Hidden Strange Nonchaotic Attractors

2021

In this paper, it is found numerically that the previously found hidden chaotic attractors of the Rabinovich–Fabrikant system actually present the characteristics of strange nonchaotic attractors. For a range of the bifurcation parameter, the hidden attractor is manifestly fractal with aperiodic dynamics, and even the finite-time largest Lyapunov exponent, a measure of trajectory separation with nearby initial conditions, is negative. To verify these characteristics numerically, the finite-time Lyapunov exponents, ‘0-1’ test, power spectra density, and recurrence plot are used. Beside the considered hidden strange nonchaotic attractor, a self-excited chaotic attractor and a quasiperiodic at…

Multi-layer canard cycles and translated power functions

2008

Abstract The paper deals with two-dimensional slow-fast systems and more specifically with multi-layer canard cycles. These are canard cycles passing through n layers of fast orbits, with n ⩾ 2 . The canard cycles are subject to n generic breaking mechanisms and we study the limit cycles that can be perturbed from the generic canard cycles of codimension n . We prove that this study can be reduced to the investigation of the fixed points of iterated translated power functions.

Scenario of the Birth of Hidden Attractors in the Chua Circuit

2017

Recently it was shown that in the dynamical model of Chua circuit both the classical selfexcited and hidden chaotic attractors can be found. In this paper the dynamics of the Chua circuit is revisited. The scenario of the chaotic dynamics development and the birth of selfexcited and hidden attractors is studied. It is shown a pitchfork bifurcation in which a pair of symmetric attractors coexists and merges into one symmetric attractor through an attractormerging bifurcation and a splitting of a single attractor into two attractors. The scenario relating the subcritical Hopf bifurcation near equilibrium points and the birth of hidden attractors is discussed.

Dynamical and statistical properties of high-temperature self-propagating fronts: An experimental study

2009

International audience; We present a detailed experimental study of high-temperature self-propagating fronts using image processing techniques. The intrinsic features of the wave propagation are investigated as a function of the combustion temperature TC for a model system made of titanium and silicon powders. Different front behavior is realized by changing the molar ratio x of the mixture Ti+xSi. Outside the range x=[0.3,1.5], no thermal front is propagating while inside, three regimes are observed: steady-state combustion which is characterized by a flat front propagating at constant velocity and two unsteady regimes. The combustion temperature (or the corresponding ratio x) is thus play…

Impact of Gluten-Friendly Bread on the Metabolism and Function of In Vitro Gut Microbiota in Healthy Human and Coeliac Subjects

2016

The main aim of this paper was to assess the in vitro response of healthy and coeliac human faecal microbiota to gluten-friendly bread (GFB). Thus, GFB and control bread (CB) were fermented with faecal microbiota in pH-controlled batch cultures. The effects on the major groups of microbiota were monitored over 48 h incubations by fluorescence in situ hybridisation. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Furthermore, the death kinetics of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella Typhimurium in a saline solution supplemented with GFB or CB were also assessed. The experiment…

Oligo(1,4-phenylenepyrazole-3,5-diyl)s

2003

The bifunctional nucleophile methylhydrazine reacts in an alkaline medium in a regioselective mode with chalcones to yield 2-pyrazolines, which can be oxidized by DDQ to the corresponding 1H-pyrazoles. From oligo(chalcone)s this reaction yields cross-conjugated compounds with an alternating sequence of 1,4-disubstituted benzene rings and 3,5-disubstituted 1H-pyrazole rings. Association of Maternal Secretor Status and Human Milk Oligosaccharides With Milk Microbiota: An Observational Pilot Study

2019

Background and Objectives: Breast milk contains several bioactive factors including oligosaccharides (HMO) and microbes that shape the infant gut microbiota. HMO profile is determined by secretor status, however their influence on milk microbiota is still uncovered. This study is aimed to determine the impact of the FUT2 genotype on the milk microbiota during the first month of lactation and the association with HMO. Methods: Milk microbiota from 25 healthy lactating women was determined by quantitative PCR and 16S gene pyrosequencing. Secretor genotype was obtained by PCR-RFLPs and by HMO identification and quantification. Results: The most abundant bacteria were Staphylococcus and Strepto…

Selective growth-inhibitory effect of 8-hydroxyquinoline towards Clostridium difficile and Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum in co-culture analyse…

2014

The major risk factor for Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is the use of antibiotics owing to the disruption of the equilibrium of the host gut microbiota. To preserve the beneficial resident probiotic bacteria during infection treatment, the use of molecules with selective antibacterial activity enhances the efficacy by selectively removing C. difficile. One of them is the plant alkaloid 8-hydroxyquinoline (8HQ), which has been shown to selectively inhibit clostridia without repressing bifidobacteria. Selective antimicrobial activity is generally tested by culture techniques of individual bacterial strains. However, the main limitation of these techniques is the inability to describe …

Conversion of the Sensor Kinase DcuS to the Fumarate Sensitive State by Interaction of the Bifunctional Transporter DctA at the TM2/PAS

2021

The membrane-bound C4-dicarboxylate (C4DC) sensor kinase DcuS of Escherichia coli typically forms a protein complex with the C4DC transporter DctA. The DctA × DcuS complex is able to respond to C4DCs, whereas DcuS without DctA is in the permanent ON state. In DctA, the C-terminal helix 8b (H8b) serves as the site for interaction with DcuS. Here the interaction site in DcuS and the related structural and functional adaptation in DcuS were determined. The Linker connecting transmembrane helix 2 (TM2) and the cytosolic PASC (Per-ARNT-SIM) domain of DcuS, was identified as the major site for interaction with DctA-H8b by in vivo interaction studies. The Linker is known to convert the piston-type…
