Embedding Preschool Assessment Methods into Digital Learning Games to Predict Early Reading Skills

2017

The aim of this pilot study was to explore the predictive accuracy of computer-based assessment tasks (embedded within the GraphoLearn digital learning game platform) in identifying slow and normal readers. The results were compared to those obtained from the traditional paper-and-pencil tasks currently used to assess school readiness in Finland. The data were derived from a cohort of preschool-age children (mean age 6.7 years, N = 57) from a town in central Finland. A year later, at the end of first grade, participants were categorized as either slow (n = 11) or normal readers (n = 46) based on their reading scores. Logistic regression analyses indicated that computer tasks were as efficie…

A survey on sleep assessment methods

2018

Purpose A literature review is presented that aims to summarize and compare current methods to evaluate sleep. Methods Current sleep assessment methods have been classified according to different criteria; e.g., objective (polysomnography, actigraphy…) vs. subjective (sleep questionnaires, diaries…), contact vs. contactless devices, and need for medical assistance vs. self-assessment. A comparison of validation studies is carried out for each method, identifying their sensitivity and specificity reported in the literature. Finally, the state of the market has also been reviewed with respect to customers’ opinions about current sleep apps. Results A taxonomy that classifies the sleep detect…

Diagnostic significance of cold provocation test at 12°C

2005

In Germany, vibration-induced white finger (VWF) disease is accepted as an occupational disease (BK No. 2104 BKV), for which compensation may be paid provided that the sociolegal requirements are met in accordance with the list of occupational diseases that is valid at the time. A cold provocation test (thermometry, infrared thermography) is helpful in the diagnosis of VWF and we believe that it could contribute to the standardization of vascular assessment methods. In Germany, the approved degree of the decrease in earning power is downgraded as disease symptoms improve with time; therefore, insured individuals suffering from VWF are regularly reassessed every 1–3 years. In the context of …

[EN] In recent years the university educational reality shows signs of change. Among other innovations, it has meant the introduction of new ways of assessment, arousing the scientific interest it deserves. Concretely, the formative and shared assessment is developed in assessment routes that try to adapt to the needs of the students. However, the continuous, mixed and final assessment methods are related to different academic performance, which is worth considering. This article tries to deepen in the relation that these itineraries have with the obtained marks and analyses descriptively teacher assessment trends and students’ system assessment preferences of choice. Evaluation and Self-Evaluation in Simultaneous Translation: Assessments Methods

2012

Abstract The nature of evaluation and self-evaluation in simultaneous interpretation is based on the close connection between the main text (the version proposed by the speaker) and the interpreter's version. Between these two elements a number of variables emerge, that can damage the efficiency and the accuracy of simultaneous interpretation. The intention of our study is to propose a set of scientific methods and tools in order to offer to the interpreter the possibility of a self-assessment and the benefit of an appropriate evaluation of his work. In order to achieve these goals we used several methods, including experiments, case studies, questionnaires, evaluation scales. Research subj…
