Novel computational paradigms may provide the blueprint to help solving the time and energy limitations that we face with our modern computers, and provide solutions to complex problems more efficiently (with reduced time, power consumption and/or less device footprint) than is currently possible with standard approaches. Critical proofreading of the book "Les derniers jours du siège d'Alésia"

Was there a lunar eclipse that could have influenced the outcome of the Battle of Alesia? This is the argument developed in the book by Alain Deyber and David Romeuf, «Les Derniers Jours du Siège d'Alésia». Having verified the existence of an eclipse on the date given by the authors and based on the latest publications as well as on the scientific consensus, we conduct a critical study on the chronology of the siege and on the ethnological arguments, even ethno-astronomical of the authors.

[EN] Astrophysical sources of gravitational waves, such as binary neutron star and black hole mergers or core-collapse supernovae, can drive relativistic outflows, giving rise to non-thermal high-energy emission. High-energy neutrinos are signatures of such outflows. Reliability of genomic variants across different next-generation sequencing platforms and bioinformatic processing pipelines

Mechanism for ultrafast electric-field driven skyrmion nucleation

We show how a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction can be generated in an ultrathin metal film from a femtosecond pulse in electric field. This interaction does not require structural inversion-symmetry breaking, and its amplitude can be tuned depending on the amplitude of the field. We perform first-principles calculations to estimate the strength of the field-induced magnetoelectric coupling for ferromagnetic Fe, Co, and Ni, and antiferromagnetic Mn, as well as FePt and MnPt alloys. Intrinsic backgrounds from Rn and Kr in the XENON100 experiment

In the emerging field of magnonics, spin waves are foreseen as signal carriers for future spintronic information processing and communication devices, owing to both the very low power losses and a high device miniaturisation potential predicted for short-wavelength spin waves.
