Residual water and electrical properties of polyaniline

The work aims to study the mechanism of interaction between water molecules and polyaniline (PANI) backbone as an important constituent of acid-base transformations ensuring good conductive properties of PANI. Experiments have been made using chemically synthesized emeraldine base subjected to different chemical treatments and aging procedures. Thermogravimetric measurement have shown that water content in polymeric matrices may amount up to 20-25 wt.% with two distinguished reversible absorbance states of water molecules. Recognition of oxovanadium(V) species and its separation from other metal species through selective complexation by some acyclic ligands

Acyclic molecules possessing –OH (phenoxo and alkoxo type) groups and imine or amine moieties have been developed to sense the specific preference for VO3+ species. These molecules also showed a capability to quantitatively separate oxovanadium(V) species from a reaction mixture containing metal species of V, Mo, U, Fe, and Mn ions in solution. A cascade quantitative separation of VO3+ followed by cis–MoO2+2 followed by trans –UO2+2 species is demonstrated from their mixture. Synthesis and structural details of oxo-species of vanadium molybdenum and uranium are also discussed. Factors influencing the complexation of these molecules towards oxo metal species of V, Mo and U are also addressed.

Effects of leflunomide (HWA 486) on expression of lymphocyte activation markers

Leflunomide (HWA 486), an isoxazol derivative, has been shown to be very effective in combating autoimmune diseases and transplantation rejection in a great number of animal models. The main metabolite of leflunomide, A77 1726, is a potent antiproliferative compound. To further elucidate this effect, lymphocytes of healthy human donors were cultured for 24, 48 or 72 h in the presence of PHA or immobilized anti-CD3 antibody. A77 1726 was added at concentrations between 10 and 100 microM. The accuracy of sentinel lymph node biopsy in the treatment of multicentric invasive breast cancer using a subareolar injection of tracer.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and the accuracy of sentinel lymph node biopsy in multicentric breast cancer (MBC) performed by means of a subareolar (SA) injection of both 99Tc-labeled human albumin colloid and lymphazurin. METHODS: Between January 2002 and October 2007, 34 patients with MBC with clinically negative axilla underwent sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) followed by total axillary node dissection (AD). Overall successful identification rate of SLN was 100%; there were no false negatives and overall accuracy rate was 100%. Effect of 3,4-dichloroaniline on the early life stages of the zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio): results of a comparative laboratory study.

An early life-stage (ELS) test was conducted with the zebrafish and 3,4-dichloroaniline (3,4-DCA) in eight laboratories. Based on the results from all eight laboratories, an LOEC of 200 micrograms 3,4-dichloroaniline/liter applies for the early life stages of the zebrafish. Effects observed were reduction of the survival rate and malformations. If the 100 micrograms/liter concentration additionally tested by one laboratory is included in the assessment, an LOEC of 100 micrograms 3,4-DCA/liter is obtained for the survival rate and increase in length. Hormonal regulation of S-adenosylmethionine synthase transcripts in pea ovaries

Two cDNA clones coding for S-adenosyl-L-methionine synthase (SAMs, EC 2.5.1.6) have been isolated from a cDNA library of gibberellic acid-treated unpollinated pea ovaries. Both cDNAs were sequenced showing a high degree of identity but coding for different SAMs polypeptides. The presence of two SAMs genes in pea was further confirmed by Southern analysis. Expression of the SAMs genes in the pea plant was found at different levels in vegetative and reproductive tissues. Nitroanilines as Quenchers of Pyrene Fluorescence

The quenching of pyrene and 1‐methylpyrene fluorescence by nitroanilines (NAs), such as 2‐, 3‐, and 4‐nitroaniline (2‐NA, 3‐NA, and 4‐NA, respectively), 4‐methyl‐3‐nitroaniline (4‐M‐3‐NA), 2‐methyl‐4‐nitroaniline (2‐M‐4‐NA), and 4‐methyl‐3,5‐dinitroaniline (4‐M‐3,5‐DNA), are studied in toluene and 1,4‐dioxane. Steady‐state fluorescence data show the higher efficiency of the 4‐NAs as quenchers and fit with a sphere‐of‐action model.
