A novel framework for MR image segmentation and quantification by using MedGA

2019

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Image segmentation represents one of the most challenging issues in medical image analysis to distinguish among different adjacent tissues in a body part. In this context, appropriate image pre-processing tools can improve the result accuracy achieved by computer-assisted segmentation methods. Taking into consideration images with a bimodal intensity distribution, image binarization can be used to classify the input pictorial data into two classes, given a threshold intensity value. Unfortunately, adaptive thresholding techniques for two-class segmentation work properly only for images characterized by bimodal histograms. We aim at overcoming these limitations and…

Male dominance and immunocompetence in a field cricket

2004

Female preference for dominant males has been found in many species, and it is generally thought that winners of male-male competition are of superior quality. Success in contests probably depends on male condition and overall health. Thus, females could avoid infection and gain genetic benefits in terms of more viable offspring by mating with dominant males. In the present study, we tested whether dominant males of the Mediterranean field cricket, Gryllus bimaculatus, had higher immunocompetence than did their subordinates in experimental trials. We found that dominant males had better immune defense, as indicated by significantly higher encapsulation rate and lytic activity, than did subo…

A Protein-Interaction Array Inside a Living Cell

2013

Cell phenotype is determined by protein network states that are maintained by the dynamics of multiple protein interactions.1 Fluorescence microscopy approaches that measure protein interactions in individual cells, such as by Forster resonant energy transfer (FRET), are limited by the spectral separation of fluorophores and thus are most suitable to analyze a single protein interaction in a given cell. However, analysis of correlations between multiple protein interactions is required to uncover the interdependence of protein reactions in dynamic signal networks. Available protein-array technologies enable the parallel analysis of interacting proteins from cell extracts, however, they can …

IFC and Buildings Lifecycle Management

2008

International audience; This paper presents an extension of the BIM technology that allows to manage information during the entire lifecycle of an AEC project. Usually, AEC projects and facility management are dissociated. Our building information system plays a central role in the improvement of the design and the management process. The building activity generates a great number of data and information of various kinds. The management and the communication of these data by the various participants is complex. Our design and management methods use IFC files to facilitate the sharing process for a better qualification and validation of data.

Hexaphosphine: A Multifaceted Ligand for Transition Metal Coordination

2011

We report the synthesis and characterization of the first ferrocenyl polyphosphane incorporating six phosphorus donor atoms. In this unique ligand, the cyclopentadienyl rings of the ferrocenyl backbone adopt a staggered position, which leads to a piano-stool arrangement for each of the two sets of three P atoms facing the same direction. As a consequence of its remarkable flexibility, this hexaphosphane displays versatile coordination behaviour towards metals, leading to unexpected structures of palladium and platinum bimetallic complexes. Analogous molybdenum and rhodium complexes are more classical.

Inter-string arrays of bimetallic assemblies with alternative Cu2+-Cl-Cu2+ and Cu-NC-M (M = Co3+, Fe+3, Cr+3) bridges: syntheses, crystal structure, …

2004

Three bimetallic assemblies with alternate homometallic bridges through chloride ligands and heterometallic bridges through cyanide ligands of formula [(323)(2)Cu(2)(Cl)M(CN)(6)](n).2n(H(2)O), where 323 = N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)ethylenediamine and M = Co(3+) for 1, Fe(3+) for 2, and Cr(3+) for 3, were synthesized. They have been characterized structurally, analytically, spectroscopically, and magnetically. All three assemblies crystallize in the monoclinic system in the same space group P2(1)/n, with a = 11.642(2) A, b = 10.285(3) A, c = 13.622(2) A, beta = 95.69(3) degrees, V = 1623.1(6) A(3), and Z = 4 for 1; a = 11.681(4) A, b = 10.315(3) A, c = 13.567(5) A, beta = 95.62(3) degrees, V = …

Magnetic properties and molecular structures of binuclear (2-pyrazinecarboxylate)-bridged complexes containing Re(iv) and M(ii) (M = Co, Ni)

2007

Three novel Re(iv) compounds, the mononuclear complex Bu(4)N[ReBr(5)(Hpyzc)] (1) and the heterobimetallic complexes [ReBr(5)(mu-pyzc)M(dmphen)(2)].2CH(3)CN [M = Co (2), Ni (3)] (Hpyzc = 2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid, dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline), have been synthesized and their crystal structures determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of 1 consists of [ReBr(5)(Hpyzc)](-) complex anions and tetrabutylammonium cations, Bu(4)N(+). The Re(iv) is surrounded by five bromide anions and a N-donor Hpyzc monodentate ligand, in a distorted octahedral environment. The structures of 2 and 3 consist of dinuclear units [ReBr(5)(mu-pyzc)M(dmphen)(2)], with the metal ions li…
