Organo-Clay Nanomaterials Based on Halloysite and Cyclodextrin as Carriers for Polyphenolic Compounds

Hybrid material based on halloysite covalently linked to a hyper-reticulated cyclodextrin network was investigated as a potential carrier for polyphenolic compounds. The absorption ability of the hybrid system was studied in different pH conditions as well as the kinetic release of curcumin, chosen as a drug model. A preliminary study was performed to assess the antioxidant capacity of the obtained carrier. Nanofabrication on 2D and 3D Topography via Positive‐Tone Direct‐Write Laser Lithography

Direct laser writing (DLW) lithography using two‐photon absorption is a powerful technique mostly used for fabrication of complex structures in micro‐ and nanoscale, by photopolymerizing a negative‐tone resist. In contrast, in this study it is demonstrated that DLW is also well suited for fabricating nano‐ to microscale metallic structures using lift‐off and a positive‐tone photoresist. It is shown first that versatile, fast and large area fabrication is possible on flat two‐dimensional insulating substrates, and an expression for how the line width varies with the scanning speed is derived, with excellent agreement with the experiments. A Comparative Study of Top-Down and Bottom-Up Carbon Nanodots and Their Interaction with Mercury Ions

We report a study of carbon dots produced via bottom-up and top-down routes, carried out through a multi-technique approach based on steady-state fluorescence and absorption, time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Our study focuses on a side-to-side comparison of the fundamental structural and optical properties of the two families of fluorescent nanoparticles, and on their interaction pathways with mercury ions, which we use as a probe of surface emissive chromophores. Structural organization of silanol and silicon hydride groups in the amorphous silicon dioxide network

We present a study on the effects of an isothermal annealing treatment on a-SiO 2 having a significant content of silanol hydride groups (Si-H). We examined the properties of the IR absorption bands of silanol (Si-OH) and silicon hydride groups as a function of the duration of the thermal treatment. We showed that the Si-OH and Si-H groups contents decrease in a linearly correlated way. The annealing dynamics suggest that the two species are close to each other in the amorphous network. Poor optical stability of molecular dyes when used as absorbers in water-based tissue-simulating phantoms

Biomedical optical systems and models can be easily validated by the use of tissue-simulating phantoms. They can consist of water-based turbid media which often include inks (India ink and molecular dyes) as absorbers. Optical stability of commonly exploited inks under the influence of light, pH changes and the addition of TiO2 and surfactant, was studied. We found that the exposure to ultraviolet and visible light can crucially affect the absorption properties of molecular dyes. On average, absorption peaks decreased by 47.3% in 150 exposure hours. Analysis of human skin hyper-spectral images by non-negative matrix factorization

International audience; This article presents the use of Non-negative Matrix Factorization, a blind source separation algorithm, for the decomposition of human skin absorption spectra in its main pigments: melanin and hemoglobin. The evaluated spectra come from a Hyper-Spectral Image, which is the result of the processing of a Multi-Spectral Image by a neural network-based algorithm. The implemented source separation algorithm is based on a multiplicative coeffi cient upload. The goal is to represent a given spectrum as the weighted sum of two spectral components. Holographic properties of azobenzene oligomers with differently bonded chromophore groups

Holographic properties of two types (I and II, specified in the text) of azobenzene oligomers (ABO) have been experimentally studied in the spectral region of low absorption at 633 nm. In the case of type I ABO the chromophore groups were covalently bonded to either tolyl-polyurethane or hexamethylene-polyurethane matrix. In the case of type II ABO azobenzene chromophores were dispersed in polystyrene matrix, and their concentration was varied from 0.005 to 0.200 mol/l. Samples were in the form of 10 µm thick films. Large atomic disorder in nanostructured LaNi5 alloys: A la L3-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure study

Abstract Local structure of the nanostructured LaNi 5 alloys, prepared by ball-milling, has been studied using La L 3 -edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. The near-neighbor distances tend to decrease with the ball-milling, and the mean square relative displacements (MSRD) show substantial increase suggesting an increased atomic disorder. High temperature annealing helps in partial recovery of atomic order in the ball-milled samples for milling times upto 20 h, however, the long-time ball-milled samples seems to gain only a local random order. Fast determination of fish mineral profile. Application to Vietnamese panga fish

A methodology, based on inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry after microwave-assisted digestion with HNO3/H2O2, was developed to determine the mineral profile of panga fish samples imported from Vietnam. A total of 42 essential and toxic elements were studied in seven samples taken from the local market. Preliminary studies were focused on selecting the best wavelength and the required dilution of samples in order to provide the highest sensitivity to maximize the number of analytes to be determined without spectral or matrix interferences.
