Abstract The YWP1 gene encoding a specific mycelial cell wall protein of Yarrowia lipolytica has been cloned and expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using different episomal plasmids. Because the plasmids pYAE35BB and pYAE35ES carrying the YWP1 gene (including the 5′ noncoding promoter sequences) failed to express it, the YWP1 gene was cloned under the control of GAL/CYC or ACT S. cerevisiae promoters. A main band with an apparent molecular mass of 70 kDa was detected by immunoblotting in the cell wall fraction of transformants. Ywp1 processing and incorporation to the cell wall were similar in both Y. lipolytica and S. cerevisiae but not in its final localization in the cell wall. In Y. …

ABSTRACT Cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease after bone marrow (BM) transplantation is often associated with BM graft failure. There are two possible reasons for such a correlation. First, a poor hematopoietic reconstitution of unrelated etiology could promote the progression of CMV infection by the lack of immune control. Alternatively, CMV infection could interfere with the engraftment of donor BM cells in recipient BM stroma. Evidence for a causative role of CMV in BM aplasia came from studies in long-term BM cultures and from the murine in vivo model of CMV-induced aplastic anemia. Spinning neutron stars asymmetric with respect to their rotation axis are potential sources of continuous gravitational waves for ground-based interferometric detectors. In the case of known pulsars a fully coherent search, based on matched filtering, which uses the position and rotational parameters obtained from electromagnetic observations, can be carried out. Matched filtering maximizes the signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio, but a large sensitivity loss is expected in case of even a very small mismatch between the assumed and the true signal parameters. Chromosomenuntersuchungen aus Lymphocyten und Knochenmark von Psoriasis-Kranken nach Langzeitbehandlung mit Methotrexat

4 Psoriasis-Patienten, 3 davon mit zuruckliegender Arsenexposition, hatten Gesamtmengen zwischen 570 und 2735 mg Methotrexat erhalten. Bei diesen Patienten wurden Chromosomendarstellungen aus dem Knochenmark und aus Lymphocytenkulturen durchgefuhrt. Im Knochenmark (ohne Kultur in vitro) fanden sich keine eindeutigen Aberrationen, wahrend in den Lymphocyten in 2 Fallen gehauft (24%) ein Chromosom regellos fehlte, und bei einem Patienten einzelne Bruche zu finden waren. Soweit aus diesen Beobachtungen in Verbindung mit den Daten der Literatur Schlusse gezogen werden durfen, werden sie bezuglich der Chromosomenmutationen diskutiert.

HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS A 58-year-old patient suffered from rapidly progressing renal insufficiency and 11 kg weight-loss three months after adjuvant treatment of a carcinoma of the lower bowel (G 2 T 3 N 1 M 0 ) with mitomycine C. At the point of hospitalisation the patient was anuric while suffering from pulmonary oedema, hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia. INVESTIGATIONS Computed tomography and bronchial endoscopy showed pulmonary haemorrhage. Recurrence of carcinoma or metastases were excluded. Renal biopsy revealed mesangiolysis and concentric intimaproliferation (onion skinning). Beside haemolytic anaemia and fragmentocytes toxic damage of the bone marrow was found. TREATMENT…
