Influence of bed roughness on flow and turbulence structure around a partially-buried, isolated freshwater mussel

The present study uses eddy-resolving numerical simulations to investigate how bed roughness affects flow and turbulence structure around an isolated, partially-buried mussel (Unio elongatulus) aligned with the incoming flow. The rough-bed simulations resolve the flow past the exposed part of a gravel bed, whose surface is obtained from a laboratory experiment that also provides some additional data for validation of the numerical model. The aim of the present review is to investigate the main field-based tests, used alone or included in sport or fitness batteries, for the assessment of health- and skill-related physical fitness components in adolescents. Different scientific databases were searched through using the selected key words related to physical fitness and its components for adolescence. Fizisko aktivitāšu saistība ar uztverto stresu

Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot fizisko aktivitāšu saistību ar uztverto stresu. Pētījumā piedalījās 265 respondenti, no tiem 57 (21,5%) vīrieši un 208 (78,5%) sievietes, vecumā no 16 līdz 74 gadiem (M = 29,66, SD = 12,43). Uztvertā stresa mērīšanai tika izmantota Uztvertā stresa skala (Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Cohen, Kamarck & Memelstein, 1983, aptauju latviešu valodā adaptējusi Ieva Stokenberga, 2008) un fiziskās aktivitāšu mērīšanai tika izmantota Fiziskās aktivitātes līmeņa aptauja un pašnovērtējums (Judzika, 2018). Pētījuma rezultāti neparādīja statistiski nozīmīgas saistības starp fiziskām aktivitātēm un uztverto stresu.

Oxidative stress may lead to a number of diseases such as atherosclerosis, nephrotoxicity, liver cirrhosis, cancers, diabetes, and Alzheimer disease. Medicinal plants are an important source of antioxidants. Therefore, the antioxidant potential of Cetraria islandica was evaluated in this work. The coarse powder of leaf of Cetraria islandica was extracted in Soxhlet apparatus, with ethanol (90%) and ethanolic extract of Cetraria islandica (EECI) was further processed for phytochemical screening, total phenol content, total flavonoid content, and various in vitro antioxidant assays. Drug resistant focal epilepsy can be treated by resecting the epileptic focus requiring a precise focus localisation using stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) probes. As commercial SEEG probes offer only a limited spatial resolution, probes of higher channel count and design freedom enabling the incorporation of macro and microelectrodes would help increasing spatial resolution and thus open new perspectives for investigating mechanisms underlying focal epilepsy and its treatment. The Influence of Acetylcholine and Choline on the Incorporation of Phosphate into Phospholipids of Etiolated Bean Hypocotyl Hooks

Summary Acetylcholine influenced the radiolabelling of phospholipids in vivo in etiolated hypocotyl tissue of dwarf beans in darkness. Under aerobic conditions the specific activity of the phospholipids was decreased and under anaerobic conditions increased. The biosynthesis of phospholipids was strongly increased by the bivalent cations calcium and manganese and decreased by 2,4-dinitrophenol, anaerobiosis, atropine and ascorbic acid. Magnesium stimulated the uptake of the radioactive phosphate but not the specific activity of the phospholipids. The results are discussed in comparison with the «phospholipid-effect» of acetylcholine in animal tissues.

In recent years, agricultural and industrial residues have attracted a lot of interest in the recovery of phytochemicals used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. In this paper, a study on the recovery of phenol compounds from Lycium spp. leaves is presented. Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) have been used with alcoholic and hydroalcoholic solvents.
