Facio-auricle-vertebral spectrum (Goldenhar's syndrome): Clinical study of 10 pediatric patients
2002
Goldenhar's syndrome - also known as facio-auricolo-vertebral spectrum - is due to a developmental defect of cranio-facial and vertebral structures, and is interpreted as a disruption. Exogenous factors, such as gestational diabetes or ovopathies, have been involved in its aetiology. The pathogenesis of Goldenhar's syndrome seems to be vascular in most of cases, due to the interruption of blood supply to the branchial and vertebral areas during embryonic development. Ten cases of facio-auricolo-vertebral spectrum of different ages are described, in view of a better delineation of its phenotype. This report can contribute to a better knowledge of the phenotype of facio-auricolo-vertebral spe…
Radiofrequency tissue volume reduction for treatment of auricle keloids
2010
Objectives/Hypothesis: Keloids are often refractive to treatment, and recurrences occur quite frequently. Radiofrequency tissue volume reduction (RFTVR) is a surgical technology that induces extensive fibrosis at the target tissues. Methods: We applied RFTVR in 14 patients (19 auricles, 5 patients treated bilaterally; 9 female, 5 male; range, 10–66 years) with keloids of the auricle. Keloids were located at the earlobe in 4 patients (5 auricles), helix in 9 patients (12 auricles), and at both earlobe and helix in 1 patient (2 auricles). In 6 patients (8 auricles) RFTVR was the sole treatment modality applied, and in 7 patients (10 auricles) intralesional steroid injection was also performed…
Retroauricular skin: a flaps bank for ear reconstruction.
2006
Retroauricular skin: a flaps bank for ear reconstruction. Cordova A, D'Arpa S, Pirrello R, Giambona C, Moschella F. Source Cattedra di Chirurgia Plastica e Ricostruttiva, Dipartimento di Discipline Chirurgiche ed Oncologiche, Università degli Studi di Palermo, Via del Vespro 129, 90127 - Palermo, Italy. adriana.cordova@excite.com Abstract BACKGROUND: The retroauricular skin has always been given much attention by the reconstructive surgeon for ear and face reconstruction because it is richly vascularised, as many anatomical investigations show, it is hidden behind the ear, its skin is very similar to that of ear and face. All these reasons make it an ideal donor site for ear reconstruction.…
The Oculo-auricular Phenomenon in Brain-Stem Disease
1993
The oculo-auricular phenomenon (OAP), as described by Wilson in 1908 [26], consists of bilateral coactivation of external ear muscles during lateral gaze. Two ear muscles are innervated by motoneurons of the medial part of the facial nucleus [9, 25]: the transverse auricular muscle (TAM) (Fig. 1), which adducts and curls the helix of the auricle, and the posterior auricular muscle (Fig. 2), which moves the whole auricle backwards [3, 16, 22].
Nonsurgical treatment of earlobe aging in Mowlavi stages I and II earlobe ptosis with Hyaluronic acid fillers.
2018
Background: Earlobe deflation caused by fat atrophy is normally treated with lipofilling, mostly in the context of facelift surgery. In this report, we aim at reporting on Hyaluronic Acid injections to treat earlobe deflation. Materials and Methods: 16 Mowlavi Grade I and II patients were treated with HA injections, followed by molding to shape the lobule. Results: Effective correction, lasting 14 months on average, is achieved. Five patients needed a touch-up procedure after 4-6 months to improve the result. Conclusions: Earlobe augmentation with HA is an ideal option for correction of earlobe atrophy in cases of Mowlavi Grades I and II ptosis. Long-lasting (about 14 months) correction is …
Further application of the bilobed flap: the split bilobed flap for reconstruction of composite posterior auricular and mastoid defects
2006
In this article a modified bilobed flap from mastoid and lateral neck skin for reconstruction of complex defects of the posteromedial surface of the auricle and mastoid skin, with the preservation of the retroauricular sulcus, is described. Reconstruction of the postero-medial auricular surface has almost never been a concern for reconstructive surgeons. It is in fact a shaded area with little aesthetic relevance and direct closure, skin grafting and even secondary healing are used for skin cancer defects repair. Also mastoid skin defects can be repaired with simple techniques such as skin grafts or transposition flaps from the remaining mastoid skin or from the neck. On the other hand, can…
Zur Frage des Vorkommens von Isopropylnoradrenalin in Herz und Nebenniere
1959
1. Extracts of adrenal glands and heart tissue of the cat were prepared and chromatographed on paper. The regions corresponding to the RF values of noradrenaline, adrenaline and isoprenaline (isopropylnoradrenaline) were eluted. The eluates were assayed on the blood pressure, the isolated auricle and the isolated uterus of the rat. Differential assay on these preparations proved to be specific and extremely sensitive for isoprenaline. 2. There was no evidence for the occurrence of isoprenaline in the adrenal medulla or the heart of the cat. The method used is sufficiently sensitive to detect 0,2% of isoprenaline in the total catechol amines of the heart and 0,007% in the adrenals.
