inducible forms of HSP70 (HSP70/72) are different in molecular mass from the constitutively expressed HSP75, and they can be used as markers of cellular stress. Even a short treatment with each metal induces the synthesis of HSP70/72 which remain stable for at least 20h and differ little in their isoelectric points. Continuous treatment from fertilization with nickel or lead produces late irregular pluteus embryos, with peak HSP70/72 synthesis at blastula followed by the arrest of synthesis by …
Normatīvu patiesību iespējamības problēma: D. Parfita risinājums
2019
WNT Signaling Perturbations Underlie the Genetic Heterogeneity of Robinow Syndrome
2018
International audience; Locus heterogeneity characterizes a variety of skeletal dysplasias often due to interacting or overlapping signaling pathways. Robinow syndrome is a skeletal disorder historically refractory to molecular diagnosis, potentially stemming from substantial genetic heterogeneity. All current known pathogenic variants reside in genes within the noncanonical Wnt signaling pathway including ROR2, WNT5A, and more recently, DVL1 and DVL3. However, ∼70% of autosomal-dominant Robinow syndrome cases remain molecularly unsolved. To investigate this missing heritability, we recruited 21 families with at least one family member clinically diagnosed with Robinow or Robinow-like pheno…

Gender-specific soluble α-klotho levels as marker of GH deficiency in children: a case-control study.
2022
Abstract Purpose To evaluate circulating soluble α-klotho (sαKL) levels in GHD children before and after 12 months of GH treatment (GHT). Methods Auxological and basal metabolic parameters, oral glucose tolerance test for glucose and insulin levels, insulin sensitivity indices and klotho levels were evaluated before and after 12 months of follow-up in 58 GHD children and 56 healthy controls. Results At baseline, GHD children showed significantly lower growth velocity standard deviation score (SDS) (p < 0.001), bone/chronological age ratio (p < 0.001), GH peak and area under the curve (AUC) after arginine test (ARG) (both p < 0.001) and glucagon stimulation test (GST) (p < 0.001 …
Effect of Prolonged Military Field Training on Neuromuscular and Hormonal Responses and Shooting Performance in Warfighters
2018
Introduction: Previous studies have shown that military field training (MFT) has effects on warfighters’ hormonal responses, neuromuscular performance, and shooting accuracy. The aim of the present study was to investigate the changes in body composition, upper and lower body strength, serum hormone concentrations of testosterone (TES) and cortisol (COR), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and shooting accuracy during prolonged MFT. Methods: Serum hormone concentrations, isometric strength of the upper and lower extremities, and shooting performance were measured four times during the study: before MFT (PRE), after 12 d (MID), at the end of MFT (PO…
