Bimodal tracers synthesis for medical imaging PET/MRI

Today physicians can use a wide variety of medical imaging techniques to establish early and accurate diagnosis. Nevertheless, each modality has its own advantages and drawbacks. This is why bi- or multimodality approach seems interesting. Among them, PET/MRI combination seems very promising because it can bring complementary informations. Tracing anthropogenic thallium in soil using stable isotope compositions.

Thallium stable isotope data are used in this study, for the first time, to apportion Tl contamination in soils. In the late 1970s, a cement plant near Lengerich, Germany, emitted cement kiln dust (CKD) with high Tl contents, due to cocombustion of Tl-enriched pyrite roasting waste. Locally contaminated soil profiles were obtained down to 1 m depth and the samples are in accord with a binary mixing relationship in a diagram of Tl isotope compositions (expressed as e(205)Tl, the deviation of the (205)Tl/(203)Tl ratio of a sample from the NIST SRM 997 Tl isotope standard in parts per 10(4)) versus 1/[Tl]. Processing of Generator-Produced 68Ga for Medical Application

The (68)Ge/(68)Ga generator provides an excellent source of positron-emitting (68)Ga. However, newly available "ionic" (68)Ge/(68)Ga radionuclide generators are not necessarily optimized for the synthesis of (68)Ga-labeled radiopharmaceuticals. Blocking NMDA-receptors in the pigeon's "prefrontal" caudal nidopallium impairs appetitive extinction learning in a sign-tracking paradigm

Extinction learning provides the ability to flexibly adapt to new contingencies by learning to inhibit previously acquired associations in a context-dependent manner. The neural networks underlying extinction learning were mostly studied in rodents using fear extinction paradigms. To uncover invariant properties of the neural basis of extinction learning, we employ pigeons as a model system. Electrical manipulation of magnetism via spin-orbit torques (SOTs) promises efficient spintronic devices. In systems comprising magnetic insulators and heavy metals, SOTs have started to be investigated only recently, especially in systems with interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (iDMI). Here, we quantitatively study the SOT efficiency and iDMI in a series of gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG) / thulium iron garnet (TmIG) / platinum (Pt) heterostructures with varying TmIG and Pt thicknesses. Photoelectron spectroscopy of thin discontinuous metal films deposited onto a sapphire substrate

Abstract The charging of small metallic clusters forming discontinuous gold and gallium films, condensed in vacuum onto an insulating substrate (sapphire), was experimentally studied by the method of ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) for a photon energy of 5.4 eV. It seems that the charging is due to electron emission as well as to electron transfer from metal islands to the empty electron states in the metal-insulator interface.

Tight-binding study of the optical properties of GaN/AlN polar and nonpolar quantum wells

The electronic structure of wurtzite semiconductor superlattices (SLs) and quantum wells (QWs) is calculated by using the empirical tight-binding method. The basis used consists of four orbitals per atom (sp3 model), and the calculations include the spin-orbit coupling as well as the strain and electric polarization effects. We focus our study on GaN/AlN QWs wells grown both in polar (C) and nonpolar (A) directions. The band structure, wave functions and optical absorption spectrum are obtained and compared for both cases.
