Preparation and evaluation of butyl acrylate-based monolithic columns for CEC using ammonium peroxodisulfate as a chemical initiator.

Acrylate-ester-based monoliths for CEC using peroxodisulfate as a chemical initiator were prepared. The influence of two ternary porogenic solvents on the physical and chromatographic properties of butyl acrylate monolithic stationary phases was investigated. The composition and the ratio of porogenic solvent were adjusted to obtain highly permeable rigid monoliths with adequate column efficiency. Among the prepared butyl acrylate monoliths, those polymerized from a ternary porogenic solvent of acetonitrile/ethanol/water exhibited the most promising performance with a minimum plate height for naphthalene of 10.5 microm and a bed permeability of 7.3 x 10(-14) m(2). From ‘green’ technologies to ‘red’ antioxidant compounds extraction of purple corn: a combined ultrasound-ultrafiltration-purification approach

A pilot scale process consisting of ultrasound-assisted extraction, ammonium sulfate precipitation, cross-flow ultrafiltration and AB-8 macroporous resins purification aiming to recover anthocyanins and zein from purple corn (PC) was optimized and scaled-up. Purification of a nuclease from human serum.

The purification procedure for a nuclease from human serum is described. It includes ammonium sulfate precipitation, chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex and on Sephacryl-S 200, and preparative electrophoresis. The enzyme, purified about 2000-fold, is homogeneous in a sodium dodecyl sulfate electrophoretic system, where it has a mol. wt of 78,000. The pH optimum lies around pH 6.5; it is a sugar-nonspecific endonuclease.

Three homofermentative ( Lactobacillus plantarum B38, L. plantarum B33, Pediococcus pentosaceus B30) and three heterofermentative ( Leuconostoc mesenteroides 39, L. oenos B70, Lactobacillus brevis ) lactic acid bacteria were examined for the presence or absence of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)-dependent and NAD-independent d - and l -lactate dehydrogenases. Two of the six strains investigated, P. pentosaceus and L. oenos , did not exhibit an NAD-independent enzyme activity capable of reducing dichlorophenol indophenol. Abstract A theoretical model has been formulated which allows the processes which control the wet deposition of atmospheric aerosol particles and pollutant gases to be included in cloud dynamic models. The cloud considered in the model was allowed to grow by condensation and collision–coalescence, to remove aerosol particles by nucleation and impaction scavenging, and to remove pollutant gases by convective diffusion. The model was tested by using a simple air-parcel model as the dynamic framework. Abstract Laboratory experiments were conducted in the Mainz vertical wind tunnel to study the effects of pollutants dissolved or suspended in cloud droplets on the droplet size measurements of a Forward Scattering Spectrometer Probe (FSSP). The FSSP is a widely used instrument to derive microphysical properties of atmospheric clouds. Individual droplets of different well-defined sizes were freely falling at their terminal velocities in the wind tunnel while the intensity of radiation emitted by the He–Ne laser of the FSSP and scattered by the droplets was measured. Preparation of electrophoretic variants of Corticosteroid-binding Globulin (CBG) using liquid liquid partition chromatography

Abstract Human corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) was purified to homogeneity by application of three different chromatographic methods. After fractionation of pregnancy serum with ammonium sulfate the 80%-pellet was used for affinity chromatography based on tresyl activated Sepharose (Pharmacia, Uppsala, Sweden). The affinity eluate was injected into a Mono Q anion exchange column (Pharmacia). Abstract Cells from X.P. ∗ skin contain an RNA dependent DNA polymerase, while in cells from normal skin this enzyme is lacking. This finding stimulates the thought that carcinogenesis in X.P. cells is due to an infection with an oncogenic RNA virus.

The degradation of misfolded, aged, or no longer needed cytosolic proteins depends largely on the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Proteasomes degrade their substrates into fragments of 3-20 amino acids. Human 20S proteasomes can be purified from human erythrocytes by batch adsorption to DEAE-cellulose, ammonium sulfate precipitation, anion-exchange fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC), and glycerol density gradient ultracentrifugation. 20S proteasomes purified by this method are suitable for the in vitro digestion of synthetic peptides as well as full-length proteins.
