Age-related satisfaction with complete dentures, desire for improvement and attitudes to implant treatment

In the edentulous lower jaw implant stabilised dentures have proved clinically so successful that the indication for this treatment is now being discussed more often with geriatric patients. The aim of this study of edentate subjects was to determine the age-relation of the demand for denture improvement, the risks and feasibility of implant treatment. Sixty four complete denture wearers aged from 42 to 84 years took part in the study. A questionnaire was used to determine the subjective demand for denture improvement. Age-related differences in Achilles tendon properties and triceps surae muscle architecture in vivo

This study examined the concurrent age-related differences in muscle and tendon structure and properties. Achilles tendon morphology and mechanical properties and triceps surae muscle architecture were measured from 100 subjects [33 young (24 ± 2 yr) and 67 old (75 ± 3 yr)]. Motion analysis-assisted ultrasonography was used to determine tendon stiffness, Young's modulus, and hysteresis during isometric ramp contractions. Ultrasonography was used to measure muscle architectural features and size and tendon cross-sectional area. An increased number and density of the so-called “giant ganglia” (seven or greater ganglion cells per ganglion) serve as histopathological criteria for a bowel motility disorder called intestinal neuronal dysplasia of the submucous plexus (IND B). However, because these morphological criteria have been defined based upon observations in constipated patients, the diagnostic value of previous studies is open to controversy. Age-related decrease in male reproductive success and song quality in Drosophila montana

In the present paper, we have studied the effects of aging on male reproductive success and song quality in Drosophila montana .W e analyzed the reproductive success of wild-caught males at their normal breeding age during the mating season and after maintaining the males in laboratory from 1 to 5 months. In line with the mutation accumulation theory of aging, none of the factors affecting the reproductive success of wild-caught males during the mating season were related to male longevity.
