Role of NF-kappaB in immune and inflammatory responses in the gut.

1998

NF-kappaB is a pleiotropic transcription factor with key functions in the intestinal immune system. NF-kappaB family members control transcriptional activity of various promoters of proinflammatory cytokines, cell surface receptors, transcription factors, and adhesion molecules that are involved in intestinal inflammation. The perpetuated activation of NF-kappaB in patients with active inflammatory bowel disease suggests that regulation of NF-kappaB activity is a very attractive target for therapeutic intervention. Such strategies include antioxidants, proteasome inhibitors, inhibition of NF-kappaB by adenoviral I kappaB alpha expression vectors, and antisense DNA targeting of NF-kappaB. Th…

Mapping properties of weakly singular periodic volume potentials in Roumieu classes

2020

The analysis of the dependence of integral operators on perturbations plays an important role in the study of inverse problems and of perturbed boundary value problems. In this paper, we focus on the mapping properties of the volume potentials with weakly singular periodic kernels. Our main result is to prove that the map which takes a density function and a periodic kernel to a (suitable restriction of the) volume potential is bilinear and continuous with values in a Roumieu class of analytic functions. This result extends to the periodic case of some previous results obtained by the authors for nonperiodic potentials, and it is motivated by the study of perturbation problems for the solut…

Serum metal levels in a population of Spanish pregnant women

2022

Objective: To describe serum levels of calcium, copper, selenium, magnesium, iron and zinc and evaluate their relationship with maternal socio-demographic characteristics and dietary variables in women in the first trimester of pregnancy. Method: Cross-sectional study with 1279 participants from the INMA cohorts. Results: The concentrations of the elements analyzed were within the normal range. Associations with higher levels of these metals were found for calcium with white meat intake (p = 0.026), for cop-per with excess body weight (p 71 g/day) (p = 0.014) and having been born in Spain (p = 0.001). Further, lower iron levels were associated with being overweight (p = 0.021) or obese (p <…

Plant response to irrigation with saline water in a Sicilian vineyard: results of a three-years field investigation

2012

This paper reports the results of a three-year field investigation carried out in a vineyard located in Sicily (Mazara del Vallo, Trapani) within the framework of the Project: Evolution of cropping systems as affected by climate change (CLIMESCO). Research investigated soil-plant response to irrigation performed with water having two different salinity levels; soil hydrological characteristics, soil salinity, crop transpiration and stomatal conductance were measured in field plots. The results proved that crop transpiration and stomatal conductance were significantly affected by soil salinity conditions (expressed as electrical conductivity of the soil saturated water extract). A significan…

Introduction.

Cannabinoid 1 Receptors in Keratinocytes Modulate Proinflammatory Chemokine Secretion and Attenuate Contact Allergic Inflammation

2013

Abstract Epidermal keratinocytes (KCs) and cannabinoid (CB) receptors both participate in the regulation of inflammatory responses in a mouse model for allergic contact dermatitis, the contact hypersensitivity (CHS) response to the obligate sensitizer 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene. In this study, we investigated the cellular and molecular mechanisms how CB1 receptors attenuate CHS responses to 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene. We used a conditional gene-targeting approach to identify the relative contribution of CB1 receptors on epidermal KCs for the control of CHS responses. To determine the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate inflammatory responses in the effector phase of CHS, …
