Considerazioni tassonomiche e cariologiche sulle popolazioni siciliane di Sternbergia colchiciflora Waldst. & Kit. (Amaryllidaceae)

2004

A citotaxonomic study on two Sicilian populations of Sternbergia colchiciflora from Madonie and Mt. Etna was carried out. They show marked differences in their morphology and caryology. This suggests to treat them as two distinct taxa, but their correct taxonomic position needs further investigation on other populations of Sternbergia colchiciflora from Mediterranean area

Chemical Characterization and Cytotoxic and Antioxidant Activity Evaluation of the Ethanol Extract from the Bulbs of Pancratium maritimun Collected i…

2023

P. maritimum L., belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family, is a species that grows on beaches and coastal sand dunes mainly on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea, the Middle East, and up to the Caucasus region. It has been largely investigated due to its several interesting biological properties. With the aim of providing new insights into the phytochemistry and pharmacology of this species, the ethanolic extract of the bulbs from a local accession, not previously studied, growing in Sicily (Italy), was investigated. This chemical analysis, performed by mono- and bi-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, as well as LC-DAD-MSn, allowed to identify several alkaloids, three of which were n…

Tuning the selectivity of molecularly imprinted polymer extraction of arylcyclohexylamines: From class-selective to specific

2020

Abstract A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) has been prepared in presence of 3-hydroxy phencyclidine (3-OH PCP) as template by bulk polymerization using N,N-dimethylformamide, as porogenic solvent, for the selective solid-phase extraction (SPE) of arylcyclohexylamines from oral fluids. Experimental variables of the extraction procedure have been studied in order to increase both, extraction recovery of 3-OH PCP, used as model analyte, and imprinting factor. By modifying the composition of the washing solvent, the selectivity of the MIP extraction procedure can be tuned, moving from an arylcyclohexylamine selective method to a 3-OH PCP specific method. The applicability of the synthesized…

Simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of calcium and magnesium in mineral waters by means of multivariate partial least-squares regression.

1997

A method for simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of calcium and magnesium in mineral waters using multivariate calibration methods is proposed. The method is based on the development of the reaction between the analytes and Methylthymol Blue at pH 11. Two operational modes were used: static (spectral information) and flow injection (FI) (spectral and kinetic information). The selection of variables was studied. A series of synthetic solutions containing different concentrations of calcium and magnesium were used to check the prediction ability of the partial least-squares models. The method was applied to the analysis of mineral waters and the results were compared with those obta…

Theoretical study on the influence of electric field direction on the photovoltaic performance of aryl amine organic dyes for dye-sensitized solar ce…

2019

It is very important to reveal the influence of different electric field directions on dye sensitizers. Thus, in this study, we investigated the electronic structures and optical properties of six designed aryl amine organic dye models under different electric fields using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). Moreover, the electronic structures and optical properties of these studied dyes with different electric field in tetrahydrofuran (THF) were also calculated. The key parameters of the short-circuit current density (Jsc), including light harvesting efficiency (LHE) and intra-molecular charge transfer (ICT), are discussed in detail. With …

Ring splitting of azetidin-2-ones via radical anions

2012

The radical anions of azetidin-2-ones, generated by UV-irradiation in the presence of triethylamine, undergo ring-splitting via N-C4 or C3-C4 bond breaking, leading to open-chain amides. This reactivity diverges from that found for the neutral excited states, which is characterised by alpha-cleavage. The preference for beta-cleavage is supported by DFT theoretical calculations on the energy barriers associated with the involved transition states. Thus, injection of one electron into the azetidin-2-one moiety constitutes a complementary activation strategy which may be exploited to produce new chemistry.

Sterically geared tris-thioureas; transmembrane chloride transporters with unusual activity and accessibility

2015

Tris-N-arylthioureas derived in one step from 1,3,5-tris(aminomethyl)-2,4,6-triethylbenzene are remarkably effective anion carriers. With optimised aryl substituents their activities come close to the best currently known, suggesting that they might find use as readily available standards in anion transport research.

Novel [6]- and [7]Helicene-Like Quinones via Mono- and Bidirectional Chromium-Templated Benzannulation of Bridged Binaphthyl Carbene Complexes

2005

A new organometallic approach to novel, functionalised, helicene-like quinones and bisquinones has been developed based on the chromium-templated [3+2+1] benzannulation reaction. The [5]helicene-analogous monocarbene chromium complexes 4, 5, 17 and 19, derived from dibromo-substituted methylene- or silylene-tethered binaphthols 2 and 3, react with various alkynes to give [6]helicene-like quinones 6–13 and 20–29 after oxidative work-up. A rare competition of angular vs. linear annulation is observed for the incorporation of phenylacetylene that affords quinones 21/22 and 28/29. Protection of the phenolic benzannulation product with camphanic acid chloride 14, followed by chromatographic sepa…

Synthesis, characterization and X-ray structure of glycosyl-1,2-isoxazoles and glycosyl-1,2-isoxazolines prepared via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition

2013

Abstract A convenient preparative method of a series of glycosyl-1,2-isoxazoles ( 6–11 ) and glycosyl-1,2-isoxazolines ( 15–20 ) by a simple and efficient 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of a series of aryl nitrile oxide, generated in situ from aryl oximes ( 4–5 ), with a variety of O -propargyl glycosyles ( 1 – 3 ) or O -allyl glycosyles ( 12–14 ) respectively, is reported. The carbohydrate-containing 1,2-isoxazoles and 1,2-isoxazolines compounds were isolated in excellent yields (81–91%) and they were fully characterized by 1 H, 13 C NMR and mass spectrometry. The relative stereochemistry of the glycosyl-1,2-isoxazole 10 was confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis. The molecular structure of…
