Theoretical investigation of paramagnetic diazabutadiene gallium(III)-pnictogen complexes: insights into the interpretation and simulation of electro…
2005
The electronic structures and the spin density distributions of the paramagnetic gallium 1,4-diaza(1,3)butadiene (DAB) model systems [((t)Bu-DAB)Ga(I)[Pn(SiH3)2]]* and the related dipnictogen species [((t)Bu-DAB)Ga[Pn(SiH3)2]2]* (Pn = N, P, As) were studied using density functional theory. The calculations demonstrate that all systems share a qualitatively similar electronic structure and are primarily ligand-centered pi-radicals. The calculated electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) hyperfine coupling constants (HFCCs) for these model systems were optimized using iterative methods and were used to create accurate spectral simulations of the parent radicals [((t)Bu-DAB)Ga(I)[Pn(SiMe3)2]]* (P…
68 Ga‐Labelled Tropane Analogues for the Visualization of the Dopaminergic System
2020
Abstract The development of radiometal‐labelled pharmaceuticals for neuroimaging could offer great potential due to easier handling during labelling and availability through radionuclide generator systems. Nonetheless, to date, no such tracers are available for positron emission tomography, primarily owing to the challenge of crossing the blood–brain barrier (BBB) and loss of affinity through chelator attachment. We have prepared a variety of 68Ga‐labelled phenyltropanes showing that, through a simple hydrocarbon‐linker, it is possible to introduce a chelator onto the lead structure while maintaining its high affinity for hDAT (human dopamine transporter) and simultaneously achieving adequa…
Equilibrium, Kinetic and Structural Properties of Gallium(III) and Some Divalent Metal Complexes Formed with the New DATAm and DATA5m Ligands
2017
The development of 68Ge/68Ga generators has made the positron-emitting 68Ga isotope widely accessible and raised interest in new chelate complexes of Ga3+. The hexadentate 1,4-di(acetate)-6-methyl[amino(methyl)acetate]perhydro-1,4-diazepane (DATAm) ligand and its bifunctional analogue, 1,4-di(acetate)-6-pentanoic acid[amino(methyl)acetate]perhydro-1,4-diazepane (DATA5m), rapidly form complexes with 68Ga in high radiochemical yield. The stability constants of DATAm and DATA5m complexes formed with Ga3+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Mn2+ and Ca2+ have been determined by using pH potentiometry, spectrophotometry (Cu2+) and 1H and 71Ga NMR spectroscopy (Ga3+). The stability constants of Ga(DATAm) and Ga(DATA5m)…
Ex situ investigations of MOCVD-grown gallium nitride nanowires using reflection high energy electron diffraction
2011
Vertically oriented nanowires (NWs) of single-crystalline wurtzite GaN have been fabricated on sapphire substrates, via metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). We present ex situ investigations on orientation and structure of grown GaN nanowires on GaN(0001) surface using reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED). Both ordered and randomly oriented GaN crystalline structures have been detected.
Effects of garlic powders with varying alliin contents on hepatic drug metabolizing enzymes in rats
2003
International audience; The anticarcinogenic effect of garlic has been demonstrated in both epidemiologic and experimental studies. In this study, possible mechanisms involved in the anticarcinogenic effect of garlic consumption were assessed by determining its capacity to alter drug metabolizing enzymes, in relation with its alliin content. Rats were fed a diet for 2 weeks containing 5% garlic powders produced from bulbs grown on soils with different levels of sulfate fertilization and therefore containing differing amounts of alliin. Activities of several hepatic enzymes, which are important in carcinogen metabolism such cytochromes P450 (CYP) and phase II enzymes, were determined. Garlic…
Bioavailability and food production of organosulfur compounds from edible Allium species
2019
Abstract Allium members are known for their wide use in culinary dishes and the content of their bioactive compounds. In this aspect, edible Allium members, such as garlic (A. sativum), onion (A. cepa), leeks (A. porrum), chives (A. schoenoprasum), and shallots (A. ascalonicum), have been widely studied with respect to their functional properties in vivo. Their beneficial effects on humans are closely associated with bioavailability of organosulfur compounds (OSCs) in allyl and methyl forms. However, the OSCs are thermally unstable, so it is important to identify critical processing types/parameters that have destructive effects on bioavailability of the OSCs, and possibly to avoid them in …

Composition of the essential oil of allium neapolitanum cirillo growing wild in sicily and its activity on microorganisms affecting historical art cr…
2015
Essential oil of the aerial parts of Allium neapolitanum Cirillo collected in Sicily were analyzed by gas-chromatography-flame-ionization detection and gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry. Nineteen compounds were identified in the oil and the main components were found to be (E)-chrysanthenyl acetate (28.1%), (Z)-chrysanthenyl acetate (23.8%), (E)-β-farnesene (9.6%), dimethyl trisulfide (9.6%), camphor (7.4%), methyl allyl disulfide (6.8%) and 1-methyl-3-allyl trisulfide (5.8%). The essential oil showed good antimicrobial activity against 11 strains of test microorganisms, including several species infesting historical material.

What is Allium paniculatum? Establishing taxonomic and molecular phylogenetic relationships within A. sect. Codonoprasum
2016
Allium paniculatum L. is commonly recorded from the Euro-Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian regions. Evidence from literature and herbarium collections revealed that many different taxa of A. sect. Codonoprasum Rchb., all characterized by big size, diffuse and densely flowered umbrella, very long spathe valves, long pedicels, and cylindrical-campanulate perigon, have been wrongly attributed to this species thus affecting records on its geographic distribution and morphological characterization. In order to define the true identity of A. paniculatum, we analyzed specimens coming from the type locality (Don River), and provided details on morphology, ecology, karyology, leaf anatomy, seed morph…
