Optimizing the Shape of Welded Constructions Made through the Technique “Temper Bead Welding”
2020
Welded constructions are subject to high stresses during operation. One solution for improving the behavior in exploitation of welded constructions in various cases is to use the welding technique “temper bead welding” (TBW). In the paper, the optimization of the geometry of the welded joints by the TBW technique was performed. Thus, corner welded joints made of S355 steel were analyzed. To make the welded joints, three layers of welding seams were deposited, and the intermediate layers were processed through cutting with various radii. To analyze the influence of the size of these rays on the behavior of welded constructions, a research program based on factorial experiences wa…
How perceived value drives the use of mobile financial services apps
2019
Mobile information services have revolutionized business models and service delivery methods by facilitating consumer access to information and order placement via mobile apps. In developed markets, mobile banking (m-banking) and mobile payment (m-payment) applications have replaced text-based mobile services. However, extant research has not addressed these mobile financial services apps (MFSAs) adequately from the perspective of consumer behavior. Thus, the present study developed and tested a series of hypotheses related to the antecedents of perceived value of MFSA use; it also examined how such use affects the development of customers’ overall relationships with banks. Our hypotheses w…
Robotization of Mobile Communication
2020
The aim of this chapter is to systematize the discussion regarding robotization of mobile communication. The chapter begins by clarifying the fundamental role of both robot hardware and robot software in this process. This is followed by a critical overview of existing research, which is classified into three categories. First, robotization is understood as the hybridization of the human body with existing ordinary mobile devices. Second, the incorporation of new robotic software, such as algorithms, artificial intelligence, and virtual assistants, into mobile devices is seen to robotize them from inside. Third, the convergence of smart communication devices, typically as user interfaces wi…
Robotic i.v. medication compounding: Recommendations from the international community of APOTECAchemo users.
2016
Purpose The development of recommendations for advancing automated i.v. medication compounding is described. Summary Managing the shift from manual to robotic compounding of i.v. therapies requires an awareness of how automation affects practice and how to best implement robotics into current practice. An international panel of pharmacy professionals, researchers, and technology leaders with experience in i.v. robotics collaborated during a two-day meeting in August 2014 to define a general set of principles to broaden the understanding of the fundamental elements of robotic compounding worldwide. Participants were divided into four working groups (technology and safety; drugs and products;…
From Illusion to Reality: A Brief History of Robotic Surgery.
2018
Purpose. Robotic surgery is currently employed for many surgical procedures, yielding interesting results. Methods. We performed an historical review of robots and robotic surgery evaluating some critical phases of its evolution, analyzing its impact on our life and the steps completed that gave the robotics its current popularity. Results. The origins of robotics can be traced back to Greek mythology. Different aspects of robotics have been explored by some of the greatest inventors like Leonardo da Vinci, Pierre Jaquet-Droz, and Wolfgang Von-Kempelen. Advances in many fields of science made possible the development of advanced surgical robots. Over 3000 da Vinci robotic platforms are ins…
Analysis and evaluation of periodic physiological organ motion in radiotherapy treatments.
2003
Background and purpose: A system for the detection, measurement and analysis of the periodic physiological organ motion during radiotherapy treatment is proposed and clinically tested in this paper. Material and methods: The procedure is based on the acquisition of fluoroscopic sequences, followed by an automatic detection of the movement using cross-correlations with matched filters. Results: The system generates a probability density function (PDF) of finding a mobile organ in a position at a certain time. The maximum path of the mobile structures can be determined to define the planning target volume (PTV) without ambiguities. Conclusions: Physiological movements can be accurately includ…

Salesperson adoption and usage of mobile sales configuration tools
2018
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine salespersons’ adoption and usage of mobile sales configuration tools (MSCT) and to identify areas for further development in this realm. Another objective is to offer a conceptualization of MSCT adoption.Design/methodology/approachFor this purpose, a qualitative case study approach was selected as the research method to better understand acceptance of a mobile configuration tool used by business-to-business (B2B) salespersons. Primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which included a series of open-ended questions to gain more detailed and contextual data.FindingsThe results obtained from the interviews indicated several …
Mobile Technology Adoption and the Effects of Cultural Factors
2019
Mobile technologies are an important part of human life in both the personal and professional realms. Many services (banking, news, health, education, etc.) that traditionally offered either face-to-face, telephone, or other conventional platforms and technologies are now establishing services on mobile platforms as well. Mobile gadgets are now also being used by company employees as sales automation tools. The importance of culture in technology adoption and usage has been well-established. The adoption of any technology includes a set of factors that determine if the technology is either accepted or rejected, and the individual strengths of these determining factors may vary greatly, depe…
Quantitative Approximation Properties for the Fractional Heat Equation
2017
In this note we analyse \emph{quantitative} approximation properties of a certain class of \emph{nonlocal} equations: Viewing the fractional heat equation as a model problem, which involves both \emph{local} and \emph{nonlocal} pseudodifferential operators, we study quantitative approximation properties of solutions to it. First, relying on Runge type arguments, we give an alternative proof of certain \emph{qualitative} approximation results from \cite{DSV16}. Using propagation of smallness arguments, we then provide bounds on the \emph{cost} of approximate controllability and thus quantify the approximation properties of solutions to the fractional heat equation. Finally, we discuss genera…
