With a corpus of one hundred and twenty-seven illuminations, from eighty-one manuscripts painted in France in the 14th and 15th centuries, my thesis examines the construction of the lady’s character, through the texts and the imagery.Between imagination and historical reality, we studying how the representations of this idealized figure, praised by troubadours and authors of the late Middle Ages, influence social relationship about the medieval noble woman. In 1937, Pablo Picasso was chosen by the Republican Gov-ernment to be the artistic representative in the Spanish pavilion at the International Exhibition in Paris. The subject of the work was to be a denunciation of the Spanish Civil War. Picasso took his inspiration from the Guernica Tragedy, and the result was what is undoubtedly one of the most universally renowned paintings of the 20th century. As the artist never offered an interpretation of the painting, historians have since made an enormous variety of hypotheses. One of them suggests that the female figure carrying an oil lamp is the personification of the Republic.
Contemporary performance art by Helena Walsh: embodiment as empowerment in an Irish context

Ever since the 1970s, performance artists have used their bodies as a means to question the patriarchal control of women. In Ireland, where the body is at the center of debates over contraception, abortion and divorce, feminist performance art has proved particularly pertinent to substitute the real experiential body to the allegorical or fetishized female body. Through her performances, Helena Walsh incites the viewers to respond to the effect of ideology on the physical body. Embodiment, impersonation and incorporation make the body explicit and reopen historical wounds.

This article focuses on the English translation and reception of a major contemporary Hungarian novel, Ádám Bodor’s The Sinistra Zone. A fairly slim book, The Sinistra Zone was first published in 1992, established Bodor as a major writer and inspired a considerable amount of critical literature in Hungary. The article first gives an overview of the position of The Sinistra Zone in contemporary Hungarian literature and highlights some issues discussed by critics that are relevant for the discussion of the English translation and reception. In Romanticism, the employment of abstract concepts within an epic ‘miracle machine’ was arranged by means of personification. This was the case until Antoni Malczewski, a Polish Romantic poet, introduced free indirect speech which facilitated linking anthropomorphised abstractions with their ‘genetic subjects,’ i.e. experiencing characters. What distinguishes the biblical books of Sacred Scripture from other compositions and works of literature is undoubtedly its supernatural character described in theology as inspiration. Still, the reflction of numerous centuries,beginning from the Church Fathers, has been necessary to formulate this specifi quantity of the biblical text as well as explain and classify it into proper categories corresponding with the contents of Sacred Scripture.
