Homogeneous Langmuir-Blodgett Film of Double-Chain Ammonium Amphiphile Complexed with Anionic Polymer
1988
Heterogeneous textures suggesting the coexistence of a fluid and a solid phase were found both in a surface monolayer and in a deposited Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film of double-chain ammonium amphiphiles by fluorescence microscopy. Although an annealing of the surface monolayer at 40°C allowed crystal growth, the heterogeneous phase separation remained in the LB film. A drastic change of the fluorescence image shows that the recrystallization of the complexed monolayer with anionic polymers conducted the homogeneous monolayer.
Double-Shell Vesicles, Strings of Vesicles and Filaments Found in Crosslinked Micellar Solutions of Poly(1,2-butadiene)-block-poly(ethylene oxide) Di…
2001
Micellar structures of amphiphilic poly(1,2-butadiene)-block-poly(ethylene oxide) diblock copolymers have been crosslinked in aqueous solution by γ-irradiation. By transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of neganively stained specimen it is shown that the precominant structures present are sopolymer sesicles (which appear to be double latered. These fived vesules are stable with respect to their share and can be transferred from water into a good solvent for blue filbeks, such as tetrahydrofuran, this demonstrating the effectiveness of the crosslinking. In addition to the resicles a small number of flexible cylindrichl/filimented structures sequentially fused vesicles/strings of vesicles and…
Micelles of Polysoaps: The Role of Bridging Interactions
1996
Polysoaps, hydrophilic polymers incorporating amphiphilic monomers, form intrachain micelles in aqueous media. The micelles are similar to those formed by monomeric amphiphiles but are also endowed with a swollen, starlike corona formed by the spacer chains joining the amphiphiles. Long polysoaps form strings comprising many intrachain micelles. Exchange of amphiphiles between such micelles may give rise to bridging attraction, resulting in the adoption of a collapsed configuration in which the swollen micelles are close packed into a spherical globule. Upon addition of free amphiphiles, this structure unravels in a highly nonlinear fashion. Titration by surfactants, and the resulting swell…
Amphiphilic Polysaccharide Block Copolymers for pH-Responsive Micellar Nanoparticles
2017
A full polysaccharide amphiphilic block copolymer was prepared from end group-functionalized dextrans using copper-mediated azide-alkyne click chemistry. Sufficient modification of the reducing end in both blocks was achieved by microwave-enhanced reductive amination in a borate-buffer/methanol solvent system. The combination of a hydrophilic dextran block with a hydrophobic acetalated dextran block results in an amphiphilic structure that turns water-soluble upon acid treatment. The material has a low critical micelle concentration and self-assembles in water to spherical micellar nanoparticles. The formed nanoparticles have a narrow size distribution below 70 nm in diameter and disassembl…
Composite Hydrogels of Alkyl Functionalized Gellan Gum Derivative and Hydroxyapatite/Tricalcium Phosphate Nanoparticles as Injectable Scaffolds for b…
2021
An alkyl functionalized gellan gum derivative was here used to produce hydrogels containing hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate nanoparticles as injectable nanostructured scaffolds for bone regeneration. The amphiphilic nature of the polysaccharide derivative along with its thermotropic behavior and ionotropic crosslinking features made possible to produce injectable bone mimetic scaffolds that can be used to release viable cells and osteoinductive biomolecules. The influence of different nanoparticles concentration on the rheological and physicochemical properties of the injectable systems was studied. We found that the presence of inorganic nanoparticles reinforces the three-dimension…
Resorcinarene bis-crown silver complexes and their application as antibacterial Langmuir-Blodgett films
2012
Silver complexes of a cation binding supramolecular host, resorcinarene bis-crown (CNBC5) with propyl, nonyl, decyl and undecyl alkyl chains were investigated by NMR titration, picrate extraction and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Binding studies showed that both 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 (host-Ag(+)) complexes are present in solution with only a slight effect of the lower rim alkyl chain length on the binding constants (log K 4.0-4.2 for 1 : 2 complexes). Solid state complexes of the resorcinarene bis-crowns bearing either C(3) or C(11) chains were obtained. Single crystal X-ray analyses showed that both derivatives bind silver ions by metal-arene and Ag···O coordination from the crown ether brid…
Cation binding resorcinarene bis-crowns: the effect of lower rim alkyl chain length on crystal packing and solid lipid nanoparticles
2012
A group of seven resorcinarene bis-crown ethers (CNBC5) with two polyether bridges at the upper rim and either propyl, butyl, pentyl, heptyl, nonyl, decyl or undecyl groups at the lower rim were synthesized and their binding properties with Cs+ were investigated by NMR titration. The bis-crowns form 1:2 complexes with Cs+ with binding constants of logK 4–5. Crystal structures of bis-crowns and their Cs+ and K+ complexes were studied and different packing motifs were found depending on the alkyl chain length. Short ethyl, propyl and butyl alkyl chains gave a layer or pillar packing where the polar and non-polar regions cannot be distinguished, whereas longer pentyl and decyl chains formed bi…
Lipid Bilayer Interactions of Peptidic Supramolecular Polymers and Their Impact on Membrane Permeability and Stability.
2020
The synthesis and physicochemical characterization of supramolecular polymers with tunable assembly profiles offer exciting opportunities, involving the development of new biomedical carriers. Because synthetic nanocarriers aim to transport substances across or toward cellular membranes, we evaluated the interactions of amphiphilic peptide-based supramolecular polymers with lipid bilayers. Here, we focused on nanorod-like supramolecular polymers, obtained from two C3-symmetric dendritic peptide amphiphiles with alternating Phe/His sequences, equipped with a peripheral tetraethylene glycol dendron (C3-PH) or charged ethylenediamine end groups (C3-PH+). Triggered by pH changes, these amphiphi…
Hyaluronic acid based nanohydrogels fabricated by microfluidics for the potential targeted release of Imatinib: Characterization and preliminary eval…
2019
Abstract Microfluidics is emerging as an innovative technique for the “on chip” fabrication of nanoparticles for drug delivery applications. Here, by using an amphiphilic derivative of hyaluronic acid as a starting macromolecule, nanohydrogels loaded with Imatinib were produced by the microfluidic procedure in order to develop an innovative therapeutic tool for the treatment of retinal neovascularization. Both cyRGDC functionalized and non-functionalized nanohydrogels were designed and fabricated by using the same technique. The targeting efficiency of the obtained nanosystems was studied in vitro on human retinal pigment epithelial cells (HRPEpiC) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells…
Nanocarriers for antioxidant resveratrol: formulation approach, vesicle self-assembly and stability evaluation.
2013
In this work we studied various nanoformulations of resveratrol in phospholipid vesicles. Conventional phophatidylcholine liposomes were prepared and characterized in parallel with PEVs (Penetration Enhancer-containing Vesicles) obtained by adding one of eight selected amphiphilic penetration enhancers (PEs; 0.2% w/v; HLB range 1-16) to the composition. All vesicles were around 100 nm, negatively charged (∼-30 mV) and able to incorporate resveratrol in good yields (>74%). The structure and the lamellar self-organization of the vesicles were investigated by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Small and Wide Angle X-ray Scattering (SWAXS). These analyses showed that the lamellarity of …
