The aim of this work was to investigate the potential use of non-conventional technologies (microwaves, ultrasounds, pulsed electric fields, and high voltage electrical discharges) to enhance the extraction of high-added value compounds (mainly stevioside and rebaudioside A), and antioxidants (total phenolic compounds, flavonoids, chlorophylls, and carotenoids), from Stevia rebaudiana leaves. After treatment at equivalent energy, a supplementary diffusion was performed until 1 h. The results of elastic, quasielastic, and inelastic neutron-scattering studies on polycrystalline CeM 2 Ge 2 (M=Ag, Au, and Ru) are presented. All compounds reveal long-range magnetic order at low temperatures. Ferromagnetic (M=Ru), antiferromagnetic (M=Au), and incommensurate (M=Ag) structures were detected. Using time-of-flight (TOF) techniques, the crystalline electric-field splittings were determined. The purpose of this work is to establish and discuss quantitative relationships between the selectivity in preparative scale electrolysis and intrinsic and operational parameters for the electrocarboxylation of aromatic ketones. For the investigated ketones, under appopriate experimental conditions the selectivity of the process is mainly determined by the competition between carboxylation and protonation, de-halogenation reactions (when an halogenated ketone is involved), and possibly dimerizations involving the electrogenerated radical anion. A discussion of the general properties of the one-dimensional electron density correlation function K(z) of a partially crystalline polymer with lamellar structure shows that application of a graphical extrapolation procedure permits direct determination of the crystallinity, the specific inner surface, and the electron density difference ηc − ηa. The procedure is based upon the occurrence of a straight section in the “self-correlation” range of K(z). Curved and nonparallel lamellae do not invalidate the concept. Growth and characterization of GdxHg1−xSe crystals

Abstract The growth of GdxHg1−xSe crystals by the vertical Bridgman method was studied in the composition range 0⩽x⩽0.1. The structural and electronic properties of GdxHg1−xSe crystals were investigated as a function of composition. It was found that an increase in gadolinium content up to x=0.01 results in a decrease of structural defects and an increase in electron mobility up to the maximum value of μ77≈2.8×105 cm2/V s. Structural defects start to increase at x>0.01, and the formation of Gd2Se3 amorphous phase takes place at x>0.03. Using laser Doppler velocimetry in the superheterodyne mode, we conducted a systematic study of the electrophoretic mobility of dispersions of small silica spheres (a=18 nm) suspended in water at different salinities and particle concentrations. The concentration of NaCl was varied from 40 microM up to 16 mM, while the particle concentrations were varied between 4.2x10(18) and 2.1x10(20) m-3. We find a decrease of mobility with increasing salt concentrations and an increase with increased particle number densities. A method for the rapid classification of proteases, lipases, amylases and cellulases used as enhancers in cleaning products, based on precipitation with acetone, hydrolysis with HCl, dilution of the hydrolysates with ethanol, and direct infusion into the electrospray ion source of an ion-trap mass spectrometer, has been developed. Mass spectrometry methodology to characterize drying oil used as binding media and varnishes in pictorial artworks, prior to conservation or restoration treatment, is proposed. The analytical treatment requires prior basic hydrolysis of the samples to release the fatty acids : caprylic, pelargonic, capric, sebacic, azelaic, suberic, eicosanoic, lauric, mirystic, palmitic, linolenic, linoleic, oleic and stearic, followed by separation from the matrix by a hexane/water extraction. Encapsulation of secondary and tertiary ammonium salts by resorcinarenes and pyrogallarenes: the effect of size and charge concentration

The binding of different categories of alkyl ammonium (secondary and tertiary mono- and di-ammonium) salts with resorcinarenes and a pyrogallarene through weak interactions was analysed in all phases. 1H NMR spectroscopy and electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry were utilized in analysing the complexes in solution and in the gas phase, respectively. The 1H NMR titration studies in methanol-d4 reveal that the association constants for the 1:1 complexes vary according to the electronic properties of the hosts as well as the size, geometric orientation and charge concentration of the guest cations with binding constants of up to 950 M−1 in some cases.
