Enantiomeric separation of amino acids by capillary electrophoresis with α-cyclodextrin

A simple method for separation of underivatized aromatic amino acid enantiomers is presented. The influence of α-cyclodextrin concentration, applied voltage and background buffer pH on the separation were investigated to achieve the best conditions of separation.

Studies on the possible use of phosphate and phosphonate esters bearing chiral menthol or nopol moieties as carriers for the transport of amines, amino acids, and amino acid esters through supported liquid membranes (SLM) are presented. Additionally, the enantioselectivity of the SLM transport of alkyl esters of aromatic amino acids and a non‐protein amino acid was also evaluated. It could be concluded that the extent of transport strongly depends on the hydrophobicity of the amino compound. Concentration of amino acids using supported liquid membranes with di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid as a carrier

Abstract Basic studies of a procedure for extraction of amino acids using a supported liquid membrane containing di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid are presented. The extractions are made from an aqueous donor phase with pH 3 to a more acidic acceptor phase and the mass transfer is driven by the proton gradient between these phases. For 0.01 mM tryptophan and with 1 M HCl as acceptor phase, an extraction efficiency of 60% is obtained, constant up to at least 12 h. This permits concentration enrichment factors linearly increasing with time up to values of at least 150. For higher amino acid concentrations, the extraction efficiency is constant only over shorter time intervals.
Unsaturated fatty acid bioconversion by apple pomace enzyme system. Factors influencing the production of aroma compounds

Productions of volatile compounds (hexanal and 2,4-decadienal) obtained from polyunsaturated fatty acids by action of specific apple pomace enzyme system were quantitatively improved by increasing substrate and enzyme concentrations in the reaction medium. The importance of an exogenous supply of oxygen during bioconversion was also shown. Some physico-chemical factors involved in the pomace enzyme system expression were screened. A temperature of 25°C was favourable to the bioconversion. The control of alkaline or acidic conditions in the reaction medium may orientate the reaction preferentially to the production of one or other aldehyde.
Isolation and identification of roseotoxin S from cultures of the fungus Trichothecium roseum

The structure of reseotoxin S, a new cyclodepsipeptide of the fungus Trichothecium roseum, is described. It consists of three amino acids and two hydroxy acids. Besides the structure, possibilities of proof and isolation as well as analytical data are given.

The extracellular matrix consists of four major components, namely collagens, elastin, proteoglyeans and glycoproteins. Collagens are important members of the ECM, forming a family of at least t 3 different structurally related proteins. Tenascin, synonymous with cytoactin, hexabrachion and J1, is a new member of matrix glycoproteins with a molecular mass of 1200 kD. Inspired from the funtioning and responsiveness of biological ion channels, researchers attempt to develop biosensing systems based on polymer and solid-state nanochannels. The applicability of these nanochannels for detection/sensing of any foreign analyte in the surrounding environment depends critically on the surface characteristics of the inner walls. Fatty acid composition of a cultured sturgeon hybrid (×)

Abstract Analyses of fatty acids from the dorsal muscle of Acipenser naccarii × A. baerii sturgeon hybrid were carried out. The data were compared with those reported in the literature for other sturgeons reared for human consumption. This hybrid would seem to be of great nutritional interest, its flesh being more beneficial for human health than those of other cultured sturgeons. In fact, the level of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) was very high (34.7 ± 0.67%), being similar to that of monounsaturated fatty acids (37.9 ± 0.83%).
