Formation of dibutyl carbonate and butylcarbamate via CO2 insertion in titanium(IV) butoxide and reaction with n-butylamine

2016

Abstract The species resulting from insertion of 12CO2 and 13CO2 into titanium(IV) butoxide is for the first time fully characterized by means of infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Results show formation of Ti-monobutylcarbonate, that easily undergoes nucleophilic attack by an aliphatic amine. The hydrolysis of the resulting species produces butylcarbamate and dibutylcarbonate as the only main products. Characterization results of the carbonate-like adduct, along with its reactivity with amine molecules open the route to new ways of CO2 utilization as building block for valuable organic compounds.

Half-sandwich complexes of molybdenum-(III), -(IV) and -(V) with P–O and P–N bifunctional ligands Ph2PCH2X (X = 2-oxazolinyl, or C(O)NPh2)

2000

International audience; The reaction of the ligands Ph2PCH2X (X = 2-oxazolinyl, I; or C(O)NPh2, II) with the half-sandwich molybdenum(III) precursors [Mo(η-C5R5)(μ-Cl)2]2 (R = H or Me) has been investigated. Ligand I reacts with both complexes to form the corresponding adducts [Mo(η-C5R5)Cl2(Ph2PCH2C3H4NO)] (R = H, 1; or Me, 2). The reaction between I and [MoCp*Cl4] (Cp* = η-C5Me5) affords [MoCp*Cl4(Ph2PCH2C3H4NO-κ1P)] as a kinetic isomer, which then transforms quantitatively to [MoCp*Cl3(Ph2PCH2C3H4NO-κ2P,N)]+Cl−, 3. Ligand II reacts with [MoCp(μ-Cl)2]2 (Cp = η-C5H5) to afford the adduct [CpMoCl2{Ph2PCH2C(O)NPh2-κ2P,O}], 4, as an equilibrium mixture of two isomers. Longer reaction times in…

Reversible O–H bond activation by an intramolecular frustrated Lewis pair

2019

The interactions of the O-H bonds in alcohols, water and phenol with dimethylxanthene-derived frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) have been probed. Within the constraints of this backbone framework, the preference for adduct formation or O-H bond cleavage to give the corresponding zwitterion is largely determined by pKa considerations. In the case of the PPh2/B(C6F5)2 system and p-tBuC6H4OH, an equilibrium is established between the two isomeric forms which allows the thermodynamic parameters associated with zwitterion formation via O-H bond cleavage to be probed.

Oxygen Transfer from Trimethylamine N ‐Oxide to Cu I Complexes Supported by Pentanitrogen Ligands

2020

[N,N-bis(1-methyl-2-benzimidazolyl)methyl-N-(bis-2-pyridylmethyl)amine] (L1) and [N,N-bis(2-quinolylmethyl)-N-bis(2-pyridyl)methylamine] (L2) were employed to prepare CuII and CuI complexes for spectroscopic and structural characterization. [L1CuII(H2O)](NO3)2 and [L2CuII(NO3)]NO3 have Jahn–Teller distorted octahedral geometries and give rise to isotropic EPR spectra in frozen solution. [L1CuI(CH3CN)]OTf and [L2CuI(CH3CN)]OTf have distorted trigonal bipyramidal and tetrahedral solid-state structures, respectively. The N-donors display labile behavior in solution, based on variable-temperature 1H NMR studies. Addition of trimethylamine N-oxide (Me3NO) to solutions of [L1CuI(CH3CN)]OTf and [L…

Influence of the solvent and R groups on the structure of (carboranyl)R2PI2 compounds in solution. Crystal structure of the first iodophosphonium sal…

2008

The influence of the electron-donor or electron-acceptor capacity of the R groups (R = (i)Pr, Ph, Et) and the solvent on the molecular geometry in solution of adducts of carboranylphosphanes [(carboranyl)(i)Pr2P, (carboranyl)Ph2P and (carboranyl)Et2P] with I2 in 1 : 1 ratios, has been studied in detail by 31P{1H} and 11B{1H} NMR spectroscopies. The more electron-accepting Ph groups make the (carboranyl)Ph2P less nucleophilic, thus stabilizing the I2 encapsulated neutral biscarboranylphosphane-diiodine adducts in solution, such as (carboranyl)Ph2PI-IPPh2(carboranyl), generating P---I-I---P motifs. Even in a polar solvent, such as EtOH, the arrangement is preserved. The expected basicity of t…

Modulating the DNA cleavage ability of copper(II) Schiff bases through ternary complex formation

2018

Copper(II) complexes with the potentially tridentate Schiff bases N-[(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]-N′-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine (H2L1) and N-[(2-hydroxynaphthanyl)methylidene]-N′-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine (H2L2) have been synthesized by electrochemical oxidation of the metal in an electrochemical cell containing a solution of the corresponding ligand in acetonitrile. Adducts of these compounds with 2,2′-bipyridine (2,2′-bpy), 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) were also obtained. The complexes have been characterized by microanalysis, mass spectrometry, EPR, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopies, as well as DFT calculations. The ligand H2L1 and the compounds [CuL1(H2O)]·…

Mono-DMSO ligated cobalt nitrophenylcorroles: electrochemical and spectral characterization

2018

Four mono-DMSO ligated cobalt corroles with one or three meso-nitrophenyl substituents on the macrocycle were synthesized and investigated as to their electrochemical and spectroscopic properties in CH2Cl2 and DMSO. Comparisons are made between redox reactions of the five-coordinate DMSO adducts in the current study and earlier examined five- and six-coordinate cobalt corroles with pyridine axial ligands which were characterized in a variety of nonaqueous electrochemical solvents. The binding of carbon monoxide (CO) is also investigated.

Theoretical investigation of the spin crossover transition states of the addition of methane to a series of Group 6 metallocenes using minimum energy…

2016

International audience; Density functional calculations are reported on the addition of methane to Group 6 metallocenes, M(η-C5H5)2 (M), M(CH2(η-C5H4)2) (a-M) and M(η-C5Me5)2 (M*) where M = Mo and W. Full geometry optimisations were carried out on the singlet and triplet 16 electron complexes, 1[M] and 3[M], the η2-methane complexes, 1[M(η2-CH4)], and the hydridomethyl adducts, 1[M(CH3)(H)]. The triplet state for [M] was found to be more stable for all six metallocenes, the difference being least in the case of the ansa-bridged system. Formation of the hydridomethyl complexes was exoenergetic for all tungsten systems and for a-Mo, the other two Mo systems being endoenergetic. Minumum energy…

The duplivincular ligament of recent Pinna Nobilis L., 1758: further evidence for pterineid ancestry of the Pinnoidea

2008

A correct interpretation of ligament ontogeny and structure is essential for establishing phylogenetic relationships among higher taxa in the bivalve superorder Pteriomorphia. Recent research on pteriomorphian ligaments has focused on understanding ligament morphospace (Thomas et al., 2000; Ubukata, 2003) and evolutionary pathways. In this regard, studies of the transition from larval to post-larval and adult ligaments (Malchus, 2004) have been especially fruitful. Members of the pteriomorphian superfamily Pinnoidea live with their tapered anterior end buried to varying degrees in sediment. The fan shell Pinna may be buried up to one third of its length (Templado, 2004) (Fig. 1), and Atrina…
