Evidence for s-channel single top quark production in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV
2013
We present measurements of the cross sections for the two main production modes of single top quarks in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV in the Run II data collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb(-1). The s-channel cross section is measured to be sigma(p (p) over bar -> tb + X) = 1.10(-0.31)(+0.33) pb with no assumptions on the value of the t-channel cross section. Similarly, the t-channel cross section is measured to be sigma(p (p) over bar -> tqb + X) = 3.07(-0.49)(+0.54) pb. We also measure the s + t combined cross section as sigma(p (p) over bar -> tb + X, tqb + X) = 4.11(-0.55)(+0.60) ph and set…
Pulse shape analysis of liquid scintillators for neutron studies
2002
The acquisition of signals from liquid scintillators with Flash ADC of high sampling rate ð 1G S=sÞ has been investigated. The possibility to record the signal waveform is of great advantage in studies with g’s and neutrons in a high count-rate environment, as it allows to easily identify and separate pile-up events. The shapes of pulses produced by g-rays and neutrons have been studied for two different liquid scintillators, NE213 and C6D6: A 1-parameter fitting procedure is proposed, which allows to extract information on the particle type and energy. The performance of this method in terms of energy resolution and n=g discrimination is analyzed, together with the capability to identify a…
Effects of Scaling in SEE and TID Response of High Density NAND Flash Memories
2010
Heavy ion single-event effect (SEE) measurements and total ionizing dose (TID) response for Micron Technology single-level cell 1, 2, 4, 8 Gb commercial NAND flash memory and multi-level cell 8, 16, 32 Gb are reported. The heavy ion measurements were extended down to LET 0.1 MeV-cm2/mg. Scaling effects in SEE and TID response are discussed. Floating gate bit error upset cross section does not scale with feature size at high LETs, except for single-level cell 8 Gb device which is built with 51 nm processes. The threshold LET does not change with scaling. Charge pump TID degradation and standby current improves with scaling. In general, the effect of radiation is either unchanged or is less s…
Hyperon Semileptonic Decays and CKM Unitarity
2005
We perform a new numerical analysis of hyperon semileptonic decays emphasizing the systematic uncertainties. The poor understanding of SU(3) symmetry breaking effects at second order in the vector form factor translates into a large error of |V(us)|. Using our determination |V(us)| = 0.226 +/- 0.005 together with those coming from other sources we test the unitarity of the CKM matrix.
Direct evidence of secondary recoiled nuclei from high energy protons
2008
The production of secondary recoiled particles from interactions between high energy protons and microelectronics devices was investigated. By using NAND Flash memories, we were able to directly obtain analog information on recoil characteristics. While our results qualitatively confirm the role of nuclear reactions, in particular of those with tungsten, a quantitative model based on Monte Carlo and device-level simulations cannot describe the observed results in terms of recoils from proton-W reactions. © 2006 IEEE.
Electrical analogous in viscoelasticity
2014
In this paper, electrical analogous models of fractional hereditary materials are introduced. Based on recent works by the authors, mechanical models of materials viscoelasticity behavior are firstly approached by using fractional mathematical operators. Viscoelastic models have elastic and viscous components which are obtained by combining springs and dashpots. Various arrangements of these elements can be used, and all of these viscoelastic models can be equivalently modeled as electrical circuits, where the spring and dashpot are analogous to the capacitance and resistance, respectively. The proposed models are validated by using modal analysis. Moreover, a comparison with numerical expe…
Gain Dynamics after Ultrashort Pulse Trains in Quantum Dot based Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers
2007
We study the gain dynamics in QD-based SOAs after excitation with fs-pulse trains of up to THz repetition rates. A complete ground-state gain recovery is found for 200 GHz repetition rates and injection currents around 90 mA.
Complete characterization of terahertz pulse trains generated from nonlinear processes in optical fibers
2001
The measurement technique of frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) is used to characterize the intensity and phase of terahertz pulse trains generated from nonlinear and dispersive interactions in optical fibers. We show that existing FROG retrieval algorithms are easily adapted to allow the retrieval of periodic pulse characteristics and, using synthetic pulse trains generated from numerical simulations, we demonstrate how FROG can differentiate between periodic pulse trains with fundamentally different intensity and phase characteristics, yet qualitatively similar autocorrelation functions and spectra. Experimental results are presented for the FROG characterization of a 0.3-THz sinuso…
Singularity analysis and integrability for a HNLS equation governing pulse propagation in a generic fiber optics
2006
Abstract Taking into account many developments in fiber optics communications, we propose a higher nonlinear Schrodinger equation (HNLS) with variable coefficients, more general than that in [R. Essiambre, G.P. Agrawal, Opt. Commun. 131 (1996) 274], which governs the propagation of ultrashort pulses in a fiber optics with generic variable dispersion. The study of this equation is performed using the Painleve test and the zero-curvature method. Also, we prove the equivalence between this equation and its anomalous integrable counterpart (the so-called Sasa–Satsuma equation). Finally, in view of its physical relevance, we present a soliton solution which represents the propagation of ultrasho…
Stable coupled conjugate solitary waves in optical fibers.
1998
Four-wave mixing of an intense continuous-wave pump beam with an ultrashort soliton signal in an optical fiber is theoretically analyzed. A novel class of stable two-color coupled solitary waves is found. These vector parametric solitons represent the optimal frequency conversion of an ultrashort pulse. © 1998 Optical Society of America.
