Fragmentations and reactions of protonated O,O-dimethyl ethylphosphonate and some isotopomers produced by electrospray ionisation in an ion trap mass…

2008

Abstract The fragmentation behaviour of protonated O , O -dimethyl ethylphosphonate and its isotopomers deuterated in the α- and β-positions of the ethyl group and their fragment ions, particulary EtP(O)OMe + ( IV ), have been investigated both experimentally in an ion trap mass spectrometer and theoretically by electronic structure calculations at the B3LYP level. Of particular interest is the finding that the phosphonium ion IV eliminates ethene with hydrogen/deuterium loss from both the α-and β-positions. The initial step for both routes involves ethyl migration from P to O to form the ion MeOP + OEt which then loses ethene by two mechanisms, both of which lead to the same products. That…

Solid phase extraction materials as a key for improving the accuracy of silver nanoparticle characterization with single-particle inductively coupled…

2022

The accurate characterization of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in environmental samples is crucial for understanding the potential impact of these materials on the environment and human health. Single-particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (spICP-MS) is one of the few techniques available for quantifying NPs at environmentally relevant concentrations. However, the spICP-MS detection of Ag NPs can be interfered with coexisting dissolved analyte causing high background signals, which mask NP signals leading to a significant bias in NP characterization. In this paper, a simple sample pre-treatment procedure for efficient removal of dissolved silver in natural waters is proposed …

Preconcentration and speciation analysis of mercury : 3D printed metal scavenger-based solid-phase extraction followed by analysis with inductively c…

2021

A selective method for preconcentration and determination of methylmercury (MeHg) and inorganic mercury (iHg) in natural water samples at the ng L−1 level has been developed. The method involves adsorption of Hg species into a 3D printed metal scavenger and sequential elution with acidic thiourea solutions before ICP-MS determination. Experimental parameters affecting the preconcentration of MeHg and iHg such as the sample matrix, effect of the flow rate on adsorption, eluent composition, and elution mode have been studied in detail. The obtained method detection limits, considering the preconcentration factors of 42 and 93, were found to be 0.05 ng L−1 and 0.08 ng L−1 for MeHg and iHg, res…

Failure Load and Collapse Mode of an RC Beam in a Large Collapsed Roof

2021

The present work focused on the determination of the collapse load and of the failure mode of a collapsed framed structure constructed in the South of Italy and failed in 2004 under its self-weight. Information available was the results on extensive experimental test campaign, for the determination of mechanical properties of concrete and steel bars of beams, floors and columns involved in the failure. Moreover, draws of original design with construction details and design rules valid in Italy at the time of construction were found. A simple monodimensional beam model for prediction of load-deflection curve, able to include degradation of constituent materials (concrete, steel and bond) was…

Influence of odorant metabolism on human olfactory perception

2018

The sense of smell permits the perception of volatile substances commonly known as odors. This sense plays an important role in the feeding and wellness of individuals because it involves exchanges with their environment (search for food or partners, predators detection…). The efficiency of the olfactory system mainly relies on its sensitivity depending on the odorant affinity for their olfactory receptors but also on an enzymatic clearance mechanism of odorants which involves the Odorant metabolizing Enzymes (OME) to avoid the saturation of the receptors. Recent studies have shown that the biotransformation of odorants by EMO, in the olfactory epithelium, participates in the olfactory perc…

EL MIEDO EN EDUCACIÓN FÍSICA: UNA HISTORIA RECONOCIBLE

2017

Dating archaeological strata in the Magna Mater temple using solid-state voltammetric analysis of leaded bronze coins

2017

[EN] The application of solid state electrochemistry techniques for dating archaeological strata using lead-containing bronze coins is described. The proposed methodology was applied to samples coming from the Roman archaeological site of Magna Mater Temple (Rome, Italy) occurring in different strata dating back between the second half and the end of the 4(th) century A.D. and the 20(th) century. The voltammetric signatures of copper and lead corrosion products in contact with aqueous acetate buffer, as well as the catalytic effects produced on the hydrogen evolution reaction, were used for establishing the age of different strata and dating coins belonging to unknown age. Voltammetric data…

Zein as biodegradable material for effective delivery of alkaline phosphatase and substrates in biokits and biosensors

2016

A biodegradable material, zein, is proposed as a reagent delivery platform for biokits and biosensors based on alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity/inhibition in the presence of phosphatase substrates. The immobilization and release of both the substrate and/or the active ALP, in a biodegradable and low-cost material such as zein, a prolamin from maize, and in combination with glycerol as plasticizer have been investigated. Three zein-based devices are proposed for several applications: (1) inorganic phosphorus estimation in water of different sources (river, lake, coastal water and tap water) with a detection limit of 0.2mg/L - compared to at least 1mg/L required by legislation, (2) estimat…

Apparent content curves: new analytical applications

1993

Analytical possibilities of apparent content curves for ternary systems are studied. The mathematical method proposed is applied to UV-Vis spectrophotometric and fluorimetric techniques. Samples containing fluoresceine/eosine/acridine and methyl red/methyl orange/cresol red are resolved by fluorimetry and UV-spectroscopy, respectively. Results obtained are in agreement with the theoretical contents in both cases.
