Quality control of pharmaceuticals containing clenbuterol by thermal lens spectrometry.

An ultrasensitive absorptiometric procedure for the determination of clenbuterol in pharmaceutical preparations was developed. Clenbuterol was diazotized with nitrite and coupled with 1-(naphthyl)ethylenediamine, and the absorbance of the azo dye formed was measured by both spectrophotometry and ultrasensitive thermal lens spectrometry (TLS). The TLS limit of detection was 1.5 ppb, 14-fold lower than with a Hewlett-Packard diode array spectrophotometer. Thus, the TLS procedure can be advantageously applied to quality control of clenbuterol at the individual dose level and in small samples. Repeatability as relative standard deviation was 1.5% (50 ppb, n = 6).

Encapsulation of Alcohol Dehydrogenase in Mannitol by Spray Drying

The retention of the enzyme activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) has been studied in various drying processes such as spray drying. The aim of this study is to encapsulate ADH in mannitol, either with or without additive in order to limit the thermal denaturation of the enzyme during the drying process. The retention of ADH activity was investigated at different drying temperatures. When mannitol was used, the encapsulated ADH was found inactive in all the dried powders. This is presumably due to the quick crystallization of mannitol during spray drying that resulted in the impairment of enzyme protection ability in comparison to its amorphous form. 2-Azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonanes (morphans) with a (3,4-dichlorophenyl)acetyl group at 2-position and a pyrrolidino moiety at 8-position were designed as conformationally restricted analogs of piperidine-based KOR agonists. The synthesis started with 4-oxopiperidine-2-carboxylic acid comprising 13 reaction steps. At first the ketone 10 was transformed into diester 7 bearing a propionate side chain. Ocean acidification is thought to be a major threat to coral reefs: laboratory evidence and CO2 seep research has shown adverse effects on many coral species, although a few are resilient. There are concerns that cold-water corals are even more vulnerable as they live in areas where aragonite saturation (Omega ara) is lower than in the tropics and is falling rapidly due to CO2 emissions. Abstract Discriminant analysis applied to SAR studies using topological descriptors allows us to plot frequency distribution diagrams: a function of the number of drugs within an interval of values of discriminant function vs. these values. We make use of these representations, pharmacological distribution diagrams (PDDs), in structurally heterogeneous groups where generally they adopt skewed Gaussian shapes or present several maxima. Speleothems are one of the most intensively explored continental archives for palaeoclimate variability. The parameters, however, that control speleothem petrography and its changes with time and space, specifically calcite crystal morphology and carbonate mineralogy, are still poorly understood. In order to shed light on processes and their products, precipitation experiments of recent carbonate crystals on watch glasses and glass plates were performed in seven selected caves.
