Economics of climate change : sensitivity analysis of social cost of carbon

2016

Social cost of carbon (SCC) is the key concept in the economics of climate change. It measures the economic cost of climate impacts. SCC has influence on how beneficial it is to prevent climate change: if the value of SCC increases, investments to low-carbon technology become more attractive and profitable. This paper examines the sensitivity of two important assumptions that affect to SCC: the choice of a discount rate and time horizon. Using the integrated assessment model, we calculate SCC estimates with multiple discount rates and various time horizon lengths. Our results show that discount rate and time horizon have great effect on SCC. For example, the SCC estimates are drastically re…

2008

This study analyzes the relationship between neighborhood social disorder, and attitudes toward partner vio- lence against women among immigrants. Relationships between perceived neighborhood disorder and the following sets of attitudes toward partner violence against women were explored: perceived severity of incidents, the acceptability of partner violence, and victim-blaming attitudes. Residents perceiving high levels of neighborhood social disorder were more exposed to incidents of partner vio- lence against women, as they reported knowing more victims. Results showed that high levels of perceived neighb…

Nutrition, public health politics and dietary tools

2020

Abstract In order to ensure a good status of health through the diet, it is necessary to follow nutritional objectives that have been established according to the nutritional policies of each country. However, nutritional objectives will differ according to the specific population group and it would be necessary to have tools to estimate the nutritional status, anthropometrics, biochemical parameters, clinical examination, and dietary assessment being the main tools that are used. Dietary assessment tools are related to an appraisal of food and nutrient consumption as well as the dietary pattern of particular groups of people during a special period. Therefore this chapter aims to discuss t…

Child personality characteristics and selection into long-term unemployment in Finnish and Swedish longitudinal samples

2003

The main aim of the present study was to test a model of selection into long-term unemployment obtained for a sample of 36-year-old Finns (Kokko, Pulkkinen, & Puustinen, 2000) to see whether it similarly explained long-term unemployment among 26- to 27-year-old Finns and Swedes. The participants were drawn from two ongoing longitudinal studies: the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (conducted in Finland) and the Individual Development and Adaptation study (conducted in Sweden). At both ages, that is 36 and 26–27, low education was related to long-term unemployment, and explained by personality characteristics in middle childhood, such as low self-contro…

Perceived paternal and maternal acceptance and children's outcomes in Colombia

2007

The relationship between perceived paternal and maternal acceptance and children's adjustment was analyzed. Drivers and barriers to online airline ticket purchasing

2009

Although online sales of airline tickets are growing, many travellers are still reluctant to use the web as a purchase channel. Given the cost advantages of online sales for airlines, it is useful for them to know the main drivers and barriers affecting the use of the Internet to purchase tickets. This study analyses the influence of risk, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use on the airline ticket online purchase intention. The results of a survey show that perceived purchase risk and perceived usefulness exercise a direct influence on airline ticket purchasing intentions, while perceived ease of use has an indirect influence through perceived usefulness. Psychological risk, perfo…
