Mangleticornia (Amaranthaceae: Salicornioideae) — a new sister for Salicornia from the Pacific coast of South America

Mangleticornia ecuadorensis is a newly recognized monotypic genus from SW Ecuador and adjacent N Peru, where it had previously been identified as Salicornia fruticosa (Arthrocnemum fruticosum) or S. peruviana. It occurs on the coast adjacent to or in Equatorial-Pacific mangroves. Molecular phylogenetic evidence determines that this genus is distinct from and sister to Salicornia sensu lato, and is supported by morphological evidence. POSTMATING ISOLATION ANALYSIS IN FOUNDER-FLUSH EXPERIMENTAL POPULATIONS OF DROSOPHILA PSEUDOOBSCURA.

In this paper, we report a detailed analysis intended to detect postmating barriers in experimental populations of Drosophila pseudoobscura obtained through nine founderflush cycles. The number of offspring produced was determined in three consecutive generations of hybridization. It is found that the evolution of premating barriers, as shown by two of these populations, is not necessarily accompanied by the evolution of postmating ones. Under the founder-flush model of speciation proposed by Carson (1971), the first step in the speciation process is usually thought to be an incidental genetic change through founder effect affecting mating behavior so that sexual premating isolation evolves…

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are an important element of the plant microbiome as they establish an endosymbiotic relationship with the roots of most plant species. This association enhances access to nutrients and water for plants, and provides the fungus with plant-derived organic carbon. Turtles, a speciose group consisting of more than 300 species, demonstrate karyotypes with diploid chromosome numbers ranging from 2n = 26 to 2n = 68. However, cytogenetic analyses have been conducted only to 1/3rd of the turtle species, often limited to conventional staining methods. Updated checklist of macromycetes of Tunisia

A preliminary checklist of macromycetes has been previously published with reference to six governorates located in northern Tunisia. This paper provides an updated version of the inventory of macromycetes in Tunisia, which includes 268 species, of which seven are worldwide recognized as rare. The investigation was carried out from September 2015 to December 2018 in 13 governorates of the Tunisian territory. This updated checklist reports 145 new national species records (139 basidiomycetes and six ascomycetes) belonging to 57 genera and 13 families. Data related to distribution, ecology and preferential hosts of each recorded taxon are also provided.

Genetic rescue, an increase in population growth owing to the infusion of new alleles, can aid the persistence of small populations, but its use as a management tool is limited by a lack of empirical data geared towards predicting effects of gene flow on local adaptation and demography. Experimental translocations provide an ideal opportunity to monitor the demographic consequences of gene flow. Poecilogonous species show variation in developmental mode, with larvae that differ both morphologically and ecologically. The spionid polychaete Pygospio elegans shows variation in developmental mode not only between populations, but also seasonally within populations. We investigated the consequences of this developmental polymorphism on the spatial and seasonal genetic structure of P. elegans at four sites in the Danish Isefjord‐Roskilde‐Fjord estuary at six time points, from March 2014 until February 2015. In vitro bioactive properties of phlorotannins recovered from hydrothermal treatment of Sargassum muticum

Abstract The present work addresses the potential of different adsorbents for the recovery of the phlorotannin fraction present in the liquid phase from the autohydrolysis of Sargassum muticum. Operating with the extract generated during autohydrolysis of alginate exhausted algae, the kinetics followed pseudo-second order and the equilibrium corresponded to Freundlich model. In batch configuration, up to 70% phlorotannins were adsorbed and up to 30% were desorbed with ethanolic solutions. Comparable performance was observed with the autohydrolysis extracts from the whole algae.
