MCMI-III Profiles of Convicted Contact Sexual Offenders: A Cluster Analysis

As suggested by previous research, the study of personality traits among sexual offenders could be an important consideration in the understanding of sexual offending. This study aims to explore the possibility of classifying sexual offenders according to their personality profiles. Based on the MCMI-III scores of 97 convicted contact sexual offenders, a cluster hierarchical analysis was performed. Axial Length and Anterior Segment Alterations in Former Preterm Infants and Full-Term Neonates Analyzed With Scheimpflug Imaging.

Purpose To compare the axial length and anterior segment alterations in preterm infants with and without retinopathy of prematurity with those of full-term infants. Methods The Wiesbaden Prematurity Study investigated 503 participants of former gestational age ≤32 weeks and gestational age ≥37 weeks now being aged 4 to 10 years. This study included 485 participants in the prospective controlled cross-sectional, hospital-based study with successful Pentacam Scheimpflug imaging. Structural properties of GaN quantum dots

The strain state and the deformation profile of GaN quantum dots embedded in AlN have been measured by high resolution electron microscopy, medium energy ion scattering and grazing incidence X-ray diffraction. The results are compared with theoretical calculations, allowing one to conclude that GaN quantum dots experience a non biaxial strain which drastically decreases when going from the basal plane up to the apex of the dots. We also demonstrate that AlN is distorted in the surroundings of the dots, which provides the driving force for vertical correlation of GaN dots when the AlN spacer between successive planes is thin enough.

Accurate expansion of cylindrical paraxial waves for its straightforward implementation in electromagnetic scattering

Abstract The evaluation of vector wave fields can be accurately performed by means of diffraction integrals, differential equations and also series expansions. In this paper, a Bessel series expansion which basis relies on the exact solution of the Helmholtz equation in cylindrical coordinates is theoretically developed for the straightforward yet accurate description of low-numerical-aperture focal waves. The validity of this approach is confirmed by explicit application to Gaussian beams and apertured focused fields in the paraxial regime. Finally we discuss how our procedure can be favorably implemented in scattering problems.

Microstructural analysis (Voigt function method) of mullite in whiteware triaxial porcelains

Triaxial porcelains were produced of two whiteware blends containing kaolin B (of “high-crystallinity” kaolinite) or halloysitic kaolin M (also with “low-crystallinity” kaolinite) in two different industrial firing cycles (fast or slow) with final temperatures 1270 °C, 1300 °C, 1320 °C and 1340 °C. The crystalline microstructure of mullite in all porcelain samples was studied by X-ray diffraction through analysing 110 and 001 reflections using the Voigt function method and by optical and electron microscopy. CADEM: calculate X-ray diffraction of epitaxial multilayers

This article presents a powerful yet simple program, based on the general one-dimensional kinematic X-ray diffraction (XRD) theory, which calculates the XRD patterns of tailor-made multilayers and thus enables quantitative comparison of measured and calculated XRD data. As the multilayers are constructed layer by layer, the final material stack can be entirely arbitrary.

Devil’s vortex-lenses

2009

In this paper we present a new kind of vortex lenses in which the radial phase distribution is characterized by the "devil's staircase" function. The focusing properties of these fractal DOEs coined Devil's vortex-lenses are analytically studied and the influence of the topological charge is investigated. It is shown that under monochromatic illumination a vortex devil's lens give rise a focal volume containing a delimited chain of vortices that are axially distributed according to the self-similarity of the lens.

Uniaxial Pressure Effect on Dielectric Properties of 0.7Na0. 5Bi0.5TiO3‐0.3SrTiO3Ceramics

The 0.7Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-0.3SrTiO3 ceramics were prepared by a solid-state mixed-oxide technique at 1180°C. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy studies revealed that the obtained samples possess perovskite structure. The behaviour of the electric permittivity (ɛ) and polarization of these ceramics as a function of uniaxial pressure (0 – 1000 bar) were investigated. Applying pressure shifts and decrease of maximum value of ɛ, a diffuseness of the permittivity characteristics, decrease of the thermal hysteresis and change of the polarization.
