Accumuler le capital humain tout au long de la vie: Quels facteurs prédictifs de la participation à la formation permanente?
2003
This article addresses the main predictors of adult education, using statistical methods different from those generally used by social science researchers. Its aim is twofold. First, it seeks to explain in a simple and comprehensible manner the methodological value of these methods (in relation to the use of structural models); secondly, it demonstrates the concrete usefulness of these methods on the basis of a recent piece of research on the data from the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS).
Triacylglycerols in edible oils: Determination, characterization, quantitation, chemometric approach and evaluation of adulterations
2017
Vegetable oils are a dietary source of lipids that constitute an essential component of a healthy diet. The commonly used vegetable oils differ significantly for their triacylglycerol (TAG) profile. TAGs represent the principal components of oils and may contain different fatty acids (FA) esterified with glycerol leading to several positional isomers. To differentiate individual TAGs species in edible oils, advanced analysis systems and innovative methods are therefore required. TAGs can be considered as good fingerprints for quality control and many studies have been performed to develop rapid and low cost analytical methods to determinate the authenticity, origin and eventually evidence f…

Katherine Watson, Poisoned lives: English poisoners and their victims, London and New York, Hambledon and London, 2004, pp. xiv, 268, illus., £19.99 …
2005
This book provides a fresh look at the social history of poisons and poisoners based on around 500 cases of criminal poisoning that occurred in England between 1750 and 1914. Watson analyses not only published sources but also the rich documents stored at the National Archives at Kew. As a consequence, the study offers reliable statistical data about poisoning and includes a broad range of cases, not only the most famous and popular poisoning trials. First of all, Watson describes the main poisons employed in the nineteenth century, their effects on human bodies and the three ways of detecting them: clinical symptoms, post-mortem autopsies and chemical tests. The different value of these si…
El bordell dels prohoms. El control municipal de la prostitució al Castelló del segle XV
2005
As in other medieval towns, local authorities of Castelló de la Plana controled legal prostitution. Town council supported public brothel in order to dissuade some passions that, otherwise, could degenerate into adultery and violence, and in the lastanalysis into disorders that threaten marriage as guarantee of material and social reproduction of community and its hierarchies. In this paper we analyze moral and politic arguments, places and protagonists of legal prostitution, and repression of transgressor behaviours.<br><br>Com en altres poblacions medievals, les autoritats municipals de Castelló de la Plana regulaven I'exercici legal de la prostitució. The pathogenetic role of adulterants in 5 cases of drug addicts with a fatal outcome
2013
The purpose of the present study is to determine the role of lidocaine, caffeine and dextromethorphan, used as adulterant substances, in five cases of drug overdose which have come to our attention. Taking into account the pharmacological mechanism, blood concentration and route of administration (intravenous) we evaluated the hypothesis that these substances could act with a synergistic effect - or at least additive - with the illicit drugs on the central nervous system and cardiovascular system.

Donner soi-même, donner autrui. Conversion d'adultes et oblation d'enfants en Provence (fin Xe-XIIe siècle)
2010
Taking as its point of departure the case of Provence as documented in the diplomatic sources of Benedictine monasteries and in hagiography, this article demonstrates that the increase in the conversion of adults in the second half of the eleventh century is unrelated to a supposed decline in child oblation. Contrary to the traditional perspective, oblation appears to remain stable and the oblate monk (nutritus) is still the ideal model of monastic perfection as opposed to the converted monk (conversus), an alternative model then offered to the seigniorial aristocracy.
Capital humain et compétences de base des adultes : production et valorisation
2013
Basic skills are important in current policies because of high costs generated by illiteracy and supported by the society. The aim of the present thesis is to bring a new contribution on this thematic in a microeconomic approach. It consists of two parts. The first one concerns the valorization of basic skills on the labor market, through chapters 1 and 2, while the second one concerns the production of French skills according to the migratory origins, through chapters 3 and 4. Chapter 1 is about the returns to basic skills on the labor market, in terms of overeducation/undereducation and in terms of wages. The central hypothesis is to assume that education, through the diploma, is not a go…
