Thermal sprayed coatings for protection against cavitation erosion

2018

In order to protect the hydraulic components from cavitation erosion phenomena, the parts are often coated by thermal spraying. Buck YSZ shows an excellent performance against cavitation erosion. However, the cavitation erosion resistance of YSZ coatings have vaguely been studied. Therefore, in this study, YSZ were manufactured with different thermal spraying processes and post-treated by laser remelting, then they were subjected to cavitation tests according to ASTM G32.The YSZ coating was first manufactured by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). Various sizes of YSZ powder and different preheating temperatures of the substrate were studied to observe their effect on the cavitation behavior…

Robust fault tolerant tracking controller design for a VTOL aircraft

2013

This paper deals with the fault tolerant control (FTC) design for a Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) aircraft subject to external disturbances and actuator faults. The aim is to synthesize a fault tolerant controller ensuring trajectory tracking for the nonlinear uncertain system represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model. In order to design the FTC law, a proportional integral observer (PIO) is adopted which estimate both of the faults and the faulty system states. Based on the Lyapunov theory and ℓ2 optimization, the trajectory tracking performance and the stability of the closed loop system are analyzed. Sufficient conditions are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMI). …

AUSTRIA: Winter Tourism and Sport Retail Most Significant Sport Business Fields

2017

The Austrian sport landscape has undergone many changes within the last decades. One of the biggest changes is that the private sport sector has emerged to be nowadays a major contributor to the Austrian economy. Sport economy in Austria accounts for 4% of the total economic value added and over 333,000 people are connected to workplaces within this sector. Furthermore, the private sport sector contributes to other sectors, for example in the development of new products or materials for the aviation industry. Compared to the total value added in the Austrian sport economy, winter tourism and sport retailers act as the strongest contributors. In this article ski lift operators are presented …

Decision support for centralizing cargo at a Moroccan airport hub using stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis

2010

The geographical location of Morocco places it at the heart of important sea, air, rail and motorway transport routes between four continents. In this study we evaluate different alternatives to centralize multimodal cargo at a Moroccan airport hub. The choice depends on different socio-economical criteria, the geographical location, and the environmental impacts. Some of the criteria can be measured quantitatively, while for others only qualitative assessment is feasible. Furthermore, significant uncertainty is present in both the criteria measurements and the preferences. We aided this decision process using Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis (SMAA). SMAA is a method that all…

RIGA International Airport development in Baltic Sea region aviation industry context

2021

In the paper the authors examined key Latvian economy indicators, specifically focusing on trends in development of aviation industry development. In particular, also attention was paid to passengers and cargo volume transportation dynamics, as well as to RIGA International Airport Development Plan through the year 2036. The authors compared operations of RIGA International Airport with available data from other leading Baltic Sea Region airports, specifically within 300 kilometres zone. Another requirement was, a competing airport had to be in the TOP 100 airports globally to be considered. KEY WORDS: RIGA International Airport, Baltic sea region, development plan. An empirically grounded agent based model for modeling directs, conflict detection and resolution operations in air traffic management

2017

We present an agent based model of the Air Traffic Management socio-technical complex system that aims at modeling the interactions between aircrafts and air traffic controllers at a tactical level. The core of the model is given by the conflict detection and resolution module and by the directs module. Directs are flight shortcuts that are given by air controllers to speed up the passage of an aircraft within a certain airspace and therefore to facilitate airline operations. Conflicts resolution between flight trajectories can arise during the en-route phase of each flight due to both not detailed flight trajectory planning or unforeseen events that perturb the planned flight plan. Our mod…

Airport Charges Policy as a Tool for Achieving Competitive Advantage in the Aviation Market

2020

Air transportation plays an important socio-economic role, and an airport, as part of the transportation system, is a significant component of the national infrastructure. The airport is not just a provider of aviation services, whose activities are regulated by the state, but is a self-sustainable commercial complex with its own business goals and development strategy aimed at the growth and economic efficiency of operations. Strengthening its position in the Nordic region is the strategic goal of Riga International Airport. Competitive advantage in airport charges policy should contribute to the accomplishment of this strategic goal - Riga Airport should be the first choice for airport tr…

Introduction: Why to Study Ageing in Organisations?

2017

Questions related to ageing are shared widely in and between organizations. People are living longer and working longer than they used to earlier (Levinson 1978). The percentage of people over 60 years of age is growing rapidly worldwide, with one report estimating that by mid-century the number of people over 60 will triple to nearly two billion people. This tendency is evident especially in Europe and North America, which countries face the retiring of the baby-boom generation (Aaltio et al., International Journal of Work Innovation, 1(4), 323–329, 2016). The growing phenomenon of ageing has had and will have a major impact on the economy, and on social and work life (Davoudi et al., Futu…

An eco-label for the airline industry?

2017

Abstract Air travel plays a vital role in today's life because it makes remote destinations accessible and short getaways possible. Despite its benefits, air transportation contributes heavily to climate change. Behavioral change is seen as a key driver in mitigating the environmental impacts of air travel. One way to encourage behavioral change is to use eco-labels. This study explores how an eco-label could be developed for the airline industry to function as a potential driver for behavioral change. 12 interviews with airline industry experts were conducted and thematically analyzed. Empirical results were then combined with prior research and the following five criteria essential for th…
