Organoelement derivatives of steroids: synthesis and structural characterization of diorganotin chloride adducts of hormones
1986
Abstract Ten new diorganotin dichloride adducts of hormones of the type R 2 SnCl 2 ·2L [where R = Me, Et, n-Bu, Oct and Ph; L = 4-androsten-17s-ol-3-one ( A ); 5-androsten-3s-ol-17-one ( B ); 4-androsten-17α- methyl-17s-ol-3-one ( C ) and 3,17-dihydroxy-5- pregnene-20-one ( D )] have been prepared and characterized at 297 K and 223 K. Spectroscopic measurements (IR; Raman; 1 H, 13 C, 119 Sn NMR) suggest the dissociation or fast ligand exchange in solution at 297 K. Hexa-coordinated adducts with bonding through carbonyl oxygen and trans -R groups in octahedral geometry are formulated at 223 K.

A series of 1:1 adducts of the type [(L)R(n)SnX(4-n)] . zH(2)O (L = bis(4-methylpyrazol-1-yl)methane (L(4)), bis(3,4,5-trimethylpyrazol-1-yl)methane (L(T)), 1,2-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)ethane (L(A)) or 1,2-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)ethane (L(B)); R = Me, Et, Bu or Ph; X = I, Br or Cl; n = 0, 1 or 2; z = 1, 1.5 or 2), and the likely polynuclear [(L(A))(5)(SnCl4)(4)] . (H2O)(5) and [(L(B))(2)(SnCl4)(3)] . 1/2[Et(2)O] have been characterized in the solid state and in solution by analyses, spectral (IR, Mossbauer, and H-1, C-13 and Sn-119 NMR) data and conductivity measurements. When L(T) reacts with SnCl4, cleavage of a carbon (sp(3))-nitrogen bond was observed and the adduct [(3,4,5-trimethylpyra…
Synthesis and electrochemical study of a new doubly-metallated compound with the ferrocene-labelled phosphine PPh2(C5H4)Fe(C5H5)
1993
Abstract Direct reaction of the metalled compound Rh 2 (μ 2 -O 2 CCH 3 ) 3 [μ 2 -(C 6 H 4 ) PPh 2 ]·(H 2 O) 2 with PPh 2 Fc [Fc = (C 5 H 4 )Fe(C 5 H 5 )] in chloroform solution yields the corresponding mono-adduct Rh 2 (O 2 CCH 3 ) 3 [(C 6 H 4 )PPh 2 ]·(PPh 2 Fc) ( 1 ), which has been characterized by 31 P NMR spectroscopy. Photochemical irradiation of 1 in chloroform gives the compound Rh 2 (μ-O 2 CCH 3 ) 2 (η 2 -O 2 CCH 3 )[μ 2 -(C 6 H 4 )PPh 2 ][PPh 2 Fc]·(H 2 O) ( 2 ) in practically quantitative yield. Compound 2 , by thermal treatment in chloroform solution, yields cleanly the doubly-metallated compound Rh 2 (μ 2 -O 2 CCH 3 ) 2 [μ 2 -(C 6 H 4 )PPhFc][μ 2 -(C 6 H 4 )PPh 2 ]·(H 2 O) 2 ( …
Circular and linear dichroism of aggregates of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in 3-methylpentane and paraffin oil.
1996
A circular (CD) and linear dichroism (LD) study of the water adducts of the green plant chlorophylls a (Chl a) and b (Chl b) in hydrocarbon solvents 3-methylpentane and paraffin oil is presented. A strong red shift of the Qy-absorption band from 663 to 746 nm (1678 cm−1) is observed as the water adduct of Chl a is formed. The Chl a-water adduct shows a strong, nonconservative CD signal, which is characterized by a positive peak at 748 nm and two negative peaks at 720 and 771 nm. The maximum CD (AL - AR) is only one order of magnitude smaller than the isotropic absorption maximum. We propose that this exceptionally strong signal is the so-called psi-type CD. The LD spectrum was measured in a…
Possible interferences of mercury sulfur compounds with ethylated and methylated mercury species using HPLC-ICP-MS
2002
The HPLC-ICP-MS coupling technique is able to separate and detect methyl, ethyl and inorganic mercury isotopes specifically. An identification of ethyl mercury(+) is not possible when the widely used sodium tetraethylborate derivatisation method in combination with GC-AFS/AAS or ICP-MS techniques is performed because it contains ethyl groups. An unidentified compound with the same retention time as ethyl mercury was found in the HPLC chromatograms of industrial sewage samples and humic-rich soils of microcosm experiments after applying water vapour distillation. We also observed such unidentified peaks in samples of heavily contaminated sites in Eastern Germany, separated by HPLC fractionati…
Chemical reduction of the mycotoxin beauvericin using allyl isothiocyanate.
2011
Abstract Beauvericin (BEA) is a bioactive compound produced by the secondary metabolism of several Fusarium strains and known to have various biological activities. This study investigated the reduction of BEA present in the concentration of 25 mg/kg on a solution model (phosphate buffer saline at pH 4 and 7) and in wheat flour using allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) as a reactant. The concentration of the mycotoxin studied was evaluated using liquid chromatography coupled to the diode array detector (LC-DAD), whereas adducts formed between the BEA and AITC were examined by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry-linear ion trap (LC-MS-LIT). In solution, BEA reduction ranged from 20% t…
Covalent DNA adducts formed by benzo[c]chrysene in mouse epidermis and by benzo[c]chrysene fjord-region diol epoxides reacted with DNA and polynucleo…
1997
The metabolic activation in mouse skin of benzo[c]chrysene (B[c]C), a weakly carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) present in coal tar and crude oil, was investigated. Male Parkes mice were treated topically with 0.5 mumol of B[c]C, and DNA was isolated from the treated areas of skin at various times after treatment and analyzed by 32P-postlabeling. Seven adduct spots were detected, at a maximum level of 0.89 fmol of adducts/microgram of DNA. Four B[c]C-DNA adducts persisted in skin for at least 3 weeks. Treatment of mice with 0.5 mumol of the optically pure putative proximate carcinogens (+)- and (-)-trans-benzo[c]chrysene-9,10-dihydrodiols [(+)- and (-)-B[c]C-diols] led to th…
Relationship between mutagenicity and DNA adduct formation in mammalian cells for fjord- and bay-region diol-epoxides of polycyclic aromatic hydrocar…
1991
Abstract Chinese hamster V79 cells were treated with the anti- and syn-diastereomers of the bay- or fjord-region diol-epoxides of four polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, namely benzo[a]pyrene (BP), benzo[c]chrysene (BcC), benzo[g]chrysene (BgC) and benzo[c]phenanthrene (BcPh). The frequency of induction of 6-thioguanine-resistant mutations was determined, and the extent of formation of DNA adducts was measured by 32P-postlabelling. When expressed as mutation frequency per nanomoles compound per millilitre incubation medium, this group of chemicals expressed a 160-fold range in potency. In agreement with previous experimental studies, the anti-diol-epoxide of BcC was highly mutagenic, inducin…
DNA adduct levels associated with p53 induction and delay of MCF-7 cells in S phase after exposure to benzo[g]chrysene dihydrodiol epoxide enantiomer…
1998
Optically active isomers of a mammary carcinogen, anti-benzo[g]chrysene 11, 12-dihydrodiol 13, 14-epoxide, react to different extents with DNA and generate DNA adducts that differ in their stereochemistry. In the study reported here, the effect of these two enantiomers on the progress of human breast carcinoma MCF-7 cells through the cell cycle was investigated. Each enantiomer caused the cells to accumulate in the S phase, but a higher dose of the benzo[g]chrysene 11S, 12R-dihydrodiol 13R, 14S-epoxide than of its enantiomer was required to induce this effect. Similarly, induction of p53 also required a higher dose of benzo[g]chrysene 11S, 12R-dihydrodiol 13R, 14S-epoxide. Postlabeling stud…
