The mitochondrial‐derived peptide MOTS ‐c: a player in exceptional longevity?

Mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDP) are encoded by functional short open reading frames in the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). These include humanin, and the recently discovered mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA-c (MOTS-c). Although more research is needed, we suggest that the m.1382A>C polymorphism located in the MOTS-c encoding mtDNA, which is specific for the Northeast Asian population, may be among the putative biological mechanisms explaining the high longevity of Japanese people. 5.760 JCR (2015) Q1, 36/187 Cell biology, 3/49 Geriatrics & gerontology UEM

In the last decades a significant increase of the migratory phenomenon from South Asian countries to the western world has occurred due to several factors, such as economic crisis, political instabilities, persecutions and wars. Chinese theology is a challenge for Christianity. On the one hand, it presents new opportunities, and on the other, it prompts the redefinition of many terms, dogmas, and ways of thinking. Under the influence of Chinese theology, classical theology may become sinicized, i.e. influenced by the Chinese way of perceiving the world, man and the upernatural. Without knowing the philosophy, religion, art and language of the Chinese, Chinese theology may cause fear and apprehension. This can only be overcome by learning about the Asian world without fear.

Instytut badań nad Teologią i Duchowością Dalekiego Wschodu jest próbą odpowiedzi na zapotrzebowanie integracji środowiska naukowego, zajmującego się teologią i duchowością Dalekiego Wschodu. Niniejsza publikacja jest zaproszeniem do współpracy.

Impact of the Asian monsoon on the extratropical lower stratosphere: trace gas observations during TACTS over Europe 2012

Abstract. The transport of air masses originating from the Asian monsoon anticyclone into the extratropical upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (Ex-UTLS) above potential temperatures Θ = 380 K was identified during the HALO aircraft mission TACTS in August and September 2012. In situ measurements of CO, O3 and N2O during TACTS flight 2 on 30 August 2012 show the irreversible mixing of aged stratospheric air masses with younger (recently transported from the troposphere) ones within the Ex-UTLS. Backward trajectories calculated with the trajectory module of CLaMS indicate that these tropospherically affected air masses originate from the Asian monsoon anticyclone. These air masses are …

Abstract. This study presents airborne in situ and satellite remote sensing climatologies of cirrus clouds and humidity. The climatologies serve as a guide to the properties of cirrus clouds, with the new in situ database providing detailed insights into boreal midlatitudes and the tropics, while the satellite-borne data set offers a global overview. To this end, an extensive, quality-checked data archive, the Cirrus Guide II in situ database, is created from airborne in situ measurements during 150 flights in 24 campaigns.
