Ex vivo T-cell depletion vs post-transplant cyclophosphamide, sirolimus, and mycophenolate mofetil as graft-vs-host disease prophylaxis for allogenei…

2021

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of CD34+ selected ex vivo T-cell depletion (TCD) vs post-transplant cyclophosphamide, sirolimus, and mycophenolate mofetil (PTCy-Sir-MMF) as graft-vs-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis. Methods We retrospectively included patients who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) with either TCD (n = 38) or PTCy-Sir-MMF (n = 91). Results Cumulative incidence of neutrophil and platelet recovery was 92% vs 99% (P = .06) and 89% vs 97% (P = .3) in TCD and PTCy-Sir-MMF, respectively. Cumulative incidences of aGHVD grade II-IV, III-IV, and moderate to severe cGVHD were 11% vs 19% (P = .2), 3% vs 2% (P = .9), and 3% vs 36% (P < …

Echinostoma caproni: Differential tegumental responses to growth in compatible and less compatible hosts

2010

Abstract The topography of the tegument of Echinostoma caproni adults collected from high (mice) and low (rats) compatible hosts was compared by SEM. In the oral (OS) and the ventral sucker (VS) areas, a worm age–host species interaction was found with regard to the density of spines. There was a decrease in the density of spines in the adults collected from mice, whereas an increase occurred in the OS area in worms from rats over time. The tegumentary spines in adults from mice became larger and blunter. Some spines from the VS area in adults from mice at 4 wpi were multipointed. The spines of adults from rats were sharper, not covered by the tegument and no multipointed spines were observ…

Preventing bone loss during androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer: Early experience with neridronate

2005

Abstract Objective: Androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) is the usual treatment for locally advanced or metastatic prostate cancer. Osteoporosis is a common complication of ADT. The aim of our study was to evaluate the efficacy of neridronate, a relatively new bisphosphonate to prevent bone loss during androgen ablation. Methods: Sixty patients with prostate cancer and osteoporosis were enrolled and randomly assigned to 2 different treatment regimes: group A (30 patients) treated with maximum androgenic blockage (MAB), and group B (30 patients) treated with bicalutamide 150mg. Each group was divided in 2 subgroups A1–A2 and B1–B2. All patients received calcium and cholecalciferol supplements …

High-valent bis(oxo)-bridged dinuclear manganese oxamates: Synthesis, crystal structures, magnetic properties, and electronic structure calculations …

2007

[EN] Two novel bis(oxo)-bridged dinuclear manganese(IV) complexes with the binucleating ligand o-phenylenebis(oxamate) (opba), formulated as (Me4N)(4)[Mn2O2(opba)(2)] (1a) and (Me4N)(2)(Ph4P)(2)[Mn2O2(opba)(2)] (.) 8H(2)O (1b), have been synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically. Like the parent complex (Ph4P)(4)[Mn2O2(opba)(2)] (.) 4H(2)O (1c), they possess unique Mn-2(mu-O)(2) bridging cores with two additional o-phenylenediamidate bridges which lead to exceptionally short Mn-Mn distances (2.63-2.67 angstrom) and fairly bent Mn-O-Mn angles (93.8-95.5 degrees). Complexes 1a-c show a moderate to strong antiferromagnetic coupling between the two high-spin Mn-IV ions through…

Asymmetric Synthesis of Amino-Bis-Pyrazolone Derivatives via an Organocatalytic Mannich Reaction.

2017

A new series of N-Boc ketimines derived from pyrazolin-5-ones have been used as electrophiles in asymmetric Mannich reactions with pyrazolones. The amino-bis-pyrazolone products are obtained in excellent yields and stereoselectivities by employing a very low loading of 1 mol % of a bifunctional squaramide organocatalyst. Depending on the substitution at position 4 of the pyrazolones, the new protocol allows for the generation of one or two tetrasubstituted stereocenters, including a one-pot version combing the Mannich reaction with a base-mediated halogenation. peerReviewed

The Shwartzman reaction repealed

2007

The article, “ -Galactosylceramide induces protection against lipopolysaccharide-induced shock” (doi:10.1189/jlb.0506298), was selected as a Pivotal Advance because the results suggest that -galactosylceramide ( GalCer), a glycolipid isolated from marine sponges, can protect against the complete morbidity and mortality characterisitic of endotoxin shock by inducing NKT cells to produce TH2 cytokines.

Dispacamide E and other bioactive bromopyrrole alkaloids from two Indonesian marine sponges of the genus Stylissa.

2014

Chemical investigation of methanolic extracts of the two Indonesian marine sponges Stylissa massa and Stylissa flabelliformis yielded 25 bromopyrrole alkaloids including 2 new metabolites. The structures of all isolated compounds were unambiguously elucidated based on extensive 1D and 2D NMR, LR-MS and HR-MS analyses. All isolated compounds were assayed for their antiproliferative and protein kinase inhibitory activities. Several of the tested compounds revealed selective activity(ies) which suggested preliminary SARs of the isolated bromopyrrole alkaloids.

Self-Ordering Secondary Structure of d- and l-Arginine-Derived Polyamidoamino Acids

2017

This paper reports on synthesis, acid–base properties and pH-dependent structuring in water of d-, l- and d,l-ARGO7, bioinspired polymers obtained by polyaddition of the corresponding arginine stereoisomers with N,N′-methylenebis(acrylamide). The circular dichroism spectra of d- and l-ARGO7 showed a peak at 228 nm and quickly and reversibly responded to pH changes, but were nearly unaffected by temperature, ionic strength, and denaturating agents. Theoretical modeling studies of L-ARGO7 showed that it assumed a folded structure. Intramolecular interactions led to transoid arrangements of the main chain reminiscent of the protein hairpin motif. Torsion angles showed a quite similar distribut…
