Stereospecific Polymerization of Isoprene with Nd(BH4)3(THF)3/MgBu2 as Catalyst
2004
The neodymium trisborohydride Nd(BH 4 ) 3 - (THF) 3 (THF = tetrahydrofuran) has been used as a catalyst precursor for isoprene polymerization for the first time. Associated to an excess of Al(Et) 3 , the resulting catalyst is moderately active, giving a mixture of cis- and trans- polymer. Addition of a stoichiometric amount of MgBu 2 to Nd(BH 4 ) 3 (THF) 3 affords a stereospecific catalyst providing trans-1,4-polyisoprene, more than 96% regular. That dual component Nd/Mg system also shows a better efficiency and good control of the molecular weights. A molecular structure is tentatively attributed to a bimetallic active species, based on 1 H NMR experiments.
FROM SCAN-TO-BIM TO HERITAGE BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING FOR AN ANCIENT ARAB-NORMAN CHURCH
2022
Abstract. One of the most significant issues in Cultural Heritage is the management of ancient buildings to monitor their state of conservation or to plan actions in their maintenance; this issue can be now approached thanks to the use of the Scan-to-BIM process. This method allows the creation of parametric models into a BIM environment, which are capable of enhancing the geometrical representation of building elements and integrating different types of data. This paper shows the results of the research activities carried out by the Department of Engineering at University of Palermo (Italy) on applying the Scan-to-BIM approach to the survey and the modelling of an ancient Arab-Norman church…
Single chain magnets based on the oxalate ligand.
2008
The anionic oxalate-bridged bimetallic chain [Co(H2O)2Cr(ox)3]- shows slow relaxation of the magnetization, typical of the so-called single-chain magnets, when crystallized in segregated layers in a mixed salt with the supramolecular cations [C12H24O6K]+ and [(C12H24O6)(FC6H4NH3)]+. This is the first time that such phenomenon has been observed in an oxalate-bridge material. In view of the wide synthetic versatility exhibited by the oxalate ligand, it opens the door for the realization of a complete family of SCM materials whose physical properties might be tuned by the suitable replacement of M3+ ions within the chain. The information extracted from the systematic study of these compounds s…
Towards a Library of “Early‐Late” Ti–Ru Bimetallic Complexes
2005
A series of new titanocene phosphanes 3–6 have been prepared by replacing both chloride atoms at the titanium atom of the complexes [TiCl2(η5-C5H5){η5-C5H4(CH2)2PR2}] (1: R = Ph; 2: R = Cy) by sodium fluoride or sodium benzoate in two-phase systems. Treatment of these new metalloligands with the binuclear complex [(p-cymene)RuCl2]2 affords the targeted titanocene difluoride and titanocene dibenzoate bimetallic ruthenium complexes 8–11. The first chiral Ti–Ru bimetallic complex 12 bearing a binaphthyloxy ligand at the titanium centre has been synthesised in this way. In each series, an X-ray crystal structure has been determined. EVALUATIVE LANGUAGE IN SPOKEN AND SIGNED STORIES TOLD BY A DEAF CHILD WITH A COCHLEAR IMPLANT: WORDS, SIGNS OR PARALINGUISTIC EXPRESSIONS?
2011
In this paper the use and quality of the evaluative language produced by a bilingual child in a story-telling situation is analysed. The subject, an 11-year-old Finnish boy, Jimmy, is bilingual in Finnish sign language (FinSL) and spoken Finnish. He was born deaf but got a cochlear implant at the age of five. The data consist of a spoken and a signed version of “The Frog Story”. The analysis shows that evaluative devices and expressions differ in the spoken and signed stories told by the child. In his Finnish story he uses mostly lexical devices – comments on a character and the character’s actions as well as quoted speech occasionally combined with prosodic features. In his FinSL story he…
Sisäkorvaistutetta käyttävien lasten viittomakielen ja puhutun kielen omaksuminen
2013
Lasten iat vaihtelivat 2;9 vuodesta 7;6 vuoteen tutkimuksen alussa. Taustatietoa saatiin haastattelemalla vanhempia. Kieliaineistoista analysoitiin molempien kielien sanastoa, ilmausten pituutta, nominaalien ja verbaalien taivutusta, artikulaatiota, aikuisen puheen/viittomisen ymmartam…
The effect of high-In content capping layers on low-density bimodal-sized InAs quantum dots
2013
[EN] The structural and morphological features of bimodal-sized InAs/(In) GaAs quantum dots with density in the low 10(9) cm(-2) range were analyzed with transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy and were related to their optical properties, investigated with photoluminescence and time-resolved photoluminescence. We show that only the family of small quantum dots (QDs) is able to emit narrow photoluminescence peaks characteristic of single-QD spectra; while the behavior of large QDs is attributed to large strain fields that may induce defects affecting their optical properties, decreasing the optical intensity and broadening the homogeneous linewidth. Then, by using a rat…
Aminopropyltransferases involved in polyamine biosynthesis localize preferentially in the nucleus of plant cells
2012
Plant aminopropyltransferases consist of a group of enzymes that transfer aminopropyl groups derived from decarboxylated S-adenosyl-methionine (dcAdoMet or dcSAM) to propylamine acceptors to produce polyamines, ubiquitous metabolites with positive charge at physiological pH. Spermidine synthase (SPDS) uses putrescine as amino acceptor to form spermidine, whereas spermine synthase (SPMS) and thermospermine synthase (TSPMS) use spermidine as acceptor to synthesize the isomers spermine and thermospermine respectively. In previous work it was shown that both SPDS1 and SPDS2 can physically interact with SPMS although no data concerning the subcellular localization was reported. Here we study the…
1D antiferromagnetism in spin‐alternating bimetallic chains
1990
The magnetic and thermal properties of the ordered bimetallic chain CoNi(EDTA)⋅6H2O in the very low‐temperature range are reported. The magnetic behavior does not exhibit the characteristic features of 1D ferrimagnets, but a continuous decrease of χmT towards zero at absolute zero. This 1D antiferromagnetic behavior results from an accidental compensation between the moments located at the two sublattices. This behavior, as well as the specific‐heat results, are modeled on the basis of an Ising‐exchange model that considers both alternating spins and Landé factors, and a zero‐field splitting on the Ni site.
