EURECCA colorectal: multidisciplinary mission statement on better care for patients with colon and rectal cancer in Europe
2013
Contains fulltext : 125368.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: Care for patients with colon and rectal cancer has improved in the last twenty years however still considerable variation exists in cancer management and outcome between European countries. Therefore, EURECCA, which is the acronym of European Registration of cancer care, is aiming at defining core treatment strategies and developing a European audit structure in order to improve the quality of care for all patients with colon and rectal cancer. In December 2012 the first multidisciplinary consensus conference about colon and rectum was held looking for multidisciplinary consensus. The expert panel consisted of…
Prognostic significance of interferon regulating factor 4 (IRF4) in node-negative breast cancer.
2014
620 Background: The transcription factor IRF4 (interferon regulating factor 4) regulates immunoglobulin class switch recombination as well as plasma cell differentiation. We examined the prognostic significance of IRF4 mRNA expression in node-negative breast cancer. Methods: Microarray based gene-expression data for IRF4 (204562_at) were analysed in four previously published cohorts (Mainz, Rotterdam, Transbig, Yu) of node-negative breast cancer patients not treated with adjuvant therapy (n=824). A meta-analysis of previously published cohorts was performed using a random effects model. Prognostic significance of IRF4 on metastasis-free survival (MFS) was examined in the whole cohort and in…
Uncommon Synchronous Association between Ovarian Carcinoma and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Case Study and Literature Review
2013
Background The association of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and other cancers is well known, but its synchronous occurrence with gynecological malignancies is very uncommon. Usually, the diagnosis is accidentally established. We describe a patient with GIST and concurrent ovarian cancer and discuss the clinical implications of this finding. Case report A 64-year-old woman with a prior diagnosis of ovarian cancer developed a second recurrence after having undergone two operations and adjuvant chemotherapy. While tumor debulking was performed, a small, nonsuspicious lesion was removed from the greater curvature of the stomach. Histology revealed a GIST. Conclusion The association of …
The effect of Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) on the rat bladder
1977
Immunostimulation with agents such as BCG or KLH may represent an adjuvant therapy in treating patients with bladder cancer. To investigate the effects of direct instillation and injection of KLH into the bladder of sensitized and nonsensitized rats, KLH was injected submucosally into the bladder. Histologically, a marked inflammatory reaction was seen without ulcerations.
EURECCA colorectal: multidisciplinary management: European consensus conference colon & rectum.
2014
Contains fulltext : 137861.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: Care for patients with colon and rectal cancer has improved in the last 20years; however considerable variation still exists in cancer management and outcome between European countries. Large variation is also apparent between national guidelines and patterns of cancer care in Europe. Therefore, EURECCA, which is the acronym of European Registration of Cancer Care, is aiming at defining core treatment strategies and developing a European audit structure in order to improve the quality of care for all patients with colon and rectal cancer. In December 2012, the first multidisciplinary consensus conference about…
Second St. Gallen European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Gastrointestinal Cancer Conference: consensus recommendations on controv…
2016
Contains fulltext : 171468pub.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) Primary treatment of rectal cancer was the focus of the second St. Gallen European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Gastrointestinal Cancer Conference. In the context of the conference, a multidisciplinary international expert panel discussed and voted on controversial issues which could not be easily answered using published evidence. Main topics included optimal pretherapeutic imaging, indication and type of neoadjuvant treatment, and the treatment strategies in advanced tumours. Here we report the key recommendations and summarise the related evidence. The treatment strategy for localised rect…
Role of adjuvant imatinib dose in radically resected GIST harboring KIT exon 9 mutations
2020
11533 Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) with a driver mutation in KIT exon 9 (Ex9) represent about 10% of all newly diagnosed cases. In the metastatic setting, Ex9-mutated GIST patients benefit from higher doses of imatinib (800 mg/day vs standard 400 mg/day). The additional therapeutic benefit from a higher dose of imatinib in the adjuvant setting in this molecular subgroup has not been confirmed. Methods: We retrospectively identified 105 patients (pts) with resected Ex9-mutated GIST treated with adjuvant imatinib (800 mg/day or 400 mg/day) in 15 different European centers. Disease-Free Survival (DFS) and Imatinib Failure-Free Survival (IFFS) were calculated and analyzed…
Preclinical and Clinical Characterization of Fibroblast-derived Neuregulin-1 on Trastuzumab and Pertuzumab Activity in HER2-positive Breast Cancer.
2021
[Purpose]: To characterize expression of neuregulin-1 (NRG1), an HER3 ligand, in HER2-positive breast cancer and its relation with the efficacy of trastuzumab with or without pertuzumab.
A randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled multicenter phase II trial of adjuvant immunotherapy with tecemotide (L-BLP25) after R0/R1 hepatic c…
2019
480 Background: Hepatic metastasectomy is the only potential curative treatment option for stage IV colorectal cancer (CRC) limited to liver metastases (LM). After R0 resection of LM the high recurrence rate remains a major challenge. L-BLP25 is an antigen-specific cancer vaccine targeting mucin 1 (MUC1). The LICC trial aimed to improve survival outcome in mCRC patients (pts) after R0/R1 LM resection. Methods: This LICC trial, a binational, multicenter, double-blinded, placebo controlled phase II trial, included pts with stage IV LM limited CRC after resection of primary tumor and LM (R0/R1) within the last 8 weeks, ECOG 0/1 and adequate organ function. Pts were 2:1 randomized to receive L…
Survival after secondary liver resection in metastatic colorectal cancer: Comparing data of three prospective randomized European trials ( LICC , CEL…
2021
Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients with liver-limited disease (LLD) have a chance of long-term survival and potential cure after hepatic metastasectomy. However, the appropriate postoperative treatment strategy is still controversial. The CELIM and FIRE-3 studies demonstrated that secondary hepatic resection significantly improved overall survival. The objective of this analysis was to compare these favorable outcome data with recent results from the LICC trial investigating the antigen-specific cancer vaccine tecemotide (L-BLP-25) as adjuvant therapy in mCRC patients with LLD after R0/R1 resection. Data from mCRC patients with LLD and secondary hepatic resection from each study w…
