The paper presents a study focuses on the impact of various types of child-care on academic acquisitions observed at the end of kindergarten. Even if children cared for by their own mother do obtain poorer scores, the effect of a specific type of care, other things being equal, proves nearly equal to zero. But some more precise effects (of one type of care on a specific performance), and interaction effects (with factors such as sex difference) are observed too. It would be interesting for research to investigate more throroughly the quality of various types of care.

International audience; The length of summer holidays is often seen as having negative consequences on pupuls' learning and knowledge. The result of a research study carried out in a Côte d'Or secondary school bring a more qualified view. These results go against popular opinion which holds that school holidays are too long and cause pupils to forget things learnt during the previous school year. The impact of musical activities on learning achievements at the end of grade 1. When comparing two groups of pupils, one having benefited from a specific music program before entering grade 1 (2 or 4 hours per week at the least preprimary grade) and the other not, one finds out that this experimentation had a lasting positive impact on learning achievements. The Importance of Ability Grouping in French 'Collèges' and Its Impact upon Pupils'academic Achievement

International audience; This paper aims at assessing the prevalence and learning consequences of ability grouping in French lower secondary schools (collèges). The paper shows that ability grouping is in fact relatively widespread in France and has a strong local connotation. In terms of pupil learning, the paper stresses that students tend to perform all the more better the better the class they attend. However an heterogeneous context proves to be more favourable (for low achievers, an homogeneous class is the worst case). The results also stress the existence of a potential conflict of interest between the policy-maker and the actors of the system.

Cette communication porte sur le lien entre le déclassement et le surclassement sur le marché du travail et les compétences de base qu'ont pu acquérir les individus au cours de leurs parcours scolaire et professionnel.
