Arc crossing minimization in graphs with GRASP
2001
Graphs are commonly used to represent information in many fields of science and engineering. Automatic drawing tools generate comprehensible graphs from data, taking into account a variety of properties, enabling users to see important relationships in the data. The goal of limiting the number of arc crossings is a well-admitted criterion for a good drawing. In this paper, we present a Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure (GRASP) for the problem of minimizing arc crossings in graphs. Computational experiments with 200 graphs with up to 350 vertices are presented to assess the merit of the method. We show that simple heuristics are very fast but result in inferior solutions, while hig…

Simple method for limiting delay of optimized interleavers for turbo-codes
2000
An iterative interleaver growth algorithm is extended to allow the delay and required memory of designed interleavers to be halved with negligible performance loss. The original algorithm is efficient for two-component parallel concatenated turbo-codes with given constituent encoders that are optimum with regard to a cost function satisfying some mild conditions. However, it is only actually optimum if the selected set of patterns is representative of low-weight turbo-codewords. The new interleaver uses all terminating error patterns having an input weight not greater than a fixed IWX and single-coder output weight not greater than WX is proposed.
Hessian PDF reweighting meets the Bayesian methods
2014
We discuss the Hessian PDF reweighting - a technique intended to estimate the effects that new measurements have on a set of PDFs. The method stems straightforwardly from considering new data in a usual $\chi^2$-fit and it naturally incorporates also non-zero values for the tolerance, $\Delta\chi^2>1$. In comparison to the contemporary Bayesian reweighting techniques, there is no need to generate large ensembles of PDF Monte-Carlo replicas, and the observables need to be evaluated only with the central and the error sets of the original PDFs. In spite of the apparently rather different methodologies, we find that the Hessian and the Bayesian techniques are actually equivalent if the $\Delta…
Simple differential equations for Feynman integrals associated to elliptic curves
2019
The $\varepsilon$-form of a system of differential equations for Feynman integrals has led to tremendeous progress in our abilities to compute Feynman integrals, as long as they fall into the class of multiple polylogarithms. It is therefore of current interest, if these methods extend beyond the case of multiple polylogarithms. In this talk I discuss Feynman integrals, which are associated to elliptic curves and their differential equations. I show for non-trivial examples how the system of differential equations can be brought into an $\varepsilon$-form. Single-scale and multi-scale cases are discussed.
Caustics for spherical waves
2016
We study the development of caustics in shift-symmetric scalar field theories by focusing on simple waves with an $SO(p)$-symmetry in an arbitrary number of space dimensions. We show that the pure Galileon, the DBI-Galileon, and the extreme-relativistic Galileon naturally emerge as the unique set of caustic-free theories, highlighting a link between the caustic-free condition for simple $SO(p)$-waves and the existence of either a global Galilean symmetry or a global (extreme-)relativistic Galilean symmetry.
Topics on n-ary algebras
2011
We describe the basic properties of two n-ary algebras, the Generalized Lie Algebras (GLAs) and, particularly, the Filippov (or n-Lie) algebras (FAs), and comment on their n-ary Poisson counterparts, the Generalized Poisson (GP) and Nambu-Poisson (N-P) structures. We describe the Filippov algebra cohomology relevant for the central extensions and infinitesimal deformations of FAs. It is seen that semisimple FAs do not admit central extensions and, moreover, that they are rigid. This extends the familiar Whitehead's lemma to all $n\geq 2$ FAs, n=2 being the standard Lie algebra case. When the n-bracket of the FAs is no longer required to be fully skewsymmetric one is led to the n-Leibniz (or…
The Schouten - Nijenhuis bracket, cohomology and generalized Poisson structures
1996
Newly introduced generalized Poisson structures based on suitable skew-symmetric contravariant tensors of even order are discussed in terms of the Schouten-Nijenhuis bracket. The associated `Jacobi identities' are expressed as conditions on these tensors, the cohomological contents of which is given. In particular, we determine the linear generalized Poisson structures which can be constructed on the dual spaces of simple Lie algebras.
Causal representation of multi-loop Feynman integrands within the loop-tree duality
2021
The numerical evaluation of multi-loop scattering amplitudes in the Feynman representation usually requires to deal with both physical (causal) and unphysical (non-causal) singularities. The loop-tree duality (LTD) offers a powerful framework to easily characterise and distinguish these two types of singularities, and then simplify analytically the underling expressions. In this paper, we work explicitly on the dual representation of multi-loop Feynman integrals generated from three parent topologies, which we refer to as Maximal, Next-to-Maximal and Next-to-Next-to-Maximal loop topologies. In particular, we aim at expressing these dual contributions, independently of the number of loops an…
A comment on the relationship between differential and dimensional renormalization
1992
We show that there is a very simple relationship between differential and dimensional renormalization of low-order Feynman graphs in renormalizable massless quantum field theories. The beauty of the differential approach is that it achieves the same finite results as dimensional renormalization without the need to modify the space time dimension.
