Chiral bis(amino alcohol)oxalamides as ligands for asymmetric catalysis. Ti(IV) catalyzed enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes

Abstract Several chiral bis(aminoalcohol)oxalamides with C 2 -symmetry have been prepared and used as ligands for the enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes. The reaction proceeds in the presence of titanium isopropoxide to give the corresponding ( S )-alcohols with ee up to 78%. In the absence of Ti(IV), the alcohols with the opposite configuration are obtained.
Effect of Substituents on Partial Photocatalytic Oxidation of Aromatic Alcohols Assisted by Polymeric C3N4

In the present work we scrutinize the effect of substituents in the phenyl ring of the benzyl alcohol on its photo-oxidation to the corresponding benzaldehyde driven by polymeric carbon nitride photocatalyst in aqueous medium. It has been established that electron donating (ED) substituents in para- and ortho-position with respect to the CH2OH-group promote the reactivity of the substrate without compromising the selectivity towards benzaldehyde formation, maintaining it in the range of 84–98 %, if compared to the unsubstituted molecule. Chiral Oxazolidine Complexes Derived from Phenolic Schiff Bases

Schiff bases derived from pyridyl- or salicyl-aldehydes and aminoalcohols can evolve to heterocyclic oxazolidines, which in the presence of cations allow the formation of uncommon coordination compounds. In this work, we report new NiII and mixed valence MnII/ MnIV complexes derived from pyridyl oxazolidines and the unprecedented characterization of enantiomerically pure oxazolidines derived from the condensation of o-vanillin with phenylglycinol in the presence of NiII cations. The different reactivity of the pyridinic or phenolic Schiff bases has been compared, and the new systems have been structurally, optically, and magnetically characterized.

Abstract Benzene and 13 potential metabolites were investigated for genotoxicity in Salmonella typhimurium and V79 Chinese hamster cells. In the presence of NADPH-fortified hepatic postmitochondrial fraction (S9 mix), benzene reverted his- S. typhimurium strains. The effect was strongest in strain TA1535. Among the potential metabolites, only the trans-1,2-dihydrodiol, in the presence of S9 mix, and the diol epoxides, in the presence and absence of S9 mix, proved mutagenic in this strain. The anti-diol epoxide was more potent than the syn-diastereomer. Both enantiomers of the anti-diastereomer showed similar activities. Bipolar disorder (BD) and alcohol use disorders (AUDs) are usually comorbid, and both have been associated with significant neurocognitive impairment. Patients with the BD-AUD comorbidity (dual diagnosis) may have more severe neurocognitive deficits than those with a single diagnosis, but there is paucity of research in this area. To explore this hypothesis more thoroughly, we carried out a systematic literature review through January 2015. Modification of EVOH copolymers with e-caprolactone: synthesis and compatibilization effects in PE/PVC blends

Polyethylene-polycaprolactone graft copolymers with different chemical structures (i.e. different number and length of PCL grafts and molecular weight of PE backbone) were synthesized from various EVOH copolymers and e-caprolactone, using Aluminum isopropoxide as catalyst, and were tested for their compatibilizing capability in PE/PVC blends. PE and PCL segments in the graft copolymers were found completely immiscible, while PCL segments of the graft copolymers were found completely miscible with PVC. Advances in transgenic technology have led to the possibility of modifying lignin to improve the pulping properties of plant materials for papermaking.
