Design and operation of CMOS-compatible electron pumps fabricated with optical lithography

2017

We report CMOS-compatible quantized current sources (electron pumps) fabricated with nanowires (NWs) on 300mm SOI wafers. Unlike other Al, GaAs or Si based metallic or semiconductor pumps, the fabrication does not rely on electron-beam lithography. The structure consists of two gates in series on the nanowire and the only difference with the SOI nanowire process lies in long (40nm) nitride spacers. As a result a single, silicide island gets isolated between the gates and transport is dominated by Coulomb blockade at cryogenic temperatures thanks to the small size and therefore capacitance of this island. Operation and performances comparable to devices fabricated using e-beam lithography is…

Noise and Microwave Properties of Set-Transistors

2002

Electron tunneling through a small tunnel junction with capacitance C 0 is suppressed by the so-called Coulomb blockade if the charging energy E c = e 2/2C∑ is larger than the thermal energy k B T 1. This effect is observed in a single electron tunneling transistor (SETT), which is a nano-meter size three-terminal device in which two leads connect to a small metallic island through two tunnel junctions. The excess charge on the island is regulated by the potential of the capacitively coupled gate electrode. The SETT is a very sensitive electrometer, noise levels of 10−5e/√Hz have been reached.2,3 A similar device, the electron pump, is made by connecting two or more islands in series throug…

Carbon Nanotube Radio-Frequency Single-Electron Transistor

2004

We discuss the theory of the radio-frequency single-electron transistor and the measurements that use multiwalled carbon nanotubes as active elements. Our devices made of plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor-deposition nanotubes yield charge sensitivities of 10-20 μe/ $$\sqrt {Hz}$$ . PACS numbers: 73.23.Hk, 73.63.Fg, 85.35.Gv, 85.35.Kt.

Efficacy in angiotensin receptor blockade: a comparative review of data with olmesartan

2009

A range of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) is available, and analyses suggest there are differences between agents in terms of antihypertensive efficacy and 24-hour blood pressure control. This review assesses the data comparing olmesartan with other ARBs in terms of blood pressure reductions, goal achievement, 24-hour control and speed of onset. Olmesartan seems to have a more favourable efficacy profile relative to standard doses of the ARBs used in comparative studies; results consistent with the high degree of blockade of the angiotensin II type 1 receptor for olmesartan.Taken together, there might be differences between ARBs regarding their blood pressure lowering efficacy, and …

Ramucirumab and its use in gastric cancer treatment

2014

Abstract: The inhibition of the mechanisms of tumor neo-angiogenesis represents a milestone that in the last 10 years has seen the advent of numerous molecules to target action against the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). More recently, new molecules have been developed that inhibit tumor spread by the blockade of specific VEGF receptors (VEGFRs), thereby preventing the binding of a ligand to its receptor and the cascade of proliferative events downstream. Ramucirumab is a fully humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that performs its action by blocking the isoform 2 of the VEGF receptor (VEGFR-2). Numerous preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated its activity in several sol…

NFAT1 deficit and NFAT2 deficit attenuate EAE via different mechanisms

2015

EAE serves as an animal model for multiple sclerosis and is initiated by autoreactive T cells that infiltrate the CNS. Recognition of myelin-associated Ags within the CNS leads to activation of the transcription factor family NFAT. Here, we demonstrate an essential role for NFAT in disease induction, as the combined lack of NFAT1 (NFATc2) and NFAT2 (NFATc1) completely protected mice. Single deficiency of either NFAT1 or NFAT2 ameliorated the course of EAE, and NFAT2 ablation resulted in an obstructed proinflammatory reaction. However, NFAT1 deficit led to an anti-inflammatory response with nonpathogenic Th17 and Th2 cells concurrently secreting IL-17, IL-4, and IL-10. Both IL-4 and IL-10 co…

Toward Single Electron Nanoelectronics Using Self-Assembled DNA Structure

2016

DNA based structures offer an adaptable and robust way to develop customized nanostructures for various purposes in bionanotechnology. One main aim in this field is to develop a DNA nanobreadboard for a controllable attachment of nanoparticles or biomolecules to form specific nanoelectronic devices. Here we conjugate three gold nanoparticles on a defined size TX-tile assembly into a linear pattern to form nanometer scale isolated islands that could be utilized in a room temperature single electron transistor. To demonstrate this, conjugated structures were trapped using dielectrophoresis for current-voltage characterization. After trapping only high resistance behavior was observed. However…

Simulation of electronic states in a nanowire field-effect transistor

2015

Injections of Particulate Steroids for Nerve Root Blockade: Ultrastructural Examination of Complicating Factors

2014

Selective nerve root block by a transforaminal approach with radiological control allows injection of an appropriate corticosteroid next to the nerve root, although it has been associated with major neurological complications in a few cases. There have been several reports in which corticosteroid injections performed at the level of the cervical or lumbar spine have led to severe spinal cord ischemic infarction. These have occurred independently of whether the procedure was performed under radiological control, in which the tip of the needle is identified to prevent vascular spreading of the solution injected.

Single-electron tunneling in metal droplets in the high conductance regime

2001

We present single-electron tunneling results for well-characterized multidroplet systems in the high conductance regime. The work was conducted with tunnel systems comprising ultra-small Ni droplets. The conductance associated with individual droplets was estimated to reach 18--19G{sub K} in systems exhibiting especially high conductance. The P(E) (phase correlation) theory has been successfully applied to the conductance characteristics of these systems. Our results suggest that in the high conductance regime the droplets can be modeled as single, resistively isolated tunnel junctions. Based on an analysis of the single-electron properties of these systems, the average number of droplets N…
