La diffusione del culto della Madonna del Pilar in ambito mediterraneo: un capezzale trapanese in corallo a Malta

2019

The article deals with the spread of the devotion to Our Lady of the Pillar in Our Lady of the Pillar, particularly in Sicily and Malta. Initially the birth and the affirmation of this cult in Spain are investigated, starting from the tradition of her appearance in 40 AD. to the Apostle James the Great near the shores of the Ebro river, near today's Zaragoza. From the Iberian peninsula the cult has spread to all the territories historically linked to the Spanish crown.

Retama species growing in different ecological-climatic areas of northeastern Algeria have a narrow range of rhizobia that form a novel phylogenetic …

2009

International audience; Sixty-seven isolates were isolated from nodules collected on roots of Mediterranean shrubby legumes Retama raetam and Retama sphaerocarpa growing in seven ecological-climatic areas of northeastern Algeria. Genetic diversity of the Retama isolates was analyzed based on genotyping by restriction fragment length polymorphism of PCR-amplified fragments of the 16S rRNA gene, the intergenic spacer (IGS) region between the 16S and 23S rRNA genes (IGS), and the symbiotic genes nifH and nodC. Eleven haplotypes assigned to the Bradyrhizobium genus were identified. Significant biogeographical differentiation of the rhizobial populations was found, but one haplotype was predomin…

Frequency-specific network activity predicts bradykinesia severity in Parkinson’s disease

2021

Highlights • Parallel subnetworks are affected in bradykinesia. • The primary motor and the premotor cortex are common nodes with task-specificity. • Beta activity decreases, gamma activity increases with improvement of bradykinesia. • Subthalamic stimulation reduces beta, increases gamma power in ipsilateral cortex. • Subnetworks act with frequency-specific oscillations.

Kobiece modelowanie norm społecznych w siedemnastowiecznym Paryżu

2020

In the 17th century Paris, salons, held bywomen, modeled and refi ned norms of behavior. These regular gatherings of famous people connected with culture included discussions about various subjects whose order was to refi ne the participants’ taste through subtle and exquisite conversation forms. These made women become not only privileged interlocutors but also literary critics who evaluated as well the creators as their works. Those feminine literary judgments were generally considered as positive because of the very natural character of women’s expression. However, those who criticized this activity accused women with lack of solid education that is necessary to judge any literary work.

M/M/1 queue in two alternating environments and its heavy traffic approximation

2018

We investigate an M/M/1 queue operating in two switching environments, where the switch is governed by a two-state time-homogeneous Markov chain. This model allows to describe a system that is subject to regular operating phases alternating with anomalous working phases or random repairing periods. We first obtain the steady-state distribution of the process in terms of a generalized mixture of two geometric distributions. In the special case when only one kind of switch is allowed, we analyze the transient distribution, and investigate the busy period problem. The analysis is also performed by means of a suitable heavy-traffic approximation which leads to a continuous random process. Its d…

Determination of Diffusion Parameters by a Computer Code (FDP) Based on Mathematica 6.0

2010

A computer code named Fitting for Diffusion Parameters (FDP) based on Mathematica 6.0 has been developed for modeling through- and out-diffusion experiments. FDP was used to determine the diffusion coefficients (De ) and the rock capacity factors (α) for tritiated water (HTO) and 22 Na+ and the distribution coefficient (Kd ) of 22 Na+ in Opalinus Clay (OPA). The values for De and α were obtained by fitting the results of experimental data of both transient and steady-state phases to the analytical solution of accumulated activity. The quality of the parameters De and α was tested by using them as input parameters in the equation of flux. Moreover, the diffusion parameters of HTO and 22 Na+ …

Intracellular accumulation of l-Arg, kinetics of transport, and potassium leak conductance in oocytes from Xenopus laevis expressing hCAT-1, hCAT-2A,…

2004

AbstractCationic amino acid transporters play an important role in the intracellular supply of l-Arg and the generation of nitric oxide. Since the transport of l-Arg is voltage-dependent, we aimed at determining the intracellular l-Arg concentration and describing the transport of l-Arg in terms of Michaelis–Menten kinetics, taking into account membrane voltage. The human isoforms of the cationic amino acid transporters, hCAT-1, hCAT-2A, and hCAT-2B, were expressed in oocytes from Xenopus laevis and studied with the voltage clamp technique and in tracer experiments. We found that l-Arg was concentrated intracellularly by all hCAT isoforms and that influx and efflux, in the steady state of e…

Bradykinin modulates spontaneous nerve growth factor production and stretch-induced ATP release in human urothelium

2013

The urothelium plays a crucial role in integrating urinary bladder sensory outputs, responding to mechanical stress and chemical stimulation by producing several diffusible mediators, including ATP and, possibly, neurotrophin nerve growth factor (NGF). Such urothelial mediators activate underlying afferents and thus may contribute to normal bladder sensation and possibly to the development of bladder overactivity. The muscle-contracting and pain-inducing peptide bradykinin is produced in various inflammatory and non-inflammatory pathologies associated with bladder overactivity, but the effect of bradykinin on human urothelial function has not yet been characterized. The human urothelial cel…

Manometrische Regelung kontinuierlicher Gärungen durch das Gärungs-CO2

1972

Using CO2 in manometric control of continuous cultures (Sacch. cer.), the cultures were maintained constant ir intensity of metabolism in respect to CO2-production. The small fermentors (50 ml) are useful for investigations in metabolism under various conditions at a steady state.

Action of tertiary phenylalkylamines on cardiac transient outward current from outside the cell membrane.

1996

The effects of the phenylalkylamines verapamil (V), gallopamil (G), and devapamil (D) and their corresponding quaternary derivatives on the transient outward current (Ito) were examined in rat ventricular cardiomyocytes using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. The question was addressed, whether phenylalkylamines act on Ito from the inside or the outside or from both sides of the cell membrane. To this end, the myocytes were either superfused extracellularly or perfused intracellularly with drug-containing solutions. In addition, the effects of verapamil were investigated at different pH-values. V, G, and D (30 microM each), applied extracellularly, reduced the steady state current of It…
