Sturmian words and overexponential codimension growth

2018

Abstract Let A be a non necessarily associative algebra over a field of characteristic zero satisfying a non-trivial polynomial identity. If A is a finite dimensional algebra or an associative algebra, it is known that the sequence c n ( A ) , n = 1 , 2 , … , of codimensions of A is exponentially bounded. If A is an infinite dimensional non associative algebra such sequence can have overexponential growth. Such phenomenon is present also in the case of Lie or Jordan algebras. In all known examples the smallest overexponential growth of c n ( A ) is ( n ! ) 1 2 . Here we construct a family of algebras whose codimension sequence grows like ( n ! ) α , for any real number α with 0 α 1 .

Mappings of finite distortion : size of the branch set

2018

Abstract We study the branch set of a mapping between subsets of ℝ n {\mathbb{R}^{n}} , i.e., the set where a given mapping is not defining a local homeomorphism. We construct several sharp examples showing that the branch set or its image can have positive measure.

Fixed point theorems for multivalued maps via new auxiliary function

2016

We introduce a contractive condition involving new auxiliary function and prove a fixed point theorem for closed multivalued maps on complete metric spaces. An example and an application to integral equation are given in support of our findings.

Extended Natural Numbers and Counters

2020

Summary This article introduces extended natural numbers, i.e. the set ℕ ∪ {+∞}, in Mizar [4], [3] and formalizes a way to list a cardinal numbers of cardinals. Both concepts have applications in graph theory.

Identification of multiplicatively acting modulatory mutational signatures in cancer

2022

Abstract Background A deep understanding of carcinogenesis at the DNA level underpins many advances in cancer prevention and treatment. Mutational signatures provide a breakthrough conceptualisation, as well as an analysis framework, that can be used to build such understanding. They capture somatic mutation patterns and at best identify their causes. Most studies in this context have focused on an inherently additive analysis, e.g. by non-negative matrix factorization, where the mutations within a cancer sample are explained by a linear combination of independent mutational signatures. However, other recent studies show that the mutational signatures exhibit non-additive interactions. Resu…

Singular solutions to a quasilinear ODE

2005

In this paper, we prove the existence of infinitely many radial solutions having a singular behaviour at the origin for a superlinear problem of the form $-\Delta_pu=|u|^{\delta-1}u$ in $B(0,1)\setminus\{0\}\subset\mathbb R^N$,\, $u=0$ for $|x|=1$, where $N>p>1$ and $\delta>p-1$. Solutions are characterized by their nodal properties. The case $\delta+1 <\frac{Np}{N-p}$ is treated. The study of the singularity is based on some energy considerations and takes into account the classification of the behaviour of the possible solutions available in the literature. By following a shooting approach, we are able to deduce the main multiplicity result from some estimates on the rotation numbers asso…

Preface

2018

This issue of Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems-Series S focuses on the qualitative analysis of some concrete nonlinear problems, e.g., ordinary, partial differential equations, systems and inclusions. The ten contributions collected here give an overview on some very recent results on the existence, multiplicity and sign information of the solutions of a wide range of nonlinear differential problems involving different boundary value conditions and operators in divergence form. In our opinion, the synergy pointed out here between the classical nonlinear analysis methods, like the critical point theory, sub-super solutions methods, truncation and comparison techniques, Morse theory,…

Research of smart car's speed control based on the internal model control

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/274293 Open Access Based on analyzing principle about the smart car's speed control system, the system mathematical model is built. Considering the control optimization, a novel control scheme is proposed based on internal model control, and the internal model controller of speed control system is established. Regarding this subject, the internal control theory is introduced to verify the control performance; the traditional PID control method is employed in the experiment. The experiment indicates that the proposed method based on internal mode…

Ejection and collision orbits of the spatial restricted three-body problem

1985

We begin by describing the global flow of the spatial two body rotating problem, μ=0. The remainder of the work is devoted to study the ejection and collision orbits when μ>-0. We make use of the ‘blow up’ techniques to show that for any fixed value of the Jacobian constant the set of these orbits is diffeomorphic to S2×R. Also we find some particular collision-ejection orbits.
