Increase in stability and change in supramolecular structure of β-carotene through encapsulation into polylactic acid nanoparticles

2011

International audience; β-Carotene (BC) exhibits controversial antioxidant properties as it may act also as a prooxidant. Its stability toward oxidation depends on its dispersion form and can be increased through encapsulation. In this study, oxidation of BC from synthetic and natural origins was investigated after dispersion in Tween micelles or poly lactic acid (PLA) particles. Two oxidation systems were used: autooxidation and oxidation by xanthine oxidase-generated-reactive oxygen species. Results showed that synthetic BC formed nanometric negatively-charged particles in both Tween micelle and PLA systems, whereas the natural BC sample used was shown to be already pre-oxidised, forming …

H and 19F NMR Investigation on Mixed Hydrocarbon−Fluorocarbon Micelles

2003

1H and 1 9 F NMR measurements on aqueous solutions of sodium perfluorooctanoate (SPFO) and sodium dodecanoate (SD) mixtures are reported. The surfactant concentration ranged from ∼0.3 to 10 times the critical micelle concentration (cmc ≅ 0.03 mol L - 1 ). The cmc of the SD/SPFO/water mixed system obtained from NMR data was in good agreement with that previously obtained by conductivity measurements. Below the cmc, the experimental chemical shift (δ) was independent of the total concentration for both surfactants. Above the cmc, however, the 6 values for 1 9 F varied linearly with concentration, whereas the values for the hydrogenated surfactant deviated from linearity. These observations in…

Spectral studies of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine aggregation

2009

The association of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine, was studied using UV–vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy; the effects of dye concentration, pH and solvents on spectra were discussed. Calculations showed that the dye dimerized in aqueous solutions ranging from 5.0 × 10−7 to 5.0 × 10−5 mol/dm3, at 25 °C. The dimerization constant of 106 dm3/mol and the spectral Q band shift of 1185 cm−1 imparted by dimerization indicated strong π–π interactions between phthalocyanine molecules. Red S1 fluorescence of the dye monomer was observed in various solutions which was quenched owing to molecular association and other factors. The strong influence of pH on both aggregation and fluo…

Solubilization of an Organic Solute in Aqueous Solutions of Unimeric Block Copolymers and Their Mixtures with Monomeric Surfactant: Volume, Surface T…

2008

The ability of aqueous systems, formed by unimeric copolymers and their mixtures with a monomeric surfactant, in solubilizing large quantities of 1-nitropropane (PrNO2) was explored. The copolymers are F68 and L64, which differ for the hydrophilicity, and the surfactant is sodium dodecanoate. For a better understanding of the mechanism of solubilization, thermodynamic (volume and differential scanning calorimetry), spectroscopy (steady-state fluorescence), viscosity, and interfacial investigations were carried out. PrNO2 causes the micellization of the unimeric copolymer, and the required amount of PrNO2 depends on the composition, the copolymer nature, and the temperature. Large quantities…

Protein aggregation induced by phase separation in a pea proteins–sodium alginate–water ternary system

2012

Abstract The physicochemical properties of a native, globular plant protein–linear anionic polysaccharide aqueous system at 20 °C were investigated in conditions where biopolymers carry a net negative charge (pH 7.2, 0.1 M NaCl). The pea proteins–sodium alginate mixtures showed a phase separation mainly by thermodynamic incompatibility, characterized at both the macroscopic and microscopic scale. Phase diagram was established and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) provided accurate data on the microstructure morphology of the system, regarding its phase behavior. In admixture, sodium alginate induced a protein aggregation, certainly by a local depletion of the polysaccharide. Protein…

Myopathic form of arthrogryposis and microcirculation lesion.

1989

A microvascular lesion characterized by extensive platelet aggregation, thrombosis, vascular damage with hemorrhages was found in the muscle of a 2-month-old boy with a myopathic form of the arthrogryposis syndrome. The lesion morphologically resembled the vascular leakage seen in immunologically mediated tissue injury. A degradative effect of proteases released during platelet and neutrophil aggregation on the muscle and joints is suggested.

Initiation and duration of dual antiplatelet therapy after inpatient percutaneous coronary intervention with stent implantation in Germany: An electr…

2017

Abstract Background Studies assessing the routine outpatient dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Germany are scarce. The aim of this study was (i) to investigate the initiation and duration of DAPT after inpatient PCI with stent implantation in Germany, and (ii) to identify factors associated with DAPT discontinuation during the recommended treatment period. Methods This retrospective cohort study was based on data from a large German electronic healthcare database of the years 2004 to 2009. The study population comprised four groups of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or stable angina pectoris undergoing inpatient PCI with either ba…

Medical news aggregation and ranking of taking into account the user needs

2019

The purpose of this work is to develop an intelligent information system that is designed for aggregation and ranking of news taking into account the needs of the user. The online market for mass media and the needs of readers, the purpose of their searches and moments is not enough to find the news is analyzed. A conceptual model of the information aggression system and ranking of news that would enable presentation of the work of the future intellectual information system, to show its structure is constructed. The methods and means for implementation of the intellectual information system are selected. An online resource for aggregation and ranking of news, news feeds and flexible setting…

Influence of side chain characteristics on the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties of tetrasubstituted tetraphenylethylene (TPE)

2017

[EN] Five new tetraphenylethylene (TPE) derivatives were synthesised and their aggregation-induced emission (AIE) was evaluated in mixtures of THF/water and MeOH/water. The influence of regiochemistry and length of the chains in the substituents on emissive properties was studied.

On the role of D-glucuronic acid in the aggregation of cells from the marine sponge Geodia cydonium.

1979

Abstract The aggregation receptor (AR) from the marine sponge GEODIA CYDONIUM was analyzed with respect to its monosaccharide composition. Three major sugars ( D -galactose, D -glucose and D -glucuronic acid) accounted for about 85 % of the total carbohydrate. Negative results with different lectins directed against D -galactosyl, N -acetyl- D -galactosaminyl and N -acetyl- D -glucosaminyl groups, respectively, showed that these sugars are serologically unreactive in AR. Positive serological reactions were obtained with CONCANAVALIN A and LIMULUS POLYPHEMUS agglutinin. AR also reacted strongly with the basic polymer poly- L -lysine. Reaggregation experiments performed on the basis of these …
