Scattering Amplitudes from Superconformal Ward Identities

We consider finite superamplitudes of N=1 matter, and use superconformal symmetry to derive powerful first-order differential equations for them. Because of on-shell collinear singularities, the Ward identities have an anomaly, which is obtained from lower-loop information. We show that in the five-particle case, the solution to the equations is uniquely fixed by the expected analytic behavior. We apply the method to a nonplanar two-loop five-particle integral. Search forB±→[K∓π±]DK±and Upper Limit on theb→uAmplitude inB±→DK±

We search for B±→[K∓π±]DK± decays, where [K∓π±]D indicates that the K∓π± pair originates from the decay of a D0 or D 0. Results are based on 120×106 Υ(4S)→BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. We set an upper limit on the ratio RKπ≡ [Γ(B+→[K-π+]DK+)+Γ(B-→[K+π-]DK-)]/[Γ(B+→[K+π-]DK+)+Γ(B-→[K-π+]DK-)]<0.026 (90%   C.L.). This constrains the amplitude ratio rB≡ |A(B-→D 0K-)/A(B-→D0K-)|<0.22 (90% C.L.), consistent with expectations. The small value of rB favored by our analysis suggests that the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase γ from B→DK will be difficult.

Constraining the p -Mode– g -Mode Tidal Instability with GW170817

We analyze the impact of a proposed tidal instability coupling p modes and g modes within neutron stars on GW170817. This nonresonant instability transfers energy from the orbit of the binary to internal modes of the stars, accelerating the gravitational-wave driven inspiral. We model the impact of this instability on the phasing of the gravitational wave signal using three parameters per star: An overall amplitude, a saturation frequency, and a spectral index. Incorporating these additional parameters, we compute the Bayes factor (lnB!pgpg) comparing our p-g model to a standard one. P -wave nucleon-pion scattering amplitude in the Δ(1232) channel from lattice QCD

We determine the $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}(1232)$ resonance parameters using lattice QCD and the L\"uscher method. The resonance occurs in elastic pion-nucleon scattering with ${J}^{P}=3/{2}^{+}$ in the isospin $I=3/2$, $P$-wave channel. Our calculation is performed with ${N}_{f}=2+1$ flavors of clover fermions on a lattice with $L\ensuremath{\approx}2.8\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{fm}$. The pion and nucleon masses are ${m}_{\ensuremath{\pi}}=255.4(1.6)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ and ${m}_{N}=1073(5)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$, respectively, and the strong decay channel $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}N$ is found to be above the threshold. Microlensing and Intrinsic Variability of the Broad Emission Lines of Lensed Quasars

We study the broad emission lines in a sample of 11 gravitationally lensed quasars with at least two epochs of observation to identify intrinsic variability and to disentangle it from microlensing. To improve our statistical significance and emphasize trends, we also include 15 lens systems with single-epoch spectra. Mg ii and C iii] emission lines are only weakly affected by microlensing, but C iv shows strong microlensing in some cases, even for regions of the line core, presumably associated with small projected velocities. Progress in three-particle scattering from LQCD

We present the status of our formalism for extracting three-particle scattering observables from lattice QCD (LQCD). The method relies on relating the discrete finite-volume spectrum of a quantum field theory with its scattering amplitudes. As the finite-volume spectrum can be directly determined in LQCD, this provides a method for determining scattering observables, and associated resonance properties, from the underlying theory. In a pair of papers published over the last two years, two of us have extended this approach to apply to relativistic three-particle scattering states. Two-photon exchange corrections to elastic e− -proton scattering: Full dispersive treatment of πN states at low momentum transfers

We evaluate the pion-nucleon intermediate-state contribution to the two-photon exchange (TPE) correction in the elastic electron-nucleon scattering within a dispersive framework. We calculate the contribution from all $\ensuremath{\pi}N$ partial waves using the MAID parametrization. We provide the corresponding TPE correction to the unpolarized $ep$ scattering cross section in the region of low momentum transfer ${Q}^{2}\ensuremath{\lesssim}0.064\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}$, where no analytical continuation into the unphysical region of the TPE scattering amplitudes is required. Beam normal spin asymmetry for the ep→eΔ(1232) process

We calculate the single spin asymmetry for the $e p \to e \Delta(1232)$ process, for an electron beam polarized normal to the scattering plane. Such single spin asymmetries vanish in the one-photon exchange approximation, and are directly proportional to the absorptive part of a two-photon exchange amplitude. As the intermediate state in such two-photon exchange process is on its mass shell, the asymmetry allows one to access for the first time the on-shell $\Delta \to \Delta$ as well as $N^\ast \to \Delta$ electromagnetic transitions. The evolved pulsating CEMP star HD112869

Radial velocity measurements, $BVR_C$ photometry, and high-resolution spectroscopy in the wavelength region from blue to near infrared are employed in order to clarify the evolutionary status of the carbon-enhanced metal-poor star HD112869 with unique ratio of carbon isotopes in the atmosphere. An LTE abundance analysis was carried out using the method of spectral synthesis and new self consistent 1D atmospheric models. The radial velocity monitoring confirmed semiregular variations with a peak-to-peak amplitude of about 10 km $s^{-1}$ and a dominating period of about 115 days. EUV FLICKERING OF SOLAR CORONAL LOOPS: A NEW DIAGNOSTIC OF CORONAL HEATING

A previous work of ours found the best agreement between EUV light curves observed in an active region core (with evidence of super-hot plasma) and those predicted from a model with a random combination of many pulse-heated strands with a power-law energy distribution. We extend that work by including spatially resolved strand modeling and by studying the evolution of emission along the loops in the EUV 94 angstrom and 335 angstrom channels of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on board the Solar Dynamics Observatory.
