Perspectives on Relevance : the Relevance Test in the Constructive Research Approach

2017

Abstract Interventionist research (IVR), such as the constructive research approach (CRA), has been suggested as a method to improve the relevance of management accounting (MA) research. Although literature identifies several perspectives on relevance, the current assessment of CRA focuses on practical relevance. Moreover, an overreliance on pragmatism in assessing CRA research in the form of CRA market tests has been criticized. This article analyses the challenges inherent in conducting and assessing CRA research, both conceptually and with a CRA case example. In order to overcome these possible CRA challenges, we suggest analyzing CRA relevance from multiple perspectives. The perspective…

Leaders’ Gender, Perceived Abusive Supervision and Health

2018

Purpose: We investigated the role of gender in abusive leadership practices, along with the effects of abusive leadership on employee health. We tested two hypotheses regarding the relationship between abusive leadership practices and subordinates’ health outcomes. Design: At two points of measurement, 663 participants in Germany rated their 158 direct team leaders on abusive supervision and stated their own levels of emotional exhaustion and somatic stress. To test our hypotheses, we used a mixed model approach. Findings: The results show no gender differences between the ratings for female and male leaders regarding abusive supervision but do confirm that the leaders’ gender did play a ro…

Physicians’ motivations to use mobile health monitoring:a cross-country comparison

2016

While mobile device receives increasing attention as a practical tool to remotely check patients’ health, little research has shed light on physicians’ acceptance of this information and communication technology. This study attempts to fill this research gap by examining how Japanese and Spanish physicians perceive a series of factors associated with mobile diabetes monitoring acceptance, and whether any differences exist in these perceptions between the countries due to different levels of physician scarcity, which is operationalised as the number of physicians available per 10,000 population. The hypotheses were tested by empirical surveys in Japan and Spain. In total, 471 and 497 usable …
