Effect of in vitro exposure to cadmiumand copper on sea bass blood cells

Blood cells freshly collected from sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) were exposed in vitro to different concentrations of cadmium (Cd) and copper (Cu) at 10-7 M, 10-5 M, 10-3 M, and exam- ined for neutral red retention capacity and for cell vitality with MTT assay. A relationship between heavy metal exposure and alteration in responses of blood cells in a dose-time-dependent was found. Our results showed that fish blood cells may constitute an interesting biological model for experimen- tal and applied toxicology, especially in the case of environmental pollution.

Abstract The present study compares two possible alternative methods to replace the acute fish test. Fertilized eggs of zebrafish, Brachydanio rerio were used to investigate the acute toxicity of chemicals. Different toxicological endpoints such as coagulation of the eggs, development of gastrulation, number of somites, development of organs, circulation, heartbeat, otolithanlage and pigmentation have been examined during the embryonic development of zebrafish within the first 48 h. Cycloamphilectenes, a new type of potent marine diterpenes: inhibition of nitric oxide production in murine macrophages.

The inhibitory effect of a series of 6 cycloamphilectenes, novel marine diterpenes based on amphilectene skeletons and isolated from the Vanuatu sponge Axinella sp., on NO, PGE(2) and TNFalpha production in murine peritoneal macrophages was studied. These compounds reduced potently nitric oxide production in a concentration-dependent manner with IC(50) values in the submicromolar range (0.1-4.3 microM). Studies on intact cells and Western blot analysis showed that the more potent cycloamphilectenes reduced the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase without affecting cyclo-oxygenase-2 expression. Boscalid is an agrochemical recently developed for crop protection and the most significant member of the succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor group of fungicides. In this study, a collection of high-affinity monoclonal antibodies was generated to boscalid. By using a series of haptens with a linker at alternative tethering sites of the boscalid framework, specific antibodies were isolated as well as antibodies that also recognized the main boscalid metabolite. International audience; Growth of the lactic acid bacterium (LAB) Oenococcus oeni, which is involved in malolactic fermentation during the winemaking process, is stimulated by peptides originating from yeast. In this study, we investigated the impact of peptides on O. oeni growth, peptidase activity and the expression of genes encoding the studied peptidases. Low levels of PepN activity and very high levels of PepI activity were observed in O. oeni, whereas levels of PepX activity were intermediate.
