Quality culture boosts agile transformation : Action research in a business‐to‐business software business

2023

Agile methodologies are sometimes adopted, with the assumption that benefits can be attained by only using a set of best practices, which can sometimes work to a degree. In this paper, a case is discussed where a software-producing organization of seven teams achieved significant improvements. The goal of the research was to answer two questions: how an already agile organization could improve its performance further and what is the impact of promoting quality aspects? The questions were answered by implementing interventions based on prior literature and data emerging from semi-structured interviews. The context was an established business with a complex revenue stream structure, meaning t…

THE TRUMAN SHOW OF SAME-SEX FAMILY. RIGHT TO FILIATION V. BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD

2019

This study offers a brief excursus on the adoption in Italy, focusing on the legislative choice (as ruled by the “Civil Partnership Act”)1 not to grant the stepchild adoption (SCA) to the partners of the registered partnerships, called unioni civili. When the Act was discussed by the Parliament, there was an hard debate on filiation in same-sex couple: the right to be a couple for same-sex partners has been less problematic than providing for a specific right to parenthood. On such issue was not reached a majority’s consent, so, in order to save the goal of unioni civili, the provisions on filiation and adoption for same sex couples had been set aside. In the absence of scientific studies a…

Association between communication deviance of adoptive parents and formal thought disorder of adoptee when the length of parents' speech is standardi…

2012

Communication Deviance (CD) is considered to be a potential environmental factor in gene-environment interaction leading to offspring psychopathology, for example thought disorders and mental disturbances. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between formal thought disorder of genetic high-risk and low-risk adoptees and Communication Deviance of adoptive parents when the length of their speech is standardized with spoken words (Word Count, WC). The sample included a group of 58 adoptees at high genetic risk for schizophrenia spectrum disorders and a comparison group of 96 low-risk adoptees and their adoptive families. Communication Deviance (CD) of the adoptive parents was …

Suomalaisessa skitsofrenian adoptiolapsitutkimuksessa geeni-ympäristö yhdysvaikutuksen on havaittu olevan yhteydessä yleisesti adoptiolasten psykiatrisiin häiriöihin. TUTKIMUSONGELMA: Ennustimme adoptiolasten seurannassa todettuja mielenterveyden häiriöitä perustuen heidän adoptiovanhempiensa yksilö-Rorschach -testissä todettuihin kommunikaatiohäiriöihin standardisoituna puheen pituudella. Vertasimme tätä menetelmään, jossa kommunikaatiohäiriöt oli standardisoitu transaktioiden (vastausten) lukumäärällä löy…

Toward a stage theory of adaptive social media use : explaining change in facebook use

2018

Existing research on information technology (IT) use has shown that post- adoptive technology use is not a stable but a dynamic phenomenon in which users apply various adaptation behaviors. Users reshape the technology (IT adaptation), adjust their work routines (task adaptation), and change their own behavior (user adaptation) according to the changes induced by IT. Today, people use increasingly social media and other IT for personal purposes. Facebook (FB) is a good example of personal IT that people voluntarily use for years and has become an integral part of people’s everyday lives. Despite extensive research on IT use and IT/user adaptation, we know little about the dynamics of post-a…

Adoption and Adoption Interests of Self-Tracking Technologies : Single and Multiple Technology Perspectives

2016

During the past few decades, different forms of technology based self-tracking have become increasingly common but received little attention in academic research. In this study, we aim to address this gap by examining the adoption and adoption interests of four different self-tracking technologies: exercise, activity, sleep, and nutrition tracking. The examination is conducted from both single and multiple technology perspectives and by concentrating particularly on the potential gender and age dependencies in the adoption rates and adoption patterns of the technologies. By analysing the responses collected from 824 consumers through an online survey, the results of the study are able to re…

School climate as predictor of teachers’ competences to recognize the educational needs of adopted children in Italy

2019

The current study examines the association between different components of school climate (teacher-principal and teacher-parent relationships, parents’ involvement in school activities, connection between school and the local services) and teachers’ competences and knowledge regarding the adoption experience. Participants were 573 teachers (95.7% women; mean age= 47.06, SD= 8.66, ranging between 25 and 65) residing in three Italian regions characterized by rates of international adoptions that are higher than the national average. The association between school climate and teachers’ knowledge and competences on adoption was evaluated via independent multiple logistic regression analyses. Fi…

Method and Practical Guidelines for Overcoming Enterprise Architecture Adoption Challenges

2017

During the last few years, interest towards Enterprise Architecture (EA) has increased, not least due to anticipated benefits resulting from adopting it. For instance, EA has been argued to provide cost reduction, technology standardisation, process improvement, and strategic differentiation. Despite these benefits, the EA adoption rate and maturity are still low. Consequently, EA benefits are not realised. A major reason hindering the adoption is that EA is not understood correctly. This paper aims for minimising the effect of the lack of understanding EA to adopting EA. Based on the research conducted in Finnish public sector, we propose an improved Enterprise Architecture Adoption Method…
